His physical health is much more stable even now than Eisner's mental health ever was.

Disney president Robert Iger said on Wednesday that a renewed deal between the house that Walt built and Pixar Animation Studios was "unlikely, reports REUTERS. He added that partnerships like the one Disney had with Pixar to distribute its films often "outgrow one another."

"If it's not Pixar, it will be someone else," Iger told an audience at the Royal Television Society's international conference in London.

Nintendo Co. intends to enter the animated-film business, Hiroshi Yamauchi, an adviser to the video game maker, said Wednesday. At a press conference, Yamauchi said that he plans to make a proposal for the project to create an animated film at a management meeting to be held in October. He indicated that the film will cover a Japanese poet who appears in Ogura Hyakunin Isshu, an anthology of 100 poems by 100 different poets. "I would like to make the piece that will be acceptable not only in Japan but also in foreign countries," Yamauchi said, adding that making video games is somewhat similar to movie making. "Though it is up to the management whether the company will decide to make an animation piece, we should advance to such a field. Nintendo could take a risk," he said.

Evidence that a new "toon boom" is upon us - with the highly anticipated release of THE INCREDIBLES, ROBOTS, CHICKEN LITTLE, MADAGASGAR, CARS in the next 18 months - comes with this announcement about Wild Brain and Miramax.

Is this another Disney buffer against losing Pixar? Sounds like it could be - but it's an exciting move that adds another player to the growing list of current CGI cartoon factories: Blue Sky, Pixar, Disney, Sony, Dreamworks and ILM.

ICv2 News has posted an image of Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: the Cartoon Network's newest original animated series based on the real life Japanese pop band Puffy, which features lead vocalists Ami and Yumi. Ami is the peppy, positive and resourceful one, while Yumi is the hard-rocking cynic with an infallible sense of cool.

In its cartoon incarnation the band travels around in its fully furnished customized Puffy bus and despite occasional misjudgments by the band's tragically square manager Kaz, the girls survive exotic adventures such as being chased to the center of the earth by obsessive fans, jamming with aliens and getting knocked into a video game by a tsunami.

The cartoon series will also feature live action segments starring the real life band performing the group's catchy J-Pop hits. Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi debuts Friday Nov. 19 at 7:30 pm

Does this remind anyone of the movie SpiceWorld? BE AFRAID!

I've been afraid of Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi since day one. Why is CN reviving the "cartoon series based on popular stars" genre? Animation studios did this tactic several times in the 60s and 70s and failed miserably at it, so why do it again?

BEcause they AREN'T popular stars amywhere outside of japan. Oh sure, 1 out of every 100,000 heard their name mentioned pre teen titans, and now that number is a whopping 1 in 10,000. I'm willing to bet you that the casual observer of Teen Titans does not know the name of the band for the intro song. Which until their series airs is their only claim to fame in the US.

SIMPSONS creator Matt Groening talks to THE SUN about his new goal: "I'd love to get to 365 episodes, so there's one for every day of the year with no repeats."

And Groening once more from a much longer piece in the GUARDIAN: "Everyone on the show this year seems really re-energised and we're starting to throw out ideas for the movie and I think that will either kill the show or completely re-invigorate it."

According to Noel Boeke, counsel for CrossGen in its bankruptcy proceedings, the former publisher’s assets were sold yesterday to Cal Publishing Inc.

According to Boeke, Cal Publishing, Inc. offered the high and best bid of $1 million for the assets of CrossGen and CrossGen IP and CrossGen technologies. The company is an indirect subsidiary of Disney, according to Boeke.

The next step in CrossGen’s proceedings comes Friday with a hearing at 2:00pm when the judge will consider whether or not to approve the sale. If the sale is approved, the deal with Cal Publishing must be closed, and afterwards, the bankruptcy trustee would distribute the money CrossGen’s creditors.

Walt Disney Co is simultaneously developing two sequels to Toy Story, Disney CEO Michael Eisner said at an analysts' meeting, the Orlando Sentinel (subscription required) reports.

The first two Toy Story films were produced by Pixar, but that studio's distribution pact with Disney gives the Mouse House the right to produce sequels all on its own.

At the meeting at Goldman Sachs, Eisner also predicted a culling of CGI-animated studios within five years and stated that Disney has more than 30 animation projects in development, IMDB reports.
