Series Synopsis –

Produced and created by Robert Mandell, The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers has a fantastic concept. In 2086, two peaceful aliens journey to Earth seeking help. In return for Earth’s assistance, the aliens share the plans for the planet’s first hyperdrive, allowing mankind to open the doors to the stars. With this new technology in hand, a team of unique individuals are assembled to protect Earth and its allies. These courageous pioneers — committed to the highest ideals of justice — set out to preserve law and order across the new frontier. The show began airing in September 1986 as a series of sixty-five 30-minute cartoons, running five days a week. Since then, The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers has reached cult status, sparking a loyal following.

This visionary series combines elements of Westerns, space opera and a sword and sorcery style of fantasy. The well-developed plotline and captivating characters, which pushed the boundaries of children’s programming in the 80s, are sure to excite loyal fans as well as a new generation of science fiction and animation enthusiasts. The series was one of the first anime-style shows to be created, storyboarded, voiced and produced in the United States and was animated in Japan by the famed Tokyo Movie Shinsha. This action-packed cartoon series also features the vocal talents of the late Jerry Orbach, Bob Bottone, Laura Dean and Earl Hammond.

Each DVD contains 4 complete episodes, as they first appeared, restored and remastered!"

Sounds sweet. Thanks! Cool
Too bad it never made it to my area of the country back then.

Oh man, that set is awesome. More than I want to pay for Tylor, but it's full of extra features and still cheaper than a lot of series out there. I wish they'd do things like this more often.

Toy Story, the landmark computer-animated film from Disney and Pixar, turns 10 this fall, with a two-disc 10th Anniversary Edition DVD set to arrive in stores Sept. 6.

A bonus featurette, "The Legacy of Toy Story", includes interviews with celebrated filmmakers on the importance of the film, credited with launching the trend away from traditional hand-drawn animation.

Both the movie's picture and sound quality have been bumped up. Advanced video technology provides a higher digital "bit rate," and the sound has been enhanced by Lucasfilm's Gary Rydstrom, winner of seven Academy Awards and a member of the Toy Story production team. Other special features on the $30 DVD include a new "making of" documentary, 10 deleted scenes, early animation tests and a new music video of Lyle Lovett and Randy Newman singing "You've Got a Friend in Me".

Looks like the first wave of anime UMD's is coming on July 5, 2005, as (according to the Right Stuf RSS feed) Geneon is releasing Appleseed and Samurai Champloo on the Sony PSP-only compatible format. Razz

The Appleseed UMD version will have the movie and Geneon trailers, and retail for $19.98.
While the Samurai Champloo UMD version will package the first two episodes and Geneon trailers for $14.98 retail.

Also, more "girls-in-skimpy-swimsuits with guns" fun is coming from Geneon, as Daphne in the Brilliant Blue Vol. 3 is scheduled for release on July 26th, with a running time of 100 minutes and a retail price of $29.98.

Looks good, Beefy. Thanks for picking up where I left slacking.
The only other things that might be worth mentioning are a couple of quick-and dirty series boxset releases for R.O.D the TV on July 5th and Gungrave on July 19th. Both sets carry a MSRP of $199. ( Laughing )

:added June 4th:

But wait, there's more! Right Stuf again has the early word on some new sets due out from Geneon Entertainment this summer to capitalize on several series that are ending or have ended recently:

Burn Up Scramble Box Set - 300 minutes - $59.99 - 07/19/2005
Ikki Tousen Box Set - 325 minutes - $99.99 - 07/19/2005
Rumiko Takahashi Anthology Box Set - 375 minutes - $99.99 - 07/26/2005

Could this be the start of something big? (cookies to whoever gets that reference Wink )
