I admit it, I am out of the loop. I understand most smileys, a good number of abbreviations, but I am lost on some phrases or words. Hopefully (to save my ego) I am not alone. Here is a place to ask WTF does that mean. Maybe somebody will actually help with a translation.

noob is my worst language (noob=newbie=new poster), and I am not good with transplanted Japanese either

teh s uck=?

otaku=?

teh s uck...well basically some idiot over at the adultswim.com message boards put up a message that basically read "cus anime is teh s uck", and now it has been immortalized forever in the halls of stupidity.

otaku is easy, that is a general reference to someone who likes anime a whole bunch. Although I don't know the exact meaning, i'm sure someone else will be able to clear up my mistakes.

Quote:
Otaku (noun, Japanese)

Otaku is the honorific word of Taku (home).

Otaku is extremely negative in meaning as it is used to refer to someone who stays at home all the time and doesn't have a life (no social life, no love life, etc)

Usually an otaku person has nothing better to do with their life so they pass the time by watching anime, playing videogames, surfing the internet (otaku is also used to refer to a nerd/hacker/programmer).

In the Western culture, people confuse otaku to be something positive like "Guru". If you think about it, it's not really good to be called a guru if it means you are a total loser who can't socialize with other people except through the Internet.

Other Japanese words which have been confused by Westerners also include but not limited to: Anime, Manga, etc

otaku no jinsei ha yabai na! (it sucks to live the life of an otaku!)

...anything else you needed to know?

I like the fact that adult swim made a shirt out of it.

So otaku can be good or bad, depending on your viewpoint (just as some are proud to be nerds) Thanks, y'all!

I'm still in the dark about what the other actually means

it's basicly an inside joke.

as for the otaku it's only a good thing to yourself and other otakus. everyone else sees you more as someone who needs their asses kicked.
