Tomorrow, my paycheck from creative gores through and that means boxset time. I went through Hastings looking at the prices of complete boxsets they had and I need your help choosing which one i'm gonna get.

GTO Boxset 2 $79.99
Lain boxset $49.99
Rahxephon $59.99
Orphen $59.99
Sorcerer Hunters $39.99
Steel Agel Karumi $39.99
Black Jack Boxset 2 $37.99
Devil lady boxset $34.99
Dai Guard boxset $34.99
Soul Hunter boxset #34.99
3x3 eyes $49.99
Fruits Basket $91.99

I'll probably get Steel Angel Karumi but I wanted to know if you guys would recommend any of the others.

Well let me be the first to say take Lain off your list. What a lousy anime that was to watch. Slowest pace in any anime i have ever seen. It makes Witch Hunter Robin (which i really enjoyed) feel like a fast paced action adventure.

Why are you shopping at Hastings?

Most of what you're thinking of isn't very good, but GTO is always good.

::On break at Creative::

I shop at hastings because its local, gives great discounts on anime, and I don't have a credit card nor do i want one.

And I love hastings. The first DVD of Gundam Seed is $29.99 at the anime store downtown but Hastings has it for $19.99.

All the boxsets I listed are what I saw on the shelves. I like to buy random complete series because it gives me a chance to see an entire series that may rock, but suck in the beginning eps. This is how I found Blue Seed, Bubble Gum Crisis 2040, and Martian Successor Nadesico, all of which I enjoyed. Raxephon looks good but I'd still like to get a cheaper boxset if possible.

EDIT: and greer, I agree GTO is good, but I have every episode on my computer already, and its only the second boxset. I'd rather get them in order. Plus the rest of the choices I have not seen... well except for 3x3 eyes.
Anyways, keep giving me the recommends. Its very much appreciated.

Is that the ThinPak boxset? 'Cause I don't think you'll find it much cheaper than that, unless...

*checks*...

nope, that's about the best you can get from a B&M retail store. Confused

I like Dai-Guard, and I would probably like Devilman Lady, but they only cost about $20 each at Best Buy, if you can still find them.

And Sorcerer Hunters is an older title I enjoy.

And that's a ridiculous price for Fruits Basket... Razz

ridiculous price as in you found it cheaper, or ridiculous price as in its asking to much for a crappy anime?

And when you said those anime only cost $20, did you actually mean for the thinkpaks or per dvd.

Yes, ~$67 at Best Buy, $65 at Right Stuf. Not that it matters now, since you found the ADV sale.

The "brick" digi-pak "Complete Collection"s were $20, and they later went on sale for $10. The overstock that didn't move at the stores is probably what ADV's selling now.

P.S.- Thanks, CZ. Cool

Well like i said, Hastings is usually cheaper than the local anime retail store so I go there. But I'm not gonna pay near $100 for a 26ep boxset.

Oh yeah, are there any other stores having blowout sales on anime? I'm trying to find some of Bandai's products.

Good to hear CP. I found the first 2 eva dvds used at Hastings the other day so those completed my eva collection (all the original dvds, the director's cuts, and movies). I'm not really interested in getting the platinum ones just because I've already got everything else.

CP, have you seen any of the episodes yet or have you saved yourself to see it all at once?
