Now that I think of it--in that episode where Gohan fought Tao/destroyed the shelter/etc., Lime (the little girl)'s father knew about Goku and how strong he was. Uh...whozat?

Goku DEFEATED the RR Army, but he didn't KILL every single member. A lot escaped with their lives. Goku isn't ruthless. Not nearly.

Goku didnt kill any of those guys. He just beat the hell out of them. The first time Goku ever kills anyone in the SERIES is Buu.(movies dont count)

What about Commander Black? And Yakkon?

Actually, no. The first thing Goku kills in DBZ is Yakkon. Then Buu. So he only kills two people, but they aren't really people, and they are pretty much pure evil. (Yakkon was taken over through use of the evil in his heart, and so was completely evil.)

As for DB, there are quite a few soldiers in the RRA that he kills. There are many times where something explodes and then you don't see a parachute. Tao was understood as dead, but he was so strong, you could see him living through a simple grenade exploding.

Plus, Goku kills Piccolo Daimou. The Piccolo we all know and love is his reincarnation. In DBZ, Goku only kills those that are entirely evil, in DB he kills many more.

Goku tries not to kill when it isn't necessary (like, for instance, showing mercy on Vegeta in their first fight), but sometimes he has to finish the guys off in order to make sure they don't hurt anyone else in the future. Officer Black could kind of be in that category, although I prefer to look at it as him being killed by his own devices (in other words, "man uses technology [robot] to hurt people, Goku destroys robot, robot blows up and destroys man, the end"). He found it necessary to kill Frieza, but as we all learned he actually failed the first time (Trunks ends up finishing him off). Yakon was an obstacle to the main villain(s) (Majin Buu/Babidi), and had to be disposed of quickly and totally to ensure that he wouldn't interfere later. Besides, Yakkon also falls under the "got what he deserved" category ("Monster uses power to drain others, Goku exploits fatal weakness in power, power destroys Monster"). Others meet similar fates (Tao Pai Pai blowing himself up, as does Ninja Murasaki) that seem to be directly or indirectly Goku's doing. I really haven't gotten far enough in the Manga to tell you exactly the circumstances of the Piccolo Daimoh battle, but it probably falls under either the Frieza "Gotta kill him or he destroys the world and everyone I love" category, or the other "Killed by own stupidity/arrogance" category. Goku isn't blood-thirsty, brutal, or a vigilante (in other words, going around dispensing judgment as he sees fit). He's just a sweet, naive kid/man with an incredible power and a sense of protecting the people and the world he loves. The number of people he actually kills is rather low, considering the number of fights the kid gets into.

My question...ok I barely seen some episodes of DBZ on the episode where Trucks from the future comes in. If he's a saiyan I really can't figure why he has a sword...if he has super powers then what's the sword for?

Swords are cool. Men with cool swords are cooler. That's pretty much it. You have to admit, that was one kickass sword. And the scene where Goku blocks every shot with just one finger was wicked cool.

To answer the question more scientifically, it's because swords are big phallic symbols, and by giving a relatively young character of medium build a big-ass sword, you automatically give him an enormous symbol of macho-power as well. Or, in other words, Big Sword = Big C*ck, which in turn = Super Strength and other Super Power. It's just another visual cue of having power, that's all.

Of course, plenty of DBZ characters had weapons that would later become extraneous or unnecessary, the prime example being Goku's Nyo-bo (or "Power Pole" to the Gaijins), which basically disappeared after a certain point in the Dragonball storyline. The Flying Nimbus almost disappeared too, but luckily made some extra appearances thanks to Gohan and his little brother Goten inheriting the cloud at later parts in the story. It seems fitting that Gohan would recieve his final training by using a sword (the Z-Sword) because, after all, he was given a sword in his first training session as well.

The old Kai's alright and pretty crucial to the development to the Buu saga and all...and I do like would have happened (err, did happen) if (since) Gohan failed in killing buu...

BUT I STILL THINK it'd have been the most ROCK-AWESOME thing EVER for Gohan to rip back to Earth and kick True Buu's F@G @SS UPSIDE-DOWN with the Z-Sword..

-exactly.

I know we found out that Gohan's physical strength was a lot above what he could've acheived with the sword--it's like giving a Blackbelt from Final Fantasy a weapon when his strength is a higher level than that weapon's attack--but still, i just that it was KEWL K THX~
