So, if I recall correctly, we've been using .h264 for a while now. Still works great but should we switch it up? Now that we have the capability to receive high resolution video, should we raise all are videos to 1280x720 as a minimum? Also, I've been seeing some groups switching to something called Hi10p. Not sure what that is but any thoughts on it? Thoughts, anyone?

The biggest factor is how much disk space we have available on the server and how quickly Tyler wants to see it gobbled up by HD video.

As for 10-bit H.264: QuickTime won't play it, Windows Media Foundation won't play it, not sure if any mobile devices can play it.
The 8-bit H.264 videos we're using now are already dialed back in order to work with QuickTime. So using some of the more advanced features of H.264, even if they provide a quality boost, doesn't seem doable at the moment. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

Tyler: what kind of uber machine are you using to encode those videos? Threads=16? O_0

Well, after my las post, I took the time to read up on 10bit. Seems to be fairly cutting edge for many groups considering all the different guides I found for getting MPC configured to work with it properly. Although, its good to know that 'banding' is the proper term for that visual effect I've been noticing.

Regarding Tyler and his machine, I'd expect no less from him after all these years. Quick question though, just how much disk space do we have to work with here? I can't imagine that ASF has required that much over the years.

My current setup (fairly new) is AT&T Uverse with the HD package and a Blackmagic Intensity Pro PCI Express card in my 5-year-old 8-core Mac Pro that I got for Techspansion work.
It's capable of 1080p HDMI capture, but I currently have it doing 720p Component for a variety of reasons.

I forgot that my x264 encode settings show up in the files...
VisualHub was programmed to do threads=(cores * 2). This made sense when single and dual-cores were the norm...

All Toonami captures on Saturday will be 720p H.264 run through VisualHub's High quality AppleTV setting, forced to 29.97fps.

To be perfectly honest, there's only 4GB of space left on the server as-is. I've been doing some cleaning and still have a lot more to do. I really don't want to upgrade since that's a lot of work, and Zogg's not around to make it just magically happen.

For compatibility's sake, Main Profile 720p is as high as I'm willing to go. All recent Android/iOS/Xbox360/PS3/everything plays it.
Other show intros I've acquired in 1080p will be downscaled to Main Profile 720p for compatibility and space reasons.
