AoD lists June 10th. Is that what ADV listed?

I love this topic, it doesn't cease to make me laugh.

Has it occurred to anyone that this is just a way to usher in new fans to anime? In the long run, this is the way to bring edits to the bare minimum (they'll never be gone, and they never should be gone. And I say that after observing the affects of advertising on children and other such things. My views are well founded on the benifit of hte country. Yours are based on whether you'll get to see the extra blood and panty-shots just because yupi know that they are there.) This is a LARGE step to what we all want. "Sacrifices must be made."

This whole GRW thing is expsoing millions to shows they may have never seen before (I've never even heard of Nadesico or Dai-Guard before I heard they were headed for GRW). This alone is benifiting us all. Like I've said before, I've never seen either Nadesico or EVA before, and I LIKED them because of it. The edits only hurt those who have already seen the show.

I have a short questionnaire for all the people who saw Evangelion for the first time on GRW (don't look at any notes). What is your impression of Evangelion, and why? What do you think the series is like? What is the major conflict? What genre is it? What are the two most important characters? What are the two most prominent conflicts presented?

*ding!*
Time's up, put your pencils down, and pass it to the front.

Were you able to answer all the questions? I didn't think so.

This is an interactive example of what's wrong with the concept of Giant Robot Week. You can't get a feel for what the show is like in just two episodes, particularly the setup episodes. Virtually everyone who likes Eva because of what they saw on GRW will be mistaken. Almost none of the intrigue, psychological self-conflict, and important decisions are revealed when the big bio-mechanoid thingies beat up on each other. The only real way to promo Evangelion is to start showing the episodes, and not stop until you reach the end or the public outcry against it becomes the proverbial irresistable force. This isn't exclusivism on the part of a die-hard anime fan. It's just the Small Sample problem.

But that's not the purpose of playing Evangelion on Toonami. It's simply to get people to pay attention to it. I didn't understand any of Akira or Robot Carnival the first time I saw them. I just though they were absolutely amazing. I'm esitamting the same thing will happen with a few of those who see Evangelion on Toonami. After a period of n00bism, they will emerge as full otaku, ready to debate the merits of the Instrumentality Project with the best of us.

FAK, you are right, but you also aren't thinking like a company exec, you're thinking like a fan.

After seeing those 2 eps, I have a huge urge to see the rest, because DAMN those were cool. That fight was amazing, and when a fight that good is in the second episode, you know that the fights are just going to get better and better. That does satisfy the DBZ fans. Hopefully enough (from the ADV point of view) for people to buy the series. I knew from all the talk that EVA is cool, and having heard nothing about Nadesico, I was more than pleasntly surprised. It should be noted, however, that probably the two main reasons I like anime are that I like good animation and I like action. It's why I like DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho. Although I can also appreciate a good plot.

As for what you say about the psychological intrigue and such, anyone who takes the time to look at both the relationship between Shinji and his Father, and how the 2nd episode was laid out (with showing the fight LAST and showing the after affects FIRST) would be able to tell that there is more behind it than just big-self-healing robots bashing the crap out of each other. And they would HAVE to explain where the Angels were from, how they came about, how they could heal, etc., etc.

GRW did just what ADV wanted it to do: made me want to buy the NGE boxset. For more reason than just the "ME SMASH" action.

And let me just say agian that the fight in the 2nd ep was SO COOL. Beautifully animated, and showing the inherent savageness of the EVA 01. By the way, what was the cord trailing from the 01 for?

Power supply. They're powered by electricity. If the cord's severed, the EVA has 5 minutes of battery back-up.

The cord is how the EVA gets its power. Unlike other giant robots, the EVA has to be "plugged in" to function at full capability. If the cord is severed, then the EVA has 5 minutes of active time remaining from internal batteries.

Why not just put a nuclear reactor in the EVA to power it? Because it's too big of a risk. (see episode 7 I think).

Which reminds me: how are gundams powered?

With Minovski reactors.

Two days ago, I bought the EVA boxset from Best Buy. Best impulse buy ever. As far as I'm concerned, Mistato is still an alcoholic slut. Not like on the CN.

It is a pretty good series, I hear the ending isn't great but as I said before I heard of another season somewhere I'll have to check. I've download almost all of it. If you gotten Newtype you'll see the Manga...both are very different. And Zechs I've seen them they are pretty cool. They all seem to be from within the 1st 10 eps

Is there ANYTHING that can't be done with Minovski particles? What exactly are they, BTW?

Also, you're quite right on the second part. I really don't like some of the edits on CN. The toothpick joke is harmless. NOBODY wears a bikini in the bath, then mysteriously loses it when they put on a towel. It just doesn't happen . . .

*Goes off murmuring to himself about how it's just not right*

Actually, EVA really doesn't have THAT much fight scenes in it. It's not mindless fighting like DBZ or anything.. I mean, it has good actuion in some parts, but that's not the point. Eva focuses more on the human dillema of the characters rather than fighting. The only REAL action scenes, are in End of Evangelion, Fight against Sacheil (you saw that one.. a few parts were cut out actually), and the fight against the 14th angel Zeruel. The rest of the action is quite breif. like this.. run up to the angel, stab it, boom its dead. but before that they must have a way to attack the angel. It's cool how they fight the angels but its not just a plain action scene.

btw, dbz's animation isn't all that great O_o..

Sounds like a typical Gonzo series. Great visuals, but lacking in storytelling skills. :/
I still want to see it, though.
