lol Wait, FOX still owns the rights to Family Guy? There should be a law that whoever holds syndication rights to a show gets all new episodes of the series before the original owner. It was their mistake, they should be paying for it, not CN.

I didnt even notice that SGC2C was gone. It was funny when I was a little younger, but just got stupied as I grew up.

On the Family Guy matter, I think CN should have all rights to it. Fox has something good and didnt know what to do with it, thus running it into the grown. So in my eyes, they've lost thier rights to the show.

You're eyese are not those of the law, or of funding. Fox is paying for new episodes, so Fox airs new episodes. CN only has the rights to air specific episodes, those being the reruns. If Fox is smart, however, they'll realize what a goldmine CN can be and loan them all the shows htey ask for.

I was the one who made the statment that I thought you were at least partially referencing by what you said, and I did say it first, so even if I was wrong there's no reason to get pissed off. And I have pissed off a mod on another message board before, but that jerk had it coming.

Back to the matter at hand, FOX has shown NO interest whatsoever in the show since it was cancelled, but CN has not stopped playing the old episodes once since they started playing them, even though there weren't exactly that many. I do believe there might be some statute of limitations for similar situations to this, that if the owner of a property doesn't do anything with it for long enough, any licensees might have more control over the property. If not, there should be.

And I did not say that there were any flaws inherent in copyright law, but 1) this country's copyright law in particular IS very flawed, and 2) while not FLAWED, I don't think it's really NECESSARY.

1) I'm not mad. I was just letting you know that what you care matters not. If you don't like a law, too bad, you still live here, obey.

2) Maybe THAT jerk had it coming, but I havne't done anything jerky on this board since LostChild and if I ever did, Spook, Doug, Tyler, JP, Zechs, Nobu, Bono, FAK, and a slew of others would instantly snap me back in line. You havne't been here for a while, and I liked you when you WERE here when I joined. That's right, you're a memeber that I LIKE.

3) Statues of limiations on copyrighted stuff lasts a long ass time. For example, Disney has owned the character of Mickey Mouse for, I think, 70 years? Not only that, but if I remember hte story correctly, that is the statue of limitations on owning a character before it becomes public property. In order to prevent that, they lobied to change the copyright law to make it 120 years or something. Forget how that story ends.

4) Ownership/rights-to-air-a-show have nothing to do with a networks 'interest'. FOX did not sell the rights to the show, they merely loaned CN the right to air it.

5), and this one is hte BIGGEST one. Ready?

FOX is PAYING for the production of the new episodes. Thus, even if the old episodes weren't theirs, the new are. End.

Don't like it? THen don't watch. Really, that's your only option.

Or wait for them to possibly air on CN.

1) I'll skip this one, because I don't want to start a whole big thing here.

2) I didn't say you had, nor was I even directing that comment at you.

3) First of all, that's a different thing entirely, I was not referring to that particular law. Secondly, Disney itself is the REASON they've held on to that character for so long. They're the ones that have been lobbying to push back that length of time because apparently they like taking from the public domain without ever giving anything back.

4) I'm very aware of that, I never said anything to the contrary.

5) When the news initially broke that the new episodes were under production, it was not specified WHO was paying for them, nor which channel they'd even end up on. I hadn't heard anything since until now, and this is still the only place I've heard any of that from.

However, it stands to reason that since CN and FOX are not owned by the same company, then CN would not be given, nor sold, any show. Thus FOX still owns it. And thus they are paying for new episodes. And thus they will not air anywhere in the universe before they air on FOX.

I'll say this on the copyright thing. If you use the characters (like Disney does) for those 90 years then fuck yes they shouldn't have to dump them into public domain. It's their creation and by damned hell I'll shit on my own face before I create a company and create a well loved repitoire of characters only to have them one day legally abused by some schmuck who wanted to make a giant billboard of something like mickey mouse sucking on a giant cock. It defaces my creation and my success. Damn fucking skippy I'm going to fight the release of my characters.

Now if I wasn't using them at all that would be different. Would the creater of MR. Magoo really care if Magoo became public domain? probably not, because we haven't seen anything of him in a long while.
