20th Century Fox Home Entertainment (TCFHE) and Genesis Orlando Inc. have entered into a multiyear distribution agreement for the U.S. and Canadian video and DVD distribution rights for the animated film property, TUGGER, THE JEEP 4X4 WHO WANTED TO FLY. Fox joins the Chrysler Group/Jeep brand and the Joester/Loria Licensing Group in New York City, in support of the animated film.

The story centers on an animated character modeled after a Jeep vehicle who dreams of one day flying like an airplane. The film will be released in theaters this Christmas through special Charity Screenings along with the official launch of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The direct to video/DVD release is scheduled for release in February/March 2005.

"Our corporate and creative mission is to develop and build strong entertainment properties along side mutually beneficial marketing partnerships," said Alan Guimond, Genesis Orlando's coo. "We're extremely excited about our partnership with 20th Century Fox Home Ent., as they join our partners, the Chrysler/Jeep Group and The Joester/Loria Group."

"TUGGER is a great asset to help launch the all-new 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee," said Jeff Bell, vp, Jeep and Chrysler Marketing. "The animated character upholds the Jeep brand reputation for innovation and the go-anywhere, do-anything spirit of Jeep."

Principle marketing will be directed through BBDO Detroit, the advertising agency of record for Chrysler Group. Key licensing will be handled through the Joester/Loria licensing group in New York.

Glad to see they're getting work and I hope it leads to bigger (and better) things. Cool

Similiarly, Ub Iwerks Color Rhapsody SKELETON FROLIC is included on dvd release of THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVERA - because a certain cartoon buff at TriStar insisted it be part of the package.

I believe that would be Mike Scheslinger, he's responsible for bringing lots of things over here from Japan (Godzilla movies) under Sony. Also, he strives for the best releases possible. I've spoken to him on a forum a couple of times, he's a great guy.

Cartoon Network To Launch Preschool Bloc
By Maxie Zeus
08-10-2004, 09:58 AM
Cartoon Network will launch a weekday morning bloc of preschooler-oriented shows next spring, today's print edition of The Wall Street Journal reports, with Warner Bros. set to produce most of the new programming. It is likely that the new shows will air without commercial interruption.

If the new bloc is successful, the newspaper reports, Cartoon Network is prepared to convert its Boomerang channel into a preschooler channel.

....craaaaaaaaap

update: a wee bit o detail about the whole preschool thing. Minus the Boomerang part.

Cartoon Network and the Warner Bros. Television Group are putting together a new weekday morning franchise of original and acquired television targeted for preschoolers to premiere on Cartoon Network in spring 2005. The unnamed joint venture between WB and CN will mark both companies' first major production foray into the preschool market.

Its primary emphasis is on developing, nurturing and valuing a child's sense of humor, to be packaged within a distinctive, cohesive on-air environment, according to Alice Cahn, Cartoon Network vp of development and programming. She will supervise the development and acquisition of programming, working closely with Warner Bros. Animation president, Sander Schwartz, who will also be a major supplier to the joint venture.

"On weekday mornings, we know that younger children comprise the majority of our viewers when older siblings head off to school," said Cahn. "The significant resources and ingenuity of Warner Bros. Animation provides us a powerful partner to help build this new franchise into a joyful, meaningful experience for these young viewers."

"We believe that preschoolers are underserved in the marketplace and we want to fill that void with high quality, fun-filled entertainment across all media and all platforms," said Schwartz. "Our long-term relationship and experience with creating productions for Cartoon Network is simply fantastic. Our plan is to tap into the wonderful beloved characters within our unparalleled library, as well as create vibrant, exciting new franchises for the younger set of our audience."

"Research showed us that the marketplace was filled with television services pushing traditional skill-based curriculum for youngsters, but nothing specifically addressed the importance of letting kids be kids and showcasing humor to facilitate friendship, learning and self-esteem – what I'm terming 'smart fun'," added Cahn.

KRYPTO, showcased recently at the Comic-Con convention, is the first announced series for the new preschool service, coming from WBA and DC Comics' Superman. KRYPTO follows the adventures of Superman's faithful canine companion when he lands in Metropolis after being jettisoned as a test-pilot puppy aboard a rocket ship made by Superman's father, Jor-El. He befriends a lonely boy named Kevin Whitney. Armed with a wide array of superpowers, Krypto uses his doggy superpowers with Kevin to protect both the people and animals in Metropolis.

All of the series will be developed in collaboration with a child development advisory board and from a curriculum framework based on the importance of humor to children's healthy development.

Alan Menken, the Oscar-winning composer of Disney's animated movie Aladdin, told reporters that the upcoming DVD will feature a brand-new song he composed with the late Howard Ashman. The song, "Proud of Your Boy," was written for a scene in which Aladdin attempts to reassure his mother that he'll turn out all right. The song was scrapped when the character of Aladdin's mother was deleted from the movie, Menken said at a press preview for the two-disc DVD set.

"'Proud of Your Boy' ... was really special to Howard and me," Menken told reporters. "It was, I think, one of the best ballads we'd ever written. It was a song that Aladdin sings to his mom about how he's going to make good. ... And we thought that was going to be the single."

The DVD will feature a music video of the song, performed by original Aladdin musicians and sung by American Idol's Clay Aiken. The video is one of several special features on the DVD set, which hits store shelves on Oct. 5.

While in the editing room of Team America, Trey Parker and Matt Stone discuss the future and the end of South Park. Sadly, it seems that the extremely busy schedule with Team America is too much for Trey and Matt to handle and they want to say goodbye to South Park at the end of season nine. Click here to view the video. This video comes from Crap TV's Team America site. For additional audio clips from Trey and Matt in the editing room, click here.

Transcript of the video:

Quote:
Trey: We got two more runs of South Park, and then we're getting the fuck out of here.
Matt: I'm gonna have some kids, and I'm not gonna do that with Trey.
Trey: Yeah.
Lloyd Kaufman (to Matt): Are you married?
Matt: No, but I'm going to get married, have some kids and that won't be with Trey.
Trey: Then we're going to get drunk and watch our kids play with each other."
*group laughs*
Matt: That's our next project.

As the title suggests, the show will revolve around a supergroup comprises of crime-fighting Playboy bunnies. They will be assisted by another superhero that dons the silks of justice, Hugh Hefner; Hefner may provide the voice for his character.

But late at night when everyone assumes I'm in the grotto living the good life, I'm out there with the Superbunnies fighting evildoers."

"This project is going to be a lot of fun," Hefner added. "It's going to be more than just an action show. It's going to be very satirical with a lot of cutting-edge aspects to it."

"VENICE — Director Hayao Miyazaki's animated film Hauru no Ugoku Shiro (Howl's Moving Castle) was warmly received Sunday at the Venice Film Festival. The audience who packed the 1,000-capacity hall exploded into applause and whistles for more than five minutes after the show.

Howl's Moving Castle, based on a children's book of the same name by British author Diana Wynne Jones, is entered in the competition section. Set in a world of science and witchcraft, the story describes the romance between a sorcerer named Howl and an 18-year-old girl, Sophie, who is turned into a 90-year-old crone under a spell on the eve of war. (Kyodo News)"

Reuters reports that Howl is the first animated film to compete at the Venice festival in 30 years.

According to festival director Marco Muller, Miyazaki's film is "possibly the strongest anti-war statement we have in the entire festival."

The Melbourne daily The Age calls Castle "The best film of the festival so far," raving, "Miyazaki's imagination is apparently boundless, but it is the sheer loveliness of his old-fashioned, painted scenes that make you want to hold your breath for the film's whole two hours.

Fox has secured movie rights to the Chipmunks from the estate of Ross Bagdasarian Sr., who created Alvin and the Chipmunks in 1958. His son, Ross Bagdasarian Jr., and Janice Karman will produce the movie.

A writer and director are being sought to bring Alvin, Simon, and Theodore to the silver screen.

The Chipmunks feature reportedly will be handled similiarly to the way Fox made GARFIELD: THE MOVIE. The role of Dave, the Chipmunks' adoptive father and musical coach, will be live-action, with the Chipmunks themselves to be animated.
