Wait, you're comparing P.Diddy & Nelly to Shakespeare, quite possibly the greatest writer in human history? Holy God, the education system has gone to hell in a handbasket....

Draw me one major style or direction distinction between Eminem today, and Shakespeare then, save that one wrote for the theatre, and I'll concede the argument.

I see Bono's arguement. He's talking about beat, rythm, stuff like iambic pentamiter (correct me if I'm wrong, Bono).
If that's the case, then I agree with him and back him up. You'll have to take two of us down to win the arguement.
Granted, a lot of rap sucks outright. And by a lot I mean most. But I am one that believes in the ability of separating the issues out, and separating one's feelings out of issues for the sake of arguement, knowledge, and progression.
Oh, and Shakespear's plays were written down to the people. They were enjoyed by royalty, but they were also enjoyed by peasants. Romeo and Juliet was HILARIOUS. Why? Because all the actors were male. So that famous kiss? The crowd would erupt in laughter.
