...I meant not on this forum, it's safe to read back Razz no spoilers.

Anyway, I finished the first chapter of my fic, I guess I'd say please be 13+or ever 14+ to read this as it...may get a little unsuitable for younger people near the end.

Um..I tried to beta-read but someone plllleeeaaasseee check it along the way. I'll post what I posted earlier again to make it coherant. You don't have to read it Laughing

* * *

Well, this is my first Teen Titans fiction so you'll have to forgive plot holes and the like because it's such a complicated Universe to fit into anyway with Batman, Justice League etc. so please bare with me as I try to write a story to the best of my potential! I think this story maybe slightly AU ^^;; please forgive me!

I have heard about the premiere episode plotline of season two of Teen Titans but I hope this isn't anything like it ^^ if it's all wrong then...I proclaim this story AU! Yay!

Anyway, basic elements: 5 years after the show, 3 out of 5 are dead, 1 has gone mad and Starfire, now adapted to the realms of Earth but gone stone-like and almost mad from grief, hunts the one she believes responsible for the tragedy. Calling on unlikely allies to help in her search, revenge is constantly on her mind along with one word: Blackfire.

Disclaimer: I don't own Teen Titans or any of the D/C characters!

Enjoy!

* * *

It was raining.

Starfire pulled her overcoat around her more forcibly in the Gotham storm and carried on trudging through the dark streets. Midnight sent waves of fear through any respectable citizen of the godforsaken place, but underneath it all Starfire had found a welcoming silence that allowed her to meditate for a while before the next day began.

In the distance she heard gunshots and smiled grimly; the wrong part of town always did get jumpy at this time of night.

No doubt the big Bat would be along to tidy up.

Starfire stopped for a moment, blinking, and looked up into the air at the black clouds rolling above her, she hadn't even seen Batman. Ever. Not once. Not even when...it happened.

Snorting quietly she continued on her mission, skipping over a puddle wearily and wondering why she didn't just fly to the damn place.

A scream.

Stopping dead, Starfire looked around her. Screams always set her on edge, but she shook off her nerves and continued walking. It wasn't far to the place now and if she was lucky she wouldn't have any trouble.

"Hold it right there lady"

Starfire growled, maybe trouble just liked her.

Turning around very slowly she made a big show of putting up her hands and looking fearful, while assessing the situation.

Her assailant, unsurprisingly, was pointing a handgun and wearing a mask. Inwardly, Starfire rolled her eyes. Nothing new, even after all these years. Even though she was still relevantly new to Earth, this 'disguise' was something she'd encountered dozens of times.

"Give me all your stuff" spat the man "And you might not get hurt"

Starfire gazed at him. He was what she expected as the normal villain type: around 5,6", black mask, long trench coat. No, nothing ever changed. She didn't actually have anything valuable on her. That never changed either.

"I'm sorry" she said slowly "I did not realise I had anything that you would want"

Inwardly cursing her childish voice, Starfire continued, "Please let me go on my way, I have somewhere to be and I do not want to hurt you"

She began to walk slowly in the way she'd been going when the barrel of the gun pressed into the small of her back.

"Where're you going then?" the creep whispered, his breath smelling like old cigarettes

Bringing her fist up and over her left shoulder, she hit the thug in the nose, instantly breaking it. He stumbled back with a yell, clutching his face and stumbling, dropping the gun in the process.

"I am afraid it is none of your business" Starfire said, wrinkling her nose in disgust at the scene "Please excuse me"

She pulled some wet red locks back off her shoulders and pulled the coat around her again, trying in vain to keep a small part at least of her dry. She stared at the 'thief' for a moment longer and then carried on.

Turning the corner on to the next block, she left his wailing behind and went on to the following street, as quiet as the grave. Hopefully she'd be able to get some peace and some time to compose herself

"Please let me go on my way" she mimicked herself crossly, hating her voice and every word it spoke, the way it betrayed her still childlike body and age, the fact five years had done nothing to change her outside appearance even if she felt so different inside "I must sound like a fool" she muttered

Catching sight of her reflection in a nearby window she stopped and checked it cautiously.

"How can it be that after all that has happened I still look the same?" she asked out loud to her reflection "Surely my appearance must reflect my inward emotion? It must and yet I look exactly the same" Starfire frowned "I come from a far away place" she told her reflection "That must be it, musn't it?"

Starfire, realising she wasn't going to get an answer, carried on. There was only another block to go, and she could hear the place calling her, it's vile aura filling the surrounding area like a bad smell.

Arkham Asylum.

How she hated it. Just the name made her toes curl and her spine tingle. How could they have put him in a place like this?

Because there was nowhere else.

Reaching the curb at the end of the street and dodging a pile of wet newspapers she stared up at her nemesis. The building loomed as if was about to fall on top of her, the barred windows dark and gloomy, a single lamp in the porch.

They didn't go for the friendly asylum look in Gotham City.

Running lightly across the street, she got up the few steps into the porch and shook herself off, taking a moment to wring her hair to rid it of the rainwater. The coat she was wearing over her suit was soaked, yet she felt like it was her security blanket at this place, she wore it every time she came. That was one the reasons they remembered her, their night visitor.

She'd worked out a rhythm with the place. Once, long ago she'd had a 'word' with the foreman and now she could visit at anytime.

"I hope you are expecting me" she muttered as she pushed half of the double doors open in front of her, wincing at the squeak in the hinge as she did so.

Immediately bright, sterile light hit her face and she was forced to blink suddenly and hold up her hand. The light hurting her eyes for a moment or two as she got used to it.

When she could see again she looked around the familiar hallway for the millionth time and sighed. The same signs, the same tiles, the same walls, the same posters. It was all familiarly faded, as if the darkness outside had soaked into the building itself.

Letting the last droplets of water from her coat fall on the floor, Starfire began to walk up the very long hallway to the front desk, trying to ignore the occasional bouts of madly echoing laughter and yells that came from deep within the bowels of the building.

The black and white tiles did nothing to hide her footsteps, and these days she hated to draw attention to herself, the resonating 'click' bouncing off walls and setting her on edge.

Drawing up to the front desk she placed her hands on the cool plastic and smiled slightly at the nurse behind the barrier.

It was same night duty nurse she'd met time and time again in these same positions. The largish woman was warm in countenance and Starfire seemed to feel that she radiated a type of heat in to the chilled and sterile surroundings of the waiting room. Possibly the only nice thing about the Asylum: the woman was always smiling.

At least one person in the place was welcoming.

Starfire smiled a little more warmly at the nurse, whose name tag on her front read 'Angela', and said "I would like to see patient 2367 please, would that be possible?"

The Angela looked closely at Starfire, whose hair let one solitary drip onto a nearby file and then said, "Well look whose back. It must be nice for that young man to get a visitor like you, even if you do have sporadic visits. Well you are a type of regular so I'm sure it'll be fine, it always is for you, isn't it? Well the doctor is on his break right now but there are plenty of nurses around if you need help with anything" she brought out a block of forms "Now I just need you to sign some of these again, it's been a while since your last visit you know..."

Starfire looked at the block of paper and began to check through them, signed them, and handed them back. Just legalities, there was so much space between her visits sometimes that she guessed that her first forms had run out and they needed to check her information again.

The information was false, but still.

"Thank you" the nurse replied, "Would you be able to hold on for a minute while the attendant behind the buzz door comes back from the bathroom?"

Starfire nodded. Angela turned her back to file the papers in her hands and left Starfire to wait, looking around the room for at least one new thing but finding nothing out of the ordinary.

A sharp buzz from the 'out' door of the internal hallways of the building informed her someone had just come out of the inner Asylum. Starfire assumed it was the nurse until a large block of man came and leaned on the desk next to her. The strength of his arms making her feel the dip of the desk as it shifted under him.

Dressed in a black suit with a blank overcoat topped off with a grey hat, he looked more like the gangsters she has run in with on the streets of the city than another visitor. Who else visited apart from her in the middle of a night?

No one normal. Starfire kept herself from snorting out loud at this thought.

"Excuse me" he said to Angela behind the desk to disturb her out of her filing, his voice a deep rumble, "I'm about to leave, my car's outside"

Starfire frowned, looking at her hands; she hadn't heard a car and there'd been no sign of anything moving out on the streets. She looked at the mans hands on the top of the desk from where she was looking down at her own, they were large and calloused from something, maybe he was a builder or did fencing or something.

He didn't seem like the fencing type. And he didn't seem like a builder either.

"Thanks for your hospitality" he continued in the same smooth low tone and then turned, setting off down the black and white tiled hallway, his steps muffled and subdued. Starfire frowned, how come his hadn't sounded as hers had when he looked at least twice as heavy?

"Have a nice night Mr. Wayne" Angela called politely after him "It's always nice to get night time visits"

Starfire froze "Wayne? Was that Mr. Bruce Wayne of Wayne Enterprises?" she asked the nurse incredulously as the silhouette of Bruce Wayne disappeared into the night

Angela looked at her, with a polite look that seemed to read as 'you should be in here yourself dear'. The nurse shook the look away and said, "I assumed you knew each other"

Starfire blinked "Why would you think that?"

The nurse smiled sympathetically, a frown creasing her forehead, and said, "Well, you're both seeing the same patient"

Starfire kept her jaw from dropping with amazing self-restraint, she looked at the place where he had been standing and shook her head in disbelief. Why would he come and see...? The nurse must have made a mistake.

The nurse shuffled paper and looked over at the glass door leading to the "Well, there you are, I guess you can go in now" in a tone that seemed to say 'I'm a little busy please go'.

Starfire obliged a she heard the buzz on the inside on the glass door that meant she could go through. She nodded to Angela and made her way to the door, pushed it, and stepped into the dark corridors past the male warden/nurse who was going to escort her. She already knew the way but let him keep a pace behind even so.

They walked in silence, chilling sounds rippling through the air from other areas of the building. However, it seemed as if all the patients where they were in the building were asleep. Or couldn't speak at all.

Reaching a heavy door deep inside the belly of the asylum, next to a hundred other doors the exact same size and colour, she stopped with the warden and peered through the little glass window into the room.

There he was, curled up into the corner of the cushioned wall under the harsh glow of a single light bulb. In the same position as she always saw him.

"Thank you" she told the man, waiting for her to say something "I will be alright, and only a short while, could you come back in 10 minutes?"

The nurse hesitated and then said, "10 minutes on the dot, and just because I know you're not about to make trouble" and he walked slowly away, whistling a very haunting song that hung in the air for a few moments after he disappeared around a corner.

Starfire breathed, and gripped her hands to stop them from shaking.

Reaching up to press the button on the intercom next to the door she whispered slowly "Robin?"

The being inside the room was hardly recognisable as human anymore, he resembled a lost animal, completely broken. Without his mask or uniform, and only clad in the hospital pyjamas, he curled up against the cushioned wall. His lifeless eyes staring at his hands which were the only movement she could see, the fingers of one hand working fast to undo invisible ties on the other that had long since gone.

Robin didn't reply, she didn't think he ever would, she wondered if he even recognised his own name. But sometimes it helped her to talk about things, and she hoped it helped him too.

"I am getting closer Robin..." she whispered, finger on the button still, "I know I am, but there is still much to do. She wants me to find her but the clues she leaves me are leading me nowhere"

No reply, not even a change to indicate he was listening. His skin was so pale, the veins were blue beneath grey bags and translucent skin, his bones sticking out angularly.

"I really need you to help me" Starfire muttered "Tell me what to do, tell me how I can work it all out..." she blinked "Please"

Nothing. He made no response, his black hair spilling out in all directions.

Starfire sniffed and put her hand on the glass "Robin I..." she couldn't help a stray tear that slid down her cheek "I am losing them. They are fading and I cannot stop it, not now I have begun" a sob shook her frame "I have lost too much to come back. I did not want to fly here and now I think I could not if I wanted to"

She looked at her hand and frowned, a green orb began to pulsate in her palm. Sobbing, she watched it fade and break-up.

"I have to conserve my energy for my fight," she whispered, this time not into the intercom

Leaning on the door and pressing the button again she carried on into the intercom "Why did Bruce Wayne come to see you? Why can I not figure things out like you? Why can my head not work in the same way!" punching the door lightly she said, "I thought we were a team and yet you will help me no longer, will you?"

Nothing. She wanted to run into the cell and embrace him, to see if he would respond after such a long time, to see if he would not wake from his insanity to help her in her quest. But no, this would never happen.

And then, something strange caught her eye in the cell and she blinked. Wiping her eyes Starfire looked into the room on her toes to get a better look at the strange invader.

Robin was clutching something in this right hand. What was it? She craned her neck to see it better.

A mask.

Starfire stumbled back from the door and caught her breath "Why...what...how?" she gasped

Running back to the door she grasped the handle and twisted it firmly, nothing. Knocking on the door she began to call "Robin! Robin!" trying to see if he had been all along pretending not to notice her, and had in all actuality still been alright, moving about and fighting crime in the night.

He didn't respond.

Starfire, exhausted, collapsed on the floor and cried. There was no one left for her now, that small piece of unbelievable hope was extinguished as soon as it was lighted.

She whispered quietly "Why did you have to leave me alone you guys?" she sniffed and then balled her fists and whispered, "I have to make her pay for it"

Standing up, Starfire composed herself and began to stride down the corridor. She was nearing the end of her search, and she wasn't going to miss out on her chance. Revenge was apparently sweet, it was her opportunity to find out.

She didn't expect it to make her feel better though. Starfire had more or less given up on feeling better.

She met the nurse on his way back to her and gave him a story of 'what's the point in visiting if they don't know your there?' and listened to his opinions on unresponsive patients as she was escorted to the door. He didn't comment on her puffy eyes and she was glad.

Buzzed out, she waved to the nurse and swept down the corridor and back into the early hours of the morning.

It wasn't raining anymore and cool air was chill on her wet clothes and hair, the sun turning the sky a light blue in the east over the skyscrapers beyond the smaller buildings in this area. Starfire looked up at the sky and sighed.

Another visit over. Another visit with nothing. He was never going to be cured...and why would she expect him to? For her? No one would want her after she was finished with her duty...she was already bloodstained.

Even if it was underworld blood, it would never come clean.

Stepping down off the curb of the pavement and crossing the street, she was confronted for the second time as she passed out of the light of a lamppost that was beginning to flicker off.

Several men stepped out of an alleyway and quickly got on all her sides. They looked like friends of the thug from earlier from their garb. And the fact her old friend was standing on the sidelines clutching his nose was a dead giveaway.

There were ten of them. Each clutching a weapon of some sorts; bar, chain, gun. It didn't matter to her. All of them were in masks, that didn't matter to her either.

She sighed.

"What is it that you want?" she asked loudly

The men looked at each other, chuckling and one lolled forward easily and said "We heard you hurt our buddy over there" he motioned to her earlier attacker and continued "We don't like people hurting our boys, especially a little girl like you"

Murmurs of agreement from the others.

"So we're here to even things out" the thug said "An eye for an eye so to speak"

Starfire looked at him gravely "I do not want to hurt you"

They rumbled with laughter.

"Well" said the leader "That's not going to happen, you can be sure of that"

This seemed to be the signal as, with a loud roar, the gang leapt on her.

Not realising the amount of weight would suddenly restrain her, Starfire was unprepared for the chain that struck her stomach and knocked the wind from her. Stumbling and trying to catch her breath someone caught hold on her and punched her across the face roughly. She felt a tooth come loose.

This in turn pushed her into two that instantly had her pressed down with stars rushed across her vision while they began to kick her ribs.

"Justice, fire of justice, right of justice" Starfire gasped out through clenched teeth

A momentary flash of green from her palms struck out at her two assailants at that moment and thrust them back roughly into the walls right near them, their heads hitting violently against the stone. Seeing green for a moment Starfire shook her head and lost it; she couldn't afford to use it on such a petty fight. The green disappeared and she was left looking up into the faces of her attackers; their breath of alcohol and cigarettes suffocating her.

She hurt, and it was a relatively new sensation...no one had hurt her for so long. She usually did the hurting.

Someone kicked out at her, and, instantly realising her position Starfire grabbed his leg and tossed him roughly into the wall her powers had a second ago knocked the other two into.

Three out.

Pushing herself up from the ground, spitting a mouthful of blood and saliva onto the concrete below. She took the brunt of someone's ram and pulled them around into her 'embrace', grabbing his neck.

She broke it.

He fell, limp to the ground below her. His friends staring at her for a moment.

"You're a monster" one breathed before lunging at her with an iron bar

Dodging the bar Starfire grabbed him by the wrists and pushed him into another and in turn they fell to the ground, winded.

Four out the remaining five ran forward and tackled her again, the weight once more working against her small frame to smash her into the ground. Stars burst past her vision and grey edged her sight.

A crowd of fists battered her down further into the pavement. She heard concrete crack below her.

Someone began to cop a feel of her breasts in the pain that followed their attack. Starfire let out an involuntary scream as this on top of the pain caused her to sound out.

They were touching her.

Pushing up with all her might against the crowd she managed to free a space where she could stand quickly, but someone grabbed her wrists and stopped her from moving any faster.

That was when the gun went off.

She had been so preoccupied with the fight and the assault going on that she had forgotten the remaining man. The leader.

She looked at him, not realising just what had happened, and then down at her trench coat where a hole was straight through her stomach and a small deep scarlet patch was beginning to form.

So that was it.

She felt her knees collapse and she fell back down into the rabble below, where the hands, no longer able to be prevented from their assault began. They didn't care if they got bloody, they just wanted pay back.

Just like her.

She was going to die, the blood that seemed to be covering the men above her was from hers.

The men obviously didn't have the heart to do the whole dirty deal, they weren't men who raped, they just felt her up to the most humiliating level and left her to die. Not even bothering to steal her valuables as was how the whole thing had started anyway.

Starfire looked up in to he cloudy sky as she had done earlier, amazed her quest for revenge had been brought down by one street gang.

How could she be done by that? She had been beaten, assaulted and now she was going to see death once more.

But she wasn't having the same fate as her team until she took their killer out with her.

Forcing her energy into her hands, Starfire rolled over, amazed at the amount of red that covered the pavement and her coat, how could one person hold that much? It was strange, the pavement felt warm beneath her fingers.

It was a good thing she wasn't from Earth, no normal earthling would be able to move this much after so much blood loss and injury.

The edges of her vision were blackening from the earlier grey and she knew that she had to move before she passed out.

Starfire forced herself up on her elbows and knees and crawled forward a few inches. She had to move. She couldn't stay here.

A footstep, a heavy and familiar footstep. Someone was there. She didn't care, she began to move again, aware that now she was crying quietly but determinedly, tears dripping and mixing with the blood below.

"Don't move" a heavy voice commanded, gruff, meaning to be obeyed

She only obeyed one person, and he could give no more orders.

"Move" she gritted her teeth, clutching a sob "Move..."

"I said stop" it said more forcefully and they grabbed her shoulder forcefully

Terrified they had come back to finish off their payback with an actual rape, Starfire let off another blast of energy, green flashing backwards and tossing the assailant aside.

Crawling forward an inch, she collapsed, the last burst of power too much.

She stared at the pavement beneath and gasped.

This was it.

At least she had seen Robin one last time.

Before the world went black she felt herself pulled over, staring up into the rapidly blueing sky she saw a black shadow.

But it didn't matter.

She slipped into darkness.

Damn dill, I thought you liked Starfire... Wink
Not bad overall, good characterization touches on your bit players, and you've got a excellent grasp of Gotham City's nighttime atmosphere.

P.S. Cartoon Network has released Season 2 synposes. Be warned, there are spoilers involved, so no whining allowed. Wink

Embarassed thanks

I DO like Starfire but she needs a bit more angst and less happy-go-lucky under her belt *chuckle*

Anything I can do to make it better?

Too bad I won't get season 2 for a year or so -__-

Um yeah. Mature is to light a word for this.
They just felt her up to the most humiliating level and left her to die.
Um whats the most humiliating, oh right clothes all ripped off, and various stuff shoved in.
Don't call it the most humiliating unless it really is the most. So when she asks Batman why she is where she is have him tell her what happened even though she knows.

felt her up and left her to die, doesn't sound "violent" enough. something like

Though they didn't rape her, it wasn't far off. Her clothes ripped off, they nearly had their way with her but this was not about rape. They were not men who raped. She was abused, humiliated, on the brink of death.

Dunno somethingmore like that.

"Aftershock, Part 1" (#25)
A long lost friend of the Titans returns with a vengenance -- and Slade orders Overload, Cinderblock and Plasmus to launch a series of sinister strikes all over the city. Can our heroes stop three monsters, Slade, and their newest enemy? Or will the Teen Titans finally be destroyed?

Long Lost friend? Could it be Batman? From the books, who else could it be? All I can think of right now is the Bat-Crew.

Hey, that's good, thanks!

I think this is the most...I don't know...mature? adult?... thing I've written ever...

Andromaton thanks for your suggestions, I've edited it a little like yours and put:

The men obviously didn't have the heart to do the whole dirty deal. They didn't rape her, no, but it wasn't so far off. They weren't men who raped however far it went. It was payback.

I feel the same way about Ross' work, myself.
BTW, that's not a Timm-style drawing. Ross is drawing in the style of Kurt Schaffenberger's "SuperFriends" comic.

I know it's not TImm styled, what I meant was that Ross has a fascination with animation and its acompanying style.

And if I'd bothered to read the artist credits in the drawing, I'd have seen it isn't Schaffenberger-style, either. It's modeled after Alex Toth's Superfriends design... Embarassed
<-- idiot.

I have an idea. And it stems from the episode title.
And that's ALL I'm going to say. *may have said too much already*
