It's that good old tradition of anime companies again, when everyone gets together and changes the names of anime series to some really crappy-sounding titles.

And who is our group this week? Why, it's none other than our good friends at FUNimation! Due to some legal considerations, Detective Conan, which is coming to Adult Swim later this year, will be changed to Case Closed here in the U.S.

Yes, they're calling it THAT.

Can you feel the love in the air? ^_^

What's odd is why they would bother changing a name like "Detective Conan" and not bothering to change Yu Yu Hakusho. On the website it speaks of legal reasons, but I dont think I've ever heard of another show with that name. Normally name changes do not bother me, but come on....Jimmy Kudo?

I think Fodder's on target with the "Conan" thing. An animated show with the name "Conan" probably falls into 1 of two camps:
1) Conan the Barbarian series-
Conan the Adventurer, by Sunbow Productions.
Conan and the Young Warriors, brought to us by our friends at DiC.

2) Sherlock Holmes (a creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) series-
Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, also brought by our friends at DiC.

Either one can bring some heavy-hitting trademark lawyers down.

If they have to make these changes so it can get on TV and be successful, more power to them. The hardcore can have their unaltered DVD's.

W already covered that. Why the hell do you carethat they had to change the series name? hmm? Do you think I care that they changed Batman Beyond to Batman of the Future? No. Why? because it didn't effect the series any.
