It all boils down to what the show's intent was. If it is centered around a plot and developement of the characters, it's not hentai.

Trust me. It can be.

And I'm not sure which is more disturbing- the idea of "Cool Devices" as psychological self-evaluation, or that people half my age (or LESS!) are actually discussing said self-evaluations...

Give me an example. I dont see the reason to further the argument.

Intent defines definition.

Well, you got me there, since the intent's the same no matter what (cartoon pr0n). Razz
Your earlier statement seemed to imply that hentai can't have plot or character development, which is what I was disputing.
Regardless, I submit Masquerade for your consideration.
And no one should be surprised that I have this one. Wink

Fine then! Serves me right for trying to explain that things can be more than what they are. This'll be the last time I try to enlighten any of you. You only wanna take life at face value? Fine! Screw you too! Evil or Very Mad Crying or Very sad

...I don't know what you're talking about. Rolling Eyes
Why would I, as a responsible adult with common sense, post a link to a review of a pr0n cartoon in a message board primarily frequented by school-age minors? Wink
Besides, Google is your friend.

To Rycel: Sometimes I don't want to stare into the abyss.
It was not my intention to demean or insult your ideas. My statement came out wrong and in retrospect, I shouldn't have said anything at all. I am sorry.

No, no, no, you don't have to apologize. I was a little off-the-handle there. It's just that I have a hard time not being able to get others to understand what I'm thinking or saying. I guess that I've been staring into the abyss for so long myself that it seems normal. So when I do open my trap, stuff comes out that's less intelligeble than a bear fart on a snare drum.

My whole point was that there's always more to anything than just what seems appearant if people just take the time to look. I'm probably being too much of an artist when I say that to people ( I should really stop hanging around hardcore thespians so much), but it seems like nobody (now I'm speaking in the broad, big picture sense here) gives a hoot about the metaphysical anymore, it's too much realism. But I guess it's ironic that I didn't take my own "don't take things too seriously" advice before I spoke. I'm sorry.

P.S. That whole "screw you" thing...no it wasn't a pun on the subject matter, and I take that back too.

To Rycel and Nobu,

Thats the most adult way i have seen in forums in a long time of tying up what could have been a long running argument. I bow deeply in respect to you both for not allowing it to go further.

Now onto why im posting.

I drive for a two month contract right now. And the guy who operates the laptop and i are stuck in a car for 6-8 hours a day. He is the reason that that this thread first was created. So now he understand Ecchi and Hentai better. So he's been saying "Well hell i'll get you some real hentai". Which really i dont want. So to get to the point. Today we're driving and he decides to watch, on the laptop, 3 episodes of "La girl blue" i believe it was called. I was listening to it since i was driving. But a couple times i looked over and saw it. And man thats just not right. But if thats what your into. More power to you. As small as it was. It did have a plot. About a sword. But hey id hate to give away the ending of this wonderful piece of cinema. Needless to say it did have a plot, it was hentai in every way, and it was even translated into English. Its almost something i would like to see what MST3K could do with . This is Hentai at its purest form. He had believe Chobits to be Hentai. And to be honest i dont think that even falls into Ecchi. I think its just a plain old anime with weird little robots.

The more i read the thread. The more i think about this. I dont think Hentai is hard to define its cartoon porn. Anyway you want to look at it. Thats what it is. And even the lamest porns that Skinamax or Spice (for those over 18 Smile) show have plots.

Now Echhi is truly harder to describe isnt it? Because Initial D has a scene that they are looking up school girl skirts in the first episode. Is that ecchi? You have scenese in Tenchi are are borderline as well. Though the deleted song by the princess about what she wants to do with Tench more then cross the line.

See what im getting at?

It qualifies as ecchi behavior, sure.

Certainly ecchi in some spots *cough*Nurse Washu*cough*.

Yes, but we're still basically debating where exactly to draw the line between "ecchi" and "hentai". Everyone seems to have their own perception of where it lies.
Perhaps that's the answer.

Forgive me if I get this wrong, but would you say then that the Kama Sutra is just a book of dirty words and pictures? In a sense, yeah, you'd be right, but it's kinda trivializing a manuscript that has greatly influenced human history. Then again, I guess it's kinda hard to argue that watching an animated woman <CENSORED> five men <CENSORED> tentacle monster <CENSORED> pack of timber wolves <CENSORED> "marmalade sandwich" <CENSORED> would have the same bearing on the progression of humankind.

I assume you're referring to the legendary "Ojo-sama to Oyobi" ("Call Me Princess")? It wasn't actually cut from anything, but rather included in the Tenchi Muyo! OVA laserdisc release. Ironically enough, it's about how Aeka performing "Juraian, future-husband training" on Tenchi. And before you go scrambling about for it Kalma, NO there is no nudity or sexual acts being performed. Just a series of stills in with Tenchi tied up and a rather deranged-looking Aeka smacking him around. If you really want to see it (it is rather funny), the video can be found on a few Tenchi sites if you just look for it, and the lyrics can be found here.
