I want to rent some suspense-type anime like Magnetic Rose on the Memories collection, but I need some help finding some. Anyone here know of any really good not mecha and magic spells, but on the edge of your seat style anime? I would really like to know what you guys think.

Also, like any anime fan, I do like the mecha and magic etc etc... Please post your favorites of those types as well... Just seperate the two, please.

THANK YOU!!!

If you like suspense, try Perfect Blue. No mech and no magic.

Like Fata said, Perfect Blue is pretty darned good... Or you can go for Jin Roh, which has a lot of blood and bullets but is an interestingly suspensful story... both Perfect Blue and Jin Roh are one-shot movies...

As for series, Noir has an interesting intrigue plot, and it follows two female assassins... it also has a lot of bullets, but not as much blood...

Other than that, I would also suggest Witch Hunter Robin. Yes, it has magic, but it's like a cross between the X-Files and La Femme Nikita... a very intriguing plot and secret government organizations abound! Unfortunately, I don't know when Witch Hunter Robin will be coming to the U.S., so it's only available on fansub right now...

Of course, there are also a couple of mech series that have high intrigue plots, super secret government organizations, secret origins of characters, etc. etc. .... those would be RahXephon (which I'm not sure is over here in the U.S. yet or not) and the ever popular and infamous Neon Genesis Evangelion... they score high on the "what the hell is going on here?" scale...

hope I helped you out...

I thought that was a general underatanding and didn't need to be overtly stated.

Unless, of course, you are a relative new person to the realm of anime, in which case it would be important to point out that there are two movies named Vampire Hunter D, and that a distinction between the two should be made in order to keep people from becoming confused...

am i right?

*still givin' Spooky da "evil eye"*

sorry if we O.G.'s are confusing you, Thricsis_TS, we just get very, well, opinionated about what is good anime and what is anime that relative newcomers might get into...

To sum up our opinions on this matter, we all suggest that you should rent the following titles:

Perfect Blue
Vampire Hunter D
(the original)
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (the newer sequel)

...and my personal additions to that list included:
Noir
Jin Roh
Witch Hunter Robin
and RahXephon (if an when these titles come to the U.S.)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (of course, I suggest this title to EVERYONE anyway)

I think TS is just giving you two the "evil eye" since he's a true O.G. from day one, returned from the wilderness known as life.
Or not. Wink
What about "'edge-of-your-seat' plus mecha" shows like Betterman?
