Anime = cartoon made in Japan.

Cartoon = cartoon.

To say that you want to make Anime is to shut out all the other great, gloriously done animation around the world. Really, you people should have made an effort to see The Animation Show when it was in theaters (I madea whole thread on it over in Animation Discussion. Yet no one saw it except me.) It had some UBER amazing animated shorts, all done by regular average Joes like you and me. Only, with a lot more talent . . . .

One of the main problems I have with anime fans is that they are of hte opinion that American animation sucks. And that EVERYTHING FROM JAPAN is Uber. These two are not the case. EVERYONE makes shit. And EVERYONE makes good stuff. Talent knows no national border.

So, to say that you only want to make anime is to be ignorant to whole worlds of animation, and ignorant to the way that animation works in general.

Hey I enjoy American animation to death.

The Ducktales news was the highlight of my hangover today.

But if I have a choice I'll make an anime.

Because you get to be in Japan.

There's no point to this.

Oh yeah...

Dragonball is tEh best.

Z is good until the end of Frieza then it gets meh then ick then ugh. DB rocks all the way through.

I think what Vegeta meant by "Making an anime" is creating an animated show in the Japanese style. Nothing more.

The Japanese have a style of animation and storytelling that is significantly different than Western. If there was no real difference then "Anime" wouldn't have it's own section in the entertainment industry or in your local video store.

So it always funnels down to Anime = Japanese Animation, plain and simple right?. Nope.

Anime is supposed to be "japanese animation", but the one problem with defining anime is when people try to base it on content. One false description is "adult animation" or "action animation", but here's a surprise, the majority of animation created in both Japan and the US are targeted to kids under 14 and is not always action-packed. Even so, the majority of anime marketed in the US is for adults. The video stores make this confusing because they will put Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh in the Family section, but put SuperGALS and Case Closed in the Anime section. Not only that but on occasion stores deem american made shows to be worthy of the title, "Anime" like MegasXLR or even movies like Heavy Metal. Confusing, but unfortunately Jimmy the stock boy doesn't care.

So in the end, Anime is a word defined by the context used in. Someone else put it better.

"Anime are Cartoons but Cartoons aren't Anime"

Another Krillin moment:

When King Kai is stumped, Krillin figures out to use Nappa's ship.

Who's your daddy?

I got into DBZ about three or four years ago when my kids told me about it. I viewed from the middle of the Frieza saga right when Vegeta dies and Goku turns super saiyan for the first time. I then tries to watch everything prior by borrowing from people, the library, and then renting. I have bought every movie on DVD, and actually have quite a bit of Dragonball. However, the Namek Saga and the Captain Ginyu saga always slipped my grasp. This is what I have been waiting for. Last night airing Bulma in a midriff and panties surprised me. I am looking forward to the rest of the uncut episodes, because I have never seen them before. I am so stoked that CN is airing them.

Speaking of Krillen. He has always been bad ass in my mind, but he knows his limitations and is hesitant before a battle starts, but once it kicks into gear has no fear and a pretty good bag of tricks. If Vegeta had not told Nappa to "not touch" his destructo disk, Nappa would have been wasted by him. Krillen would have also killed Vegeta if it wasn't for Goku. Krillen can take a beating and keep on ticking. He just never gets to finish anyone off.

Remember that krillin was a monk and monks have those spots on their heads.

The spots are cigarette burns, given to him by the masters of the monk temple that he trained at before meeting Goku and Master Roshi.

You must remember, that Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, and Trunks all have major transformations and training to increase their levels to incredible heights. For Krillin to survive that "one punch" from the super villian and come back for more, just shows how powerful he is.

Krillin could not beat Frieza, but I think we all can agree that Perfect Cell and Majin Buu would kill Frieza in 2 seconds. Because Krillin is human, he can't keep up. Yamcha and Tien also concede that they will never come close to the Saiyans. Even Piccolo in the Majin Buu saga knows thae he can't touch Goku and Vageta anymore.
