Ya, well we have about 12 definitions that all mean the same thing.
The main problem that I've run into is people not understanding the certain "levels" of perversion or sexual content. Therefor they perceive anything with a boob or panty shot as hentai. I find this occuring most with younger fans who hear rumors that ,edited out of the shows they see on TV, are hardcore sex scenes. Series like Tenchi and OLS get this rap alot because people know they're edited, but overexaggerate the extant.
It all boils down to what the show's intent was. If it is centered around a plot and developement of the characters, it's not hentai. If the show contains more panty shots than plot, you have echii.
and if it involves the deflowering of virgins by tentacle monsters with little or no plot....well I think you get the point. _________________ Bang.

I didn't think it was particularly good in the plot and humor department, myself--the first episode is, though I guess. On the whole, though, the series is far too arousing for me to want to watch alongside anyone else, unless that someone else was female and wanted to do a little "role-playing." _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

Ehhhh...Cool Devices is..."odd," to say the least, but I think that everyone should watch all 11 episodes at least once. Now don't get into a fuss, just hear me out on this. It takes something as diverse and..."creative" as Cool Devices to see hentai as a real learning experience.
Here's what you do: When you sit down to watch it, keep a pen and pad of paper nearby. As you watch each episode, from "Curious Fruit" all the way to "Fallen Angel Rina", write down what you do and don't like. I guarantee that by the time you get done you will knwo yourself much better, so far as your level of maturity and your preference of sexual "eccentricities" (or lack thereof).
