Post subject: Anime with best character development
|

Here you can post what anime you think has the best character development. I can't really say, because I really haven't payed much attention to character development until recently. Why don't you go ahead and post and see if I agree? _________________ LOVE & PEACE! |

Evangelion has deep development.
Although I havn't seen too much of Nadesico, I think it does a good job of developing 20-25 seperate characters. _________________ You're An Inu (Dog)!

Azumanga Daioh. I have loved no characters more than those six high school girls and three teachers. Fantastic work, really.
I give close seconds to Saikano, Oh! My Goddess (if you count the manga), and Eva. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

Best character development in a series: Escaflowne (I haven't seen all of Azumanga yet, so I can't judge it), followed by Saishuu-Heiki Kanouju.
Best development in a movie: Ah! My Goddess: The Movie (Oddly enough, it's the villains that don't exist in the rest of the AMG universe that get most explored here . . . )
Best development in a manga: Oh! My Goddess (I have to admit, this is a horribly biased opinion, I haven't read much manga, and OMG has so many rich characters) _________________ Krogoth uses Berserk.

For the most part I don't believe anime has character development. You just get used to them. I've seen countless anime series where they rely on repitition of action as "character development". Feature films on the otherhand are a different creature altogether-- and I don't mean OVA's of a series. |

Evangelion. Great Chara Development. Especially during the ending (both of them) _________________ The only truth that realy exists is the truth within the mind of the individual and the way the individual sees the world... |

I'm sorry, but you just aren't supposed to have character development at the ending. By then they should already be fully developed. |

I'll have to invoke the name of Tylor. The events in the series and the presence of Tylor in their lives affects not only the crew and the way they see the world, but his enemies experience growth, also.
Not to mention that the Captain himself is also affected. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

obvious to most, i'll have to back rurouni kenshin as the best i've come across as far as character development is concerned...while people complain that getting to the kyoto arc took too long, it was the first 27 episodes that established what we needed to know about the major players going in, and i think this setup allowed for the second arc to truly stand out...
of course, the first ova only continued to flesh out kenshin, and while the third arc could be seen as mostly throwaway, both sanosuke and kenshin got further development through the first two major stories...
i think the big thing that gets me is the fact that even the minor one-shot characters usually get a backstory or valid reasonings for their involvement, which was stuff i never saw in anything else before... _________________ "Life's a journey, not a destination..." -Aerosmith ('Amazing')

I found the character devlopment in Eva to be quite dissapointing. The 'children' are either psychotic or have some other form emotional problem which makes their characters impossible to develop. It seems to me that they seemed developed because there was nothing that could be done with their state. As for Saikano, much of the tension and philosphy that is built up during the series is completly thrown away in the ending. The character devlopment is all that is left in the series, thus it is very near the top of my list. Cowboy Bebop has the best character development of any series I have watched through, followed by Love Hina. Both have incredible character intricies which make the series fun to watch, though Cowboy Bebop is undenibly leagues ahead of Love Hina. I am currently impressed with the development of events in Full Metal Panic! and I am currently looking forward to seeing where they take them. It may well replace at least Love Hina. _________________ To do two things at once is to do neither. —Publilius Syrus, Roman slave, first century B.C. |
