I could care less about the tech specs of these new fangled consoles. Good games are what drive a console's sales. In fact, the Xbox 360 launch seems like a simple upgrade from the Xbox launch in 2001. There will be a racing game(Project Gotham Racing/Project Gotham Racing 3), a FPS(Halo/Perfect Dark Zero), and a bunch of rehashed crap(Night Caster, Fusion Frenzy, Madden Whatever/Kameo, Madden Whatever 2, etc...). Elder Scrolls: Oblivion will be the standout 360 title. DOA 4, Full Auto(if it comes out in time), and Ridge Racer will be the wild cards. The 360 launch looks promising, but not promising enough to waste $500.00 on(especially if you consider that the original Xbox had a price drop a mere 6 months or so after it launced). As for the PS3, we'll have to wait and see. I've got my money on Nintendo's Revolution, since no one seems to stress game innovation(not graphical, but the core concepts) like Nintendo.

Revolution is very interesting, becuase no-one really knows what it will have. Nintendo has always came out with something revolutionary, and now that the whole system is the revolution, it should be amazing. I bet they will come out with something very interesting that no other company thought off. But still, if the system is going to be that small, I doubt it would have hardware anywhere as powerfull as on xbox 360 and ps3. But then again, maybe hardware like that is not as important for them. Who knows what they will come out with, they might just get ahead of everyone else.

I can see where he's getting that idea, though. Published specs:

XBox 360: Overall System Floating-Point Performance: 1 teraflop

PlayStation 3: System Floating Point Performance: 2 TFLOPS

Although I say it's not the speed that matters, it's what you do with it. Wink

I know they published some specs. But until they hit stores I'm not going to believe everything they tell me. Things can happen between now and the release date....

Lots of things can happen between designing something and actually building it. And until someone can actually get a unit and conduct some (hopefully unbiased) testing, it's just a number on paper.

not too mention System Floating Point Performance isn't the only thing in a system.

Ain't it the truth? I still remember reading a quote from someone at Sony before the PS2's launch saying that the system would be capable of "Toy Story"-like graphics. It was just one of those things you knew was fluff from the start...

And that's really what it all is right now, fluff conjured to raise hype. History seems to show that the most powerful system is almost never the one that dominates the era it's released in, so let's see what happens when we can actually play the things...

I suppose that's a fair way to approach it, as I took the reference to "graphics" as being of the 'in-gameplay' sense and not the 'FMV' sense. I'll have to dig up that article/interview/whatever sometime and give it a second read with that mindset to see if it's applicable...

No...not really. FFX had some great FMV's but they were not Toy Story like.
