But Zechs, there are some of us who wouldn't mind having 20 minutes of talk and 3 minutes of action. I for one, loved the series.

well, i can breathe a sigh of relief knowing my man michael survived to the end (i had a bad feeling they'd off him)...the ending was somewhat of a letdown in that it didn't feel like they "closed" much, but hopefully a second watch-through will uncover some of the stuff that eluded me through the first run...

overall, i thought the series did a good job in creating a unique atmosphere, and i really liked the characters, but i suppose i overhyped this series a bit personally, so i'm left slightly unsatisfied with how it all turned out...still, i plan to watch it at least one more time before making a final decision on the series...

This is the thing about anime that is so unusual when compared to say American story telling. We're used to 'and the world was a better place as they lived happily ever after' instead of 'and then I went back to work the next day not ever knowing what happened to that weird guy with the spiky hair.'

I didn't like that the STNJ just kept on hunting witches after getting to know Robin. Don't they have any doubts? Do they still think all witches are evil? The hunters are all witches or seeds (since they can use the orbo) but nobody questions what they do.

Robin and Amon are probably dead, but it doesn't matter because in the end Robin didn't have a purpose. All that knowledge and power gained, but no idea what to do with it.

I liked watching the series, but I think they could have gone further in character development. Amon is the one we learn the most about, really.

A typical "leaves you hanging" ending.
I'm used to those by now, so I'm not mad.

Not all American story telling has a happy ending. Do you read anything from Edgar Allen Poe, or watch any horror or suspense (or, in some cases, action) movies?

And another thing: Most people don't use happy endings because, quite frankly, THEY'RE STUPID. What are you expecting? A parade with angels and flying hamsters? Yech! That'll pretty much dumb it down to a Disney-esque production. This is Adult Swim. We're not kids anymore where everything comes out jolly in the end. A cliffhanger ending is what to expect from a dark, mature series.

"Cliffhangers" for a last episode SUCK.(Berserk)

Now, an open ending (which is probably what you meant in the first place) where there may still be some questions left in the viewer's mind afterwards are tolerable.
And sometimes lead into a follow-up series in the future. (Big O)

But they're not my preference.

When did Poe write? Over 100 years ago. Shakespeare loved guts, gore, and betrayal. They gave the audience what they wanted. I'm thinking of more modern storytelling, specifically mass media, more specifically television cartoons. Whereas hangings used to be a public spectacle worth packing a picnic lunch for; now society is so concerned about 'sheltering' us from harmful influences it censors art forms into tapioca pudding.

I'm not saying I like it, just that it is present, especially when compared to the more realistic (used loosely) open endings more often seen in teen & adult anime.

I prefer anime scripted for the Japanese market (vs comissioned for US consumption and filtered by soccer moms). I'm used to open endings (ever read O. Henry?). But I expected the events in Witchhunter Robin to change the characters. Isn't that one of the goals of storytelling anywhere?

I hope this makes my meaning clearer.

Er... Yeah. That was what I meant. My bad.
