Lets create a do it yourself thread. I have been thinking about this one for days and haven't been able to think of how I wanted to say it.

Wensday night I watched "New Fist of the Northstar". Fist of the Northstar was one of the first animes that this forum listed for me to watch with Ninja scroll to understand what Anime was.

Northstar introduced a new style of animation, a lot of superpowered humans, and a real sense of ultra-violence.

The New Fist looks like it was made by the same studio the day after they finished the first one. Then some group came along 20 years later and added some bad CG to it to make it look new. Think of Voltron 3D vs Voltron and you have a general idea.

It used the good old heads and bodies exploding for no other use then to just have something people would want to see. The plots are bad, the voice acting of the bit parts is bad, the animation is nothing special. Overall nothing i would recommend.

Then theres the newer remake of Vampire Hunter D. D being another anime that helped me enjoy japanese animation. The new one, now a couple years old, gives it a whole Aeon Flux feel but is overall not a bad movie to watch. It doesnt feel like a remake of the orignal more a retelling and rethinking of it.

I'm just hoping this isnt a trend for a cheap way to make a buck (or 1 trillion yen by current trade standards). Will we see the New Ninja Scroll's?

Actually we have already seen that Robotech is being remade as well as good old Voltron itself. Where will this end and is there a chance that any of it will be watchable?

So since this post really has no meaning or fluff. Feel free to push it in whatever direction you see fit.

Does the TV show count? Wink

I think Japan can be as creatively bankrupt as Hollywood most of the time.

I assume everyone's seen the front-page news... but for a quick link to Powerpuff Girls Z, go here. Laughing

P.S.- There's a video link to this version's transformation sequence (ala Sailor Moon, et al) on the page as well.

The new PPG looks a lot better than the original one. May the current one die a horrible, horrible death. But that's just my "American cartoon quality has crashed and burned since the end of 90s" opinion talking.

How is the 2nd Vampire Hunter D a remake of the 1st Vampire Hunter D movie? I mean sure they have a few things in common, but that does not make it a remake or retelling....

What the hell are you talking about? The original was great. This one kills everything about it. The professor is not related to them. They are even sisters. They transform like Sailor Moon. And even worse, The Mayor has hair on his head! God, it's terrible to steal one show, claim it as your own, and change it up. Well, at least McCracken isn't involved with it other than characters (I hope).

More like the original Mobile Suit Gundam, from which 08th MS Team was a later spin-off.

Yeah its based mostly on the original Mobile Suit Gundam. Gundam Seed Destiny, however, seems to be following the lines of Zeta. The rule of thumb for the Seed series is that its a retelling of the Universal Century timeline for new fans.

Destiny borrows certain elements from Zeta, like Destroy and Athrun's brief career as Alex, but it's completely different from Zeta otherwise.

BTW to answer whats the difference between the two Vampire Hunter D's. Well im going to have to rewatch them.

But there plots are completly different. But the biggest difference is the look. The new one has the Aeon Flux look to it.
