funny beat, i flipped on cn a bit before 4:30 to see ads and one of my first thoughts was "beat's gonna love this..."

i didn't really find much of a problem in the edits (based on eva, since i haven't seen nadeisco prior)...you missed one fan-service gag, a "damn" or two, and a little blood on shinji's hand when picking rei up, so it's not like you're in the dark from heavy editing...

truth is, most of us are older than the age group toonami targets, so who do you think they're gonna try to appeal to? while it's a let-down from hearing about "uncut" anime, we still got to see the shows, right?

my main complaint is the ads...if this was really planned, then cn picked a terrible choice of words in the gigantor promo of it airing "in place of ads"...also, i've always believed that cramming credits to advertise is a sign of disrespect, so seeing toonami do that was not cool at all...

still, i'm intrigued by nadeisco (maybe enough to correctly spell it in the future), so giant robot week hasn't been a failure in my eyes thus far...

I'm am actually laughing reading all of this. No, really, I needed that.

The only way to know EVA is edited is to have seen it before. If you've seen if before than you've already seen it, so why complain about the edits? You've seen the goodness, why do you NEED IT TO LIVE if you've already seen it. That's point number one for you all to think about.

2. If CN gets really good ratings, then ADV would be more likely to give them more shows, regardless of whether or not there are edits. You're all thinking like otaku's and not businessmen. As long as it makes money, no one cares. That's why companies get away with a crappy dub/product/car/shampoo/rug for as long as they do. As long as it makes money, it doesn't matter. It's called capitolism. Face it, the same reasons you can't get good dubbing/no-edits is the same thing that this country prides itself on ([sarcasm] because we all know that communists are the most evil thing ever [/sarcasm]).

3. You've all been blinded. I enjoyed both shows because I've never seen them before. If you hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have known they were edited at all. Because of this, I enjoyed them. I enjoyed the first 64 episodes of DBZ when I first saw them. I enjoyed Gundam Wing when it aired. I enjoyed Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, and a host of other shows, all edited. You all have lost the ability to enjoy anything unless it is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. I feel sorry for you all.

4. You're all whining instead of looking at it the way it is. GRW = Toonami trying a new thing. If new thing does well, new things like this, and other new things will happen more often. Toonami and AS have started breaking down censorship barriers. But you can't do everything overnight. It just doesn't happen that way. This is the next logical step. So it didn't happen the way you hoped. Tough. Next time it will be a little better. Then a little better after that.

Eh, I agree with CP on this one. You wouldn't have known about the edits if you hadn't seen the show before. I think that as long as they don't drastically change anything about the show, then let them edit it, at least it will make the 7 yr. olds happy that they get to see such a great show. If you want to see it uncut, then buy the DVD's, if you don't want to buy the DVD's download it off of Kazaa.

However, I do agree that they shouldn't have announced that the shows would air uncut if they weren't going to follow through.

I got the perfect collection of Eva ($60 online w00t!) so I realy don't care. I missed Nadisco today and I realy wanted to see that though. And maybe I'm wrong but does it realy matter if it was edited. So we didn't get to see some blood and cleavege, big deal. Besides, the englilsh dub of Eva is horible.

I can understand some of the edits to Nadesico they have and are going to make. (Key word in sentence: some.) A good deal of the humor in Nadesico is adult, and it makes little sense for it to be in a programming block for kids that aren't going to understand it anyway and their parents are going to get mad for them seeing it anyway. (The parents that believe themselves to be above lowbrow humor like a nervous boy picking up a girl's panties or a girl complaining about incorrect anatomical details on model dolls of her and another girl. The parents, and other adults in general, who can appreciate the show's sense of humor for what it is are t0etAll1E kEwl d00d!) I guess it's like Ruri (the cute, stoic, albino-looking girl) says: "I guess I'll understand when I'm older."

I am no expert on Eva, nor do I profess to be one. I've only seen tidbits and read about most the rest, but I understand the nature and messages of Eva at its core. No children in Toonami's target audience will, and even most intelligent adults can't. My old beef with Williams Street in showing Eva on Toonami is the same beef I'll have with any company trying to capitalize off of complex, mature shows by presenting them to children. It has nothing to do with anime, or even television in general. ITS ABOUT THE ART, DAMMIT! THE ART!!!

I'll say it again, we've probably taken it the best of any Toonami fansite/forum. You should be proud for not freaking out.

As for The Cartoon Network, they've effectivley killed any relationship they could've had with ADV by violating their rules and stance on the position.

I think that one day later, though, our thoughts on the subject can be a lot clearer.

I hate toonami. It's retarded UGHHH

The first ep wasn't edited much.. not much too edit.. the second ep UGh edited ALOT.

Look Eva isn't for kids.. they cant show it on toonami or adult swim.. theyd STILL cut alot out on AS.

Btw, ive got myself 60$ box set eva and its NOT a bootleg.

god i hate this, now all these crap anime newbs who are obsessed with DBZ are gonna go "OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE EVA..WHATEVER.. IT WAS TYTE OMGGGGG I DIDNT LISTEN MUCH TO THE STORY, BUT THE ACTION WAS COOLLLLL"

Bottom line: toonami sucks, they show crappy dubs and totally edited anime.

I conceed that CP is mostly right. Toonami and AS are breaking barriers, but it dosen't matter since GRW is over when I get home. I also agree with an earlier post that said that this is just a stunt to keep ratings up until the final eps of DBZ run.

I really appreciate CN for introducing me to new material and the internet for supplying me with the eps. I miss on tv.

CN is the reason some of us are really into Anime...As for fore the ADV will be pissed at CN thats far from the truth as this statement says

Quote:
A statement from ADV Films re: Giant Robot Week on Cartoon Network

HOUSTON, February 25, 2003 - Cartoon Network is currently airing episodes from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Dai-Guard, Martian Successor Nadesico and the Harmony Gold production Robotech during the afternoon Toonami block as part of Giant Robot Week (Feb 24-28, 2003).

While recognizing the value and significance of the anime titles they were granted permission to broadcast, Cartoon Network is also bound by the exigencies of daytime broadcast—including the requirement that the content they broadcast be, per FCC regulations, suitable for children. Cartoon Network’s edits, which were minor, were in accordance with FCC broadcast requirements.

ADV Films is very pleased that Cartoon Network requested episodes of these titles in their week-long celebration of the “giant robot” genre of anime, and we hope that their enthusiasm for the broadcast of anime will continue and grow.

When you die an unnatural death, I'll show the cops this post so I won't have any jail time.

EVA on mainstream Toonami? All the edits were worth it. I liked it, and it still had all it needed to be Evangelion. As for the dub? Crazy at first, but it grows on you. In the second episode alone, Misato's voice goes from OMFG 5 YEARS OLD to...something pretty close to what was desired.

I was waiting for someone to say something about that post. The NGE does grow on you as the VA's settle into the parts they play.

The dub for eva isnt all that bad.. but i'd prefer the riginal form over dubbed anyday. Anime ios meant to be shown in the original form..

But, eva will probably not be shown on cn anymore.. seriously.. I mean for many eps, such as the one when eva 01 devours zeruel, if they cut that out its a very vital part to the story.
