At the end of the transformers marathon preview dealy thing comercial tom gave a sweet sweet army of darkness (or as it's called in the UK, Bruce Campbell vs the Army of Darkness, hence thread name) tribute by saying the lines Klatu Varata Nictum (or however it's spelled). I actually stood up and cheered when I saw it for the second time. The first time I wasn't paying to much attention and when he said it I was all "Holy Crap! Did he say what I think he said?!" Anywho, it kicks mucho asso whenever WS makes a movie/tv reference outside of the toonami/cartoon network universe. What other references have been made? Anyone?

If he said it properly, it might not be Army of Darkness at all, but rather something far more old-school. Anyone remember Gort?

Might be, but most likely not me thinks. Seeing how AoD is a cult classic action starring the all time mightiest b-movie acter (you know that last bit was not just me opinion...matey). It's mainstream enough that a good number of viewers would get the reference, but it's... well... cultish enough for most not to. Plus I have yet to know of an animater that DOESN'T love the Evil Dead series. All the peices fall into place.

from what I can tell they don't actualyl mean a thing. somebody probably has put meaning to them though.. suposedly (at least according to AoD) it's fromt he necronomicon, which doesn't really exsist.

The Necronomicon was invented by H.P. Lovecraft as an element for his supernatural fiction. It's not real.

Now I'm confused. Are you saying Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell didn't take it from "The Day the Earth Stood Still"? Because I'd have to disagree with you. The whole point of adding something like that is an in-joke to, as Joel Hodgson would call them, "the right people".

Of course, I was always partial to the phrase, "Annal Nathrak Uthves Bethud, Dothiel Diende". <sp> Wink Wink

I thought you meant that the book itself didn't exist.

It's a funny book to read. Do it. Now.

Since the subject of the Evil Dead Movies came up here I want to ask a question. I saw Army of Darkness on Sci-fi once and really liked that movie. I know that Army of Darkness is the third of the Evil Dead movie series (with The Evil Dead being the first) but I don't know the name of the second film. I might want to get these films on DVD, I've seen that there's are The Evil Dead and Army of Darkness DVD's and I want to know the title of the second one and if it's on DVD or video. Question

no no, I basicly meant I like the ED trilogy more than the others. and so, by the LOGIC (damn skippy that's logic, the best kind of all too, spooky logic- you can't argue with that) the reference in the commercial HAD to be from Raimi's movies It's just so simple.
