Thursaday
11:00-12:00 DC Talent Search Orientation Session—Find out what DC Comics is looking for when it comes to artists, and find out whether you have the right stuff to draw for the DC Universe, WildStorm, or VERTIGO! This extremely informative orientation session will explain how DC’s Talent Search works. In order to have your work reviewed, attendance at this orientation session is mandatory—not all attendees are guaranteed a review. Room 9

12:00–1:30 Comic Book Law School 101—New room! New information! New format! Same award-winning creative team! Learn the basics of copyright and trademark law in this popular interactive lecture series brought to you by noted attorney Michael Lovitz, author of the The Trademark and Copyright Book comic book (and the soon-to-be-released Trademark, Licensing and Copyright Book graphic novel). This first workshop will cover the basics of protection and ownership of ideas, characters, and names from their point of creation forward. Attendees will participate in an interactive discussion about basic rights provided under U.S. copyright and trademark laws, then have the opportunity to work together in developing a game plan to protect a new comic book series proposal in preparation for shopping the proposal to publishers. And along the way, there will be plenty to learn about the protections, and pitfalls, of the U.S. Copyright and Trademark systems. Room 1A

12:00–1:00 Professional Networking Seminar—Being talented just isn’t enough. Getting work and continuing to work in the comic book and comic strip publishing world often means knowing the right people, too. Inker Andrew Pepoy (GI Joe Reloaded) brings back his popular seminar to help teach you how to get out there and use Comic-Con to its fullest networking potential. Take advantage of this early time slot to put some of Andrew’s good advice to work over the next few days! Room 1B

1:30-2:30 Coloring Comics with Alex Sinclair—Alex Sinclair has colored almost every character in the WildStorm Universe and has begun to tackle the DC Universe with his award-winning run on Batman: Hush, and this year's Superman and Identity Crisis. Alex will give a brief history of digital coloring and have a Q&A session while giving a demonstration of his coloring techniques. Room 2

2:00-3:00 CAC Session 1: Defining Comics, Again?!—Often the debate over the definition of comics encompasses four assertions: comics as art, comics as literature, comics as communication, and comics as language. Communications professor Randy Duncan (Henderson State University), English professor Gene Kannenberg (University of Houston), art professor David Stoddard (Henderson State University), and linguist Neil Cohn (We the People: A Call to Take Back America) discuss the disciplinary dynamics of these various positions through which the comics medium is studied, and how each category carries particular cultural expectations, perceptions and limitations. Room 7A

3:00-4:00 Spotlight on Stan Sakai: 20 Years of Usagi Yojimbo—Meet master storyteller Stan Sakai, who will reflect on hisinternationally acclaimed adventure series, Usagi Yojimbo—now in its 20th year! Usagi, the wandering rabbit samurai, is one of the truly great characters to emerge from the medium, and his creator has often been called the nicest man in comics. In addition to winning copious awards over the past 20 years for his ongoing series—including a Reuben, an Inkpot, and multiple Eisner awards—Stan has seen Usagi appear as a featured guest on (and as action figures from) both incarnations of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. Find out what's next for Stan's beloved ronin, and hear tales from his creator, one of the most celebrated writer/artists in the industry! Moderated by Dark Horse editor Diana Schutz. Room 9

4:00-5:30 The Sergio and Mark Show—What would a Comic-Con International be without Sergio Aragonés, Mark Evanier, Stan Sakai, and Tom Luth giving you the lowdown on the world's stupidest barbarian, Groo the Wanderer, and other weird projects they have in the works? (Answer to rhetorical question: It would be the same but with one less panel.) Room 8

5:00-6:00 When They Touched Me, I Died: A Different Adult Swim Panel—Pitching a show can be confidence crushing. People in suits who work at networks are intimidating. They want to hate you. For a "how-to" session that takes you through the pitch process and, more important, tells you what types of shows Adult Swim is looking for, you should really consider attending this panel, featuring Nick Weidenfeld, program development manager of Adult Swim; Kim Manning, chanteuse/muse of Adult Swim; Loren Bouchard, creator of Home Movies; and maybe even Chip Duffey. The first 30 people to attend will receive option deals on the spot, no questions asked. That last part isn't true. Obviously. Room 5AB

Sunday
I'm skipping entirely due to a family event. Kinda sucks, seeing it's super bargain day AND ultra freebie day.

All times left empty before 6 will be filled with exhibition hall and all times after 6 filled with meandering from anime room to anime room (until around 2-3am)

As for overlapping times... well I'll be running back and forth between them. and no I did not leave time for myself to eat for those three days. Thank god for 24 hour mexican food.

That's the great thing about this con, it's not just a celebration of comics or animation or movies or even games. It's evolved to the point of a multi-industry semi-professional event. It's as much for the pros as it is for the fans. How many anime cons have that side? It's also the only con that I know of that Adult Swim bothers to show up for.

Plus if all works out REALLY well I'll get a job out of the con too.

True, it's grown to encompass all sectors of geekdom. Just don't get caught up in the "turf wars" between factions.

They might stick their heads in (and necks out) for Anime Weekend Atlanta, seeing as it's close to work.
