So, if I'm not mistaken, today marks 10 years since tom1 showed up for the first time, right? Is there anyone still around that can give an idea of what toonami was like in 99 (after moving from moltar to tom)? What was the lineup like?
Genuine question, I was not watching yet as of then but I'm curious as to what tuning into toonami was like then...
Granted, I've seen that list of shows through the years on Wikipedia, and it's pretty helpful as it seems to lists almost all of the starting air dates, but it still leaves questions about what the lineup/time slots were like unanswered along with the opposite of first air dates--the cancellation dates. More or less a general sense of when and for what time frame is what I'm looking for...(like "this show ran at 5.5pm every weekday from July to March the next year") not necessarily exact down to the day knowledge, you know? Problem is I can't seem to find quite all the answers on my own from just Googling and browsing. So piecing together what it was like in mind doesn't quite come together. Razz
To add to that, in 99, July 10th was a Saturday night..but I thought toonami was a weekday affair until sometime like 2000 in which then midnight run started...or was midnight run already around before tom? I'm confused on how tom was introduced at a time slot that I thought was not part of toonami's programming...

Thanks in advance to anyone that can answer these questions for me. Nothing pressing but they've hung in my curiosity for a while and I haven't found the answers laid out obviously anywhere - mainly because no one seems to have details on time slots prior to 2004-ish.
And lastly--happy birthday tom1...

There was a Saturday Midnight Run which ran from 12-5 A.M. It was basically a precursor to Adult Swim. TOM premiered along with it.

The shows were never "cancelled" as they already had ended their runs at some point before. Williams Street merely bought the rights to the shows and aired them for periods of time.

For instance, they might air Gundam Wing 2-3 times completely, then rotate in Outlaw Star to air 2-3 times. Gundam Wing might be brought back after that or at some other time. Not to mention there was the Rising Sun Saturday block which also showed series apart from the main block. The best way to view it as a frequent rotating library of shows. (In the Moltar years, shows were even more heavily rotated and reaired. 2000-2002 were really banner years in the amount of new series Toonami aired.)

Dragon Ball Z was always broadcast from the day it showed up on Toonami. Some people were getting a bit sick of it... (Obviously not counting 2004-onwards here.)

During some months, Inflight Movies would air on Fridays, meaning a show would only air four episodes that week.

At one point they did try some Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday theming involving the shows. I believe some promos are in the TDA archive.
