I've seen the entire run of CB a couple of times and just saw balled of fallen angels last night and it got me wondering again about Spike's past.

From what i understand, he was some kind of high ranking man in the Red Dragon sindicate. Spike at some point took Vicious under his wing and trained/brought him up. After a bad hit operation, he was badly wounded and Julia found him and brought him back to good health. Spike fell in love with her and promised to leave the sindicate and go away with her. Vicious found out about this and felt betrayed. He blackmailed Julia and told her if she ever saw Spike again, he'd kill(her/Spike/both of them?) When Spike went to meet Julia, she wasn't there and he's been searching for her ever since.

This is what ive put together from seeing it in AS. I know it probably explains it more in the unedited versions(which i plan to get at some point). If you know different tell me, becuse I really want to have a good understanding of this.

You've pretty much got it. From what I remember Julia was Vicious's lover, but then she fell in love with Spike. So not only is Vicious pissed off because Spike deserted the syndicate, Spike also stole his lover. No wonder Spike and Vicious hate each other so much.

Spike decided to leave the syndicate and take Julia with him. However, you can't just quit the syndicate because you know too much and they don't want you spilling all their dirty secrets. The only way to get out is death. This is why Spike says he already died once.

Nah, they took out almost nothing in terms of plot from the editing. Excess Blood, a few swears here and there but that's it. CN made sure none of the story was lost on the cuts.

No. CN didn't cut anything out of Cowboy Bebop plot-wise. The only edits they made were for language (the "S" word and "God"), some-but-not-all blood, nudity, and bullets to the head (I don't understand why, since they shot up all other body parts).
