the problem is it has to be very very true to the games to be any good. it's way to easy to turn it into a pathetic farce, a piece of crap if it were. _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

It sounds like everyone and his brother has, at one point or another, been up for the role of SUPERMAN. This week yet another name is tossed around. The rumor states that 32-year old ANGEL star David Boreanaz has been offered $30 million for a three-picture deal to star as the Last Son of Krypton. Apparently this "news" broke in the DAILY EXPRESS newspaper, which went on to quote Boreanaz as saying, "It's going to be hard to be both Angel and Superman." _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Dean Devlin (EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS) is planning to produce a movie based on the MECH WARRIOR video games. Paramount is currently negotiating with Wiz Kids to obtain the rights for Devlin's Electric Entertainment. "Whether I write the script or help with the script or direct, I'm crazy about the material, and this is a real passion project for me," Devlin said. Devlin also said that he plans to make a $150 million movie for $100 million. "The type of CG we'd use for this movie, in which warriors battle in giant mechanized suits of armor, would be much easier to create than spiders," he added.
Personally I've been waiting for a MEchwarrior movie for the longest time (since about 3-4 days after I bought Mechwarrior 2 back in 1995). It's just unfortunate it has to be coming from the guy who gave us Eight Legged Freaks. Though maybe it will be like Daredevil and he really does have a passion for the property and will try to make the best movie possible. Though it's unlikely.

Apparently the leading contender for a BUFFY spinoff over at UPN is WILLOW, centered around Alyson Hannigan's character. FAITH THE VAMPIRE SLAYER was the leading contender, but since Eliza Dushku jumped ship, this was their next best idea. UPN is apparently hoping for a fall launch, with other assorted BUFFY regulars on board.

PLAYBOY has announced that they are planning a "Women of Starbucks" issue. According to reports, the coffee company is not happy at all. Starbucks only comment was, "Starbucks is not affiliated with this project and does not endorse it."
Slim, you can not defeat the king of random news that is I. Probably on account I check about two dozen professional and semi-professional entertainment news sites pretty much every time I sit down in front of my monitors (I finally got my video card and have gone dual monitor, yay me!). Anywho, it is you who should keep one eye open... you never know when my undead super fecal flinging sniper monkeys of doom will strike. You can only detect their pressence by the oder of their ammo... so actually keep a nostril open. Not that it will save you. _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

Christopher Lambert (HIGHLANDER) has agreed to reprise his role as the thunder god Rayden in the upcoming MORTAL KOMBAT 3: DOMINATION. The film will see Lambert resurrecting Johnny Cage for a new tournament. The film is expected to be released November 2003.

Breckin Meyer (ROAD TRIP) is in negotiations and Jennifer Love Hewitt is in final negotiations to star in the live action/CGI adaption of the long running comic strip GARFIELD. Peter Hewitt will direct the film from a script by Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow, which focuses on the rivalry between Garfield and Odie.

UPN has cast David Gorham (ODYSSEY 5) in the lead role for the upcoming pilot WEAPON X. Its currently not known if the project is related in any way to Marvel Comics WEAPON X.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Guillermo Del Toro (BLADE II) has agreed to write and direct a live action version of the Kenneth Grahame's book THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS for New Line. Del Toro will write the adaption with Matthew Robbins. The budget for the film is expected to be large, as all of the talking animals will be CG. _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Edward James Olmos is in final negotiations and Mary McDonnell has completed a deal to star in the Sci Fi Channel's miniseries/backdoor pilot based on the 1970s series BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Olmos will play Commander Adama, originally played by Lorne Greene. McDonnell will play the president.
Jack Black (ORANGE COUNTY) and Will Ferrell (OLD SCHOOL) have sold an untitled comedy pitch to New Line that will see them star as motorcycle cops in Los Angeles. In the film, Ferrell will play a cop that moves to Los Angeles because there is no crime in his hometown. Black will play the youngest in a family of cops that is wholly unsuited for the job. Judd Apatow (FREAKS AND GEEKS) has agreed to direct and write the film. "Jack, Will and I are old friends," Apatow said. "We've been looking for an opportunity to collaborate on a project, and this idea really makes us laugh. The idea of getting these two comedians to work as a team has always been very exciting to me." _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar
"That was the idea at the beginning. But in order to get "Dog Soldiers" made I had to sell all my rights (remake, sequel etc) to the U.S, so now I've got no control over anything like that. There was talk of a sequel with the producers, but not now".
THE DARK
Marshall says he's still going to firmly concentrate on horror for his next project though. "It's called "The Dark", it's very from different from "Dog Soldiers", a little more bleak, very much in the style of "The Thing" or "Aliens". It's about 5 women cavests who head down the darker steps of a cave and encounter something pretty disturbing below.", says Marshall.
EXCALIBUR movie
"I'm also doing a Medieval Heist movie - I'm just waiting on the money for that one. It's a spin on the "King Arthur" tale but set 30 years after King Arthur's death. Excalibur falls into the wrong hands and it's up to Guinevere to get it back".
ALIEN 5
Not surprisingly -considering how closely "Dog Soldiers" resembles it - Marshall would like to have a go at writing or directing one of the "Aliens" sequels. He actually wrote a treatment for "Alien 3", but it went unused. He says he thinks the story could easily pass off for the next movie. "They go back to the original planet from the first film where they discover more eggs on the spacecraft and so have to rescue the people back there", he says. "You never know, it might be used for a future one".
But Marshall says the last "Alien" movie deterred his interest in the series temporarily. "They just lot the plot with Alien Resurrection", he says. "But I'm fascinated with the mythology and character of the Alien and part of me would love to do an Alien film one day. Not an "Aliens vs Predator" - that'll just be a smash-em up movie that'll get the kids in. It'll have no great story - but a return to the original". _________________ "Veni. Vedi. HBO has teamed a deal to bring Jack Black's (ORANGE COUNTY) series vision to the cabler. Black has teamed with UNDECLARED's Seth Rogen and Jason Segel to produce BLACK MARKET MUSIC, which focuses on a pair of twentysomethings with different goals that end up running a Hollywood record shop. Black will appear in at least the pilot. "It's like HIGH FIDELITY with a pinch of TAXI," Black said of the project. "Jason and Seth are the best writers I know. You will see me in the pilot episode making television history."
Producer Gerald R. Molen (SCHINDLER'S LIST) has acquired the film adaption rights to the long-running Japanese comic book LUPIN THE THIRD. "As far as whether or not we know it will be a success, no one ever knows," Molen said. "I'm so thrilled I could fly. I want the film to continue as long as the 007 series." The series focuses on master thief and hero, Lupin the Third.
According to TheArnoldFans, Arnold Schwarzenegger will soon be prepping himself for a return to sword and sorcery in KING CONAN: CROWN OF IRON. The project has been long delayed, but according to the website, he is about to undergo intensive training to bulk up.
Jeremy Piven (SERENDIPITY) has agreed to star in SCARY MOVIE 3 for director David Zucker (THE NAKED GUN). Piven will join Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards, Anna Faris and Regina Hall in the film, which, like the previous two, will spoof recent horror and sci fi movies. Piven will apparently play a news anchor. Zucker will work from a script by Pat Proft and Craig Mazin.
After kicking out singer Naturi Naughton because she wasn't "ghetto enough," 3LW has finally chosen a replacement: 15-year old Jessica Benson. "Just a few weeks ago I was just a high school student with dreams of a professional music career and now it's happening so quickly," Benson said.
Chalk it up as another SUPERMAN V casting rumor, but reader 'Jessica S' wrote in to say that she heard on radio station WKRQ that Rob Lowe has done or will do a screen test for the role of Lex Luthor.
Got to love the wiseness of the wizards. Whilst speaking with TIME Europe, Ian McKellan revealed a grand idea for a prequel: "I want to play Gandalf again, in The Hobbit. I've asked Peter Jackson if he'll produce the prequel as a huge, yearlong television series. All those different strands to the story seem perfect for TV, and we'd do every scene of it. It could be marvelous".
TheArnoldFans reports that at last week's "The Arnold Classics" bodybuilding seminar, Arnold Schwarzenegger talked a little about his upcoming movies. Not only did he reveal he will be doing a 2.5 hour daily workout regime to put on muscle for "King Conan", but also almost acted out the 'arrival' scene of his cyborg character in the third "Terminator" flick: "The Terminator then gave some fun new details to "T3: Rise of the Machines" as he practically acted out one key scene - the arrival. The Terminator arrives from the year 2029 and in his usual birthday suite attire, he is in search of clothing. The T-850 approaches a strip joint called "The Spot" and luckily for Arnold it happens to be "ladies night"! Since there are so many other semi-nude male dancers, the bodyguards out front think nothing to out-of-the-ordinary of the nude cyborg. The guard tells the Terminator to go around to the back entrance but it doesn't listen and slams him and then throws him through the air. Arnold enters nude through the front among dozens of screaming and adoring female admirers of his massive body and spectacular private section". _________________ "Veni. Vedi. When such disparate names as Jude Law, David Boreanaz, Josh Hartnett and Ashton Kutcher are bandied about for the same role, you know something strange is going on.
The casting go-round continues for Warner Bros.' new version of "Superman," to be directed by Brett Ratner from a screenplay by "Alias" creator J.J. Abrams. Along with donning the tights and cape (a daunting thought, in and of itself), the role also comes with a three-picture commitment, which has been sufficient to cause many of Hollywood's A-listers to get cold feet.
With "Pearl Harbor" star Hartnett having apparently bowed out of the running, such new contenders as Brendan Fraser, Paul Walker ("Joy Ride," "The Fast and the Furious") and soap-opera actor Matthew Bomer ("The Guiding Light," "All My Children") have popped up. A British tabloid even reported that "Angel" star Boreanaz was inked for the part, but the actor's manager refutes that.
One actor willing to talk about testing for the part is Victor Webster, one of the stars of the syndicated science-fiction series "Mutant X." The strapping, 6-foot-3-inch Canadian, who describes himself as "a big fan of the old-school superhero stuff," is just happy to have been asked to come in for the role.
"It's a personal accomplishment for me, no matter what happens," says Webster of testing for "Superman." Asked what it entailed, he says, "Dress up in the suit; dress up as Clark Kent; stand in front of the camera."
As to whether the familiar red-and-blue costume has been updated, Webster says, "It's Spandex and tight. I probably shouldn't say anything else. I wasn't told not to say anything, but I imagine they want their concept to be their concept, and for me to spoil somebody else's thing, that's disrespectful."
He adds, "It was very cool, no question about that at all. The script is excellent. Obviously, I can't go over the details of the script, but it's really well written. It's a great character movie with tons of action, but you really feel for the characters. There's no campiness in this movie whatsoever, no campy humor, no goofy humor. This is a very serious action-drama."
Whether he gets the role or not, Webster has a few opinions.
"If I was the director, I would make it very dark, very gritty. I would make it mean something,” he says. “I would go with somebody who feels really good about the character and develops the character, as this movie does, and I would direct it very dark."
"I think Superman has to be physically big. He's got to be square-jawed in the way that he looks. He can feel. I wouldn't think he has to be emotionally made of stone. I would think the opposite. You're dealing with somebody who's never fit in his entire life. He's a total outsider, never quite knew what the hell he was, especially as a kid."
"So I would imagine that he's really emotionally tormented, very lonely. All he has is his parents. What's he going to do, fall in love with Lois Lane and then what? 'Look, I'm an alien.' You're going to love this new script, let's put it that way. J.J. did an amazing job. It's not just about being entertained, he makes you feel something."
As to who should get the part, Webster -- who, obviously, has a personal stake in this -- says, "Think about it, you want an unknown. You want a big guy, strong actor, as Superman. You don't want somebody that you've seen in everything else."
In this opinion, though, Christopher Reeve, the movies' original Man of Steel, backs up Webster. "Probably seven or eight months ago," says Reeve, talking on the set of ABC's "The Practice," where he is doing a guest role, "I got a call from ['Superman' producer] Jon Peters. He said he had been following the course of my recovery and had seen a documentary made by my son."
"He said he felt inspired by that and decided not to do 'Superman vs. Batman,' which was in the works with Wolfgang Petersen. He said, 'Why should we have two superheroes fighting each other when the world needs heroes?'"
"As I understand it, he dropped that idea and pitched the idea of retelling the essentials of the 'Superman' legend, with Anthony Hopkins playing Jor-El. He was talking about casting, and I said, 'If you want my two cents, you should definitely cast an unknown, as Dick Donner did 25 years ago, and find a Superman for the 21st Century.
"There has always been, since 1938, a Superman for each generation that reflects the times." _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar
In the past three years Marvel Entertainment has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. With the recent success of "Daredevil" the comic-based production house now has four concurrently running film franchises. Here's the latest word on the next wave of Marvel movies.
THE PUNISHER
"The Punisher" continues to be a hot project for Marvel and Artisan Entertainment. Jonathan Hensleigh is set to make his directing debut on this one. He also wrote the first draft of the script.
Executive Vice President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige confirmed that Michael Tolkin ("Deep Impact," "Changing Lanes") is doing a polish on Hensleigh's draft. The producer also told C2F/CBR News that, in spite of recent rumors, nobody has been signed to star in the movie yet.
In their just-released earnings report, Marvel projects a 2004 release for this movie.
MAN-THING
Feige confirmed that Brett Leonard ("The Lawnmower Man") is now attached to direct the movie version of Marvel's "Man-Thing." Feige was unable to confirm reports that production could start on the film this summer.
BLADE III
Filmmaker David Goyer told C2F/CBR News that he'd be turning in a draft of "Blade III" this week. Goyer, who wrote the first "Blade" and wrote and produced the sequel, may be wearing a new hat in the third installment.
"There has been some talk of me directing yet, but nothing is firm yet," Goyer said.
Expect more news about this project soon. The filmmaker told us that they'll be budgeting the script soon and looking at star Wesley Snipes' schedule. Firm details are about a month away.
The aforementioned earnings report lists "Blade III" as part of Marvel's film line-up, but does not list an estimated release date, simply stating "to be determined."
DEATHLOK
Buzz has been gradually picking up on "Deathlok," Marvel's cyborg soldier from the future.
"We'd love it to be our first movie with Paramount Pictures," Feige said.
Newcomers Raven Metzner and Stu Zicherman have penned a script for the movie which Feige calls, "a great draft." No director is attached at this time.
The earnings report also has "Deathlok" targeted for a 2004 release.
FANTASTIC FOUR
Newcomer Tristan Patterson is the latest writer to take a pass at the script for the "Fantastic Four" movie. This is not actually new news, as the writer came on board months ago. Peyton Reed ("Bring It On") has long been attached to direct.
As with "Blade III," the "Fantastic Four's" release date is listed in the earnings report as "to be determined."
OTHERS
Marvel's just-released earning report also shows "Iron Fist" and "Ghost Rider" as possible 2004 films, while "Dr. Strange" and "Namor" are targeted for 2005.
"Silver Surfer," "Iron Man" and "Prime" are all listed as "to be determined." _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar
