It's time for another new series to premiere on Toonami!

This talkback thread is dedicated to Sword Art Online, the first Aniplex dub to premiere on the new block.

This 25-episode series takes place in the year 2022 upon the release of a new online VR game. The players find they cannot log out and the only way to do so is to complete the game by defeating the final boss. Even worse, if they die in the game, they die in real life. The series focuses on Kirito and Asuna, two players determined to win the game, who develop a romantic relationship as the series progresses.

Enjoy the premiere every Saturday at 2.0AM. Only Toonami.

Thoroughly enjoyed this program when it was airing in Japan and want to watch it again to show support for it. And hopefully, the Blurays won't be outrageously priced.

Not sure how they price things. Is it bad?

Well the dub is pretty close to the source. Fairly impressed.

Oh, yeah.

Quote:
Each Blu-ray Box will retail for US$112.98 but will have a store price of US$89.98.

Check out these other great prices from Aniplex:

Quote:

Nisemonogatari(bluray only)- $120
Puella Magi Madoka Magica- $90 or $210 depending upon version bought
Durarara!!- $120 or 150, depending upon version bought
Read or Die-$150

Gurren Lagann = $500 (same for Fate/ZERO)

Valvrave: $550 ($140 for DVD version)

That... is insane. I remember picking up full series dvd box sets in high school for around $25 ~ $30 from Hastings, but this is just nuts. I love these series and want to support the US releases, but I can't justify the cost of a next gen system for a 13~26 episode series. And lets face it, the target audience isn't exactly overflowing with cash either.

Not a huge fan of the series. I've only watched about halfway, but from what I saw, the tone is just...off. These people are trapped in a game watching people die all around them....for real, and they just...don't care. The show is too cute and happy considering the context.

BTOOOM, on the other hand, takes the idea of "trapped in real life game of life or death" and goes much deeper and darker. I really prefer it over Sword Art.

Haven't seen BTOOOM. Sad thing is, I don't watch as much anime as I used to (one or two series rather than six or seven per season).

Was honestly surprised by the last episode. Didn't think they'd allow a loli in underwear to make it on tv, but I guess this is a more mature Toonami. But how they treat the second to last episode is gonna be interesting.

New episodes are being made.

Will Toonami get them? We'll have to wait and see...
