No, it has nothing to do about Disney. No my friends, this is about a man they call "El Homo". That's right Homer. The Simpsons long awaited arrive to the world of cinema is underway.
SIMPSONS creator Matt Groening and longtime partner James L. Brooks have commissioned a team of writers to begin developing a story for a film based on the modern classic. Apparently work has been progressing for months. Details are only emerging now due to writer Mike Reiss' interview with DVDFanatic.com.
"They've wanted to do this since season two. It's been 13 years of wanting to do THE SIMPSONS movie," Reiss said in the interview. "Finally Fox said, 'Let's just do it!' We never had the greatest idea that was compelling but Fox said, 'Maybe if we start paying you, you'll get inspired.' And sure enough, it worked....We've got a very good and interesting idea, and it's different from the show....You know, it's like the SOUTH PARK movie where it's just a bigger, longer, amplified version of the show. I can't tell you anything specific about it. My wife doesn't even know the secret." Contrary to what Reiss says, however, Brooks insists that they haven't nailed down an idea yet.
According to the trades, seven past and present writers from the show are on the team, including Al Jean, Mike Scully, David Mirkin and George Meyer. Brooks, Groening and Reiss are also on the team, naturally.
According to Variety, the film doesn't have a prospective release date, but they speculate it is at least two years away.

This movie better have Kang and Kodos in it. _________________ "Robots don't say 'ye'."

They waited waaaaaaaay too late to start making this movie. This series has been losing a lot of viewership in recent years due to overuse of the same gags, steadily-declining writing, and Fox's overexposure of the show. Five or ten years ago, this would've been the big news of the millennium, but now? Meh.

I can't see what people still like in it. As mentioned it is pretty hackneyed. _________________ To do two things at once is to do neither. —Publilius Syrus, Roman slave, first century B.C.

Did you watch Sundays episode? I thought it was funny as hell. Problem is the writers are hitting it less and less.
