Xbox executives can pop a bottle of champagne. Apparently, people are diggin' the Xbox. The proof doesn't come from some over-enthusiastic PR spin or anyone's personal numbers. All you need do is take a look at the numbers and you'll see that Xbox is in the midst of crushing the GameCube.
According to the NPD Group, one of the most respected market research firms in the industry, November marked the seventh consecutive month Xbox outsold GameCube in terms of hardware and has outsold GameCube in software in all thirteen months of its existence. Selling nearly 500,000 consoles in November, Xbox nearly doubled its sales numbers from October. Xbox consoles have edged GameCube by 20% in total sales, a considerable gap, especially when you look at the great first-party titles Nintendo has managed to release this year.
In November, Xbox saw it's second best month of software sales to date, with 2.4 million units selling. That's 10% more than the GameCube, but still far below the might of PS2. In terms of GameCube versus Xbox, though, Microsoft's console has sold 34% more software overall than GameCube. The Xbox also maintains the highest attach rate to date for a console that's thirteen months old, with 4.7 games per unit sold.
Further proof of Microsoft's growing dominance over GameCube comes when comparing the two bundle offers. Microsoft's Xbox bundle that comes with Sega GT 2002 and Jet Set Radio Future has outsold the GameCube Mario bundle by 335,000 units or 131%. However, it should be noted that the GameCube bundle is not nearly as widely available, which could contribute to the wide gap.
The GameCube is often saddled with piss-poor ports of multi-platform games and it shows in terms of sales. The Xbox has managed 58% greater third-party sales than GameCube according to Microsoft.
Though Microsoft has yet to come close to the PS2 in terms of installed base, the big MS can take comfort in knowing their online programs has bested PS2 from the get-go. Comparing their first month of sales, Xbox Live outsold PS2 Network Adapters by 14% and the three major Live titles (Ghost Recon, MechAssault, and Unreal Championship) sold over 300,000 copies combined in just the last half of November and managed an astounding attach rate of 80%.
With far bigger titles on the horizon for Microsoft next year and very few big franchises left in Nintendo's bag for 2003, it could be an even merrier X-Mas for Microsoft a year from now. _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

Videogame tournaments are more than common place nowadays, popping up in arcades, game stores and other such area’s but, as a story from The Hollywood Reporter details today, that’s not the only place. According to a story run by The Hollywood Reporter this morning, San Diego-based company Gamecaster has partnered with Talentworks to tape two game tournaments a year and air them as part of a series next year. The tournaments will each feature hundreds of players battling it out in front of a live audience. It will be taped over five days, then divided into 13-weeks for the television season. While the story continues to note that Talentworks will start selling the idea to networks in February, and thus no stations have the show lined-up yet, the story continues to reveal that Gamecaster has signed on with Microsoft to include any of its 130 PC and Xbox titles, as well as Electronic Arts who will let Gamecaster use Battlefield 1942
In addition to Microsoft and Electronic Arts, the story continues, Activision, Sony and Nintendo have also been contacted in the hopes of getting PlayStation 2 and GameCube on the show. While no form of registration is currently available, it was revealed that potential players will have to pay a $50 entry fee to battle in the tournaments.

It kind of came, it kind of went, it kinda never happened. They probably had to shift it to early 2003 anyway (if it even existed), because they can't attach this kind of validity to rumors especially after the Rare fiasco.
Nintendo hooked up with Tomy, though. They are one of the top 5 toy makers in Japan, and made Zoids. _________________ "KUSANAGI!"

Xbox crushing The Big N? o.0 dunno. Big N's press release. Oh and im still looking for the Megaton announcement -_-
The November NPD report of sales data from American retailers shows that Nintendo GameCube jumped more than three full percentage points in next generation console share...while Playstation 2 increased two percentage points...all at the expense of Microsoft’s Xbox...which lost five points of the market.
Unit sales of Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft’s Xbox were dead even in November (468,000 units each) – despite Microsoft giving away two free games with their hardware.
Nintendo GameCube also showed the biggest jump in software sales, climbing more than 150% over October totals...compared to 97% for the Xbox and 48% for PS2.
With the smash entry of Metroid Prime, Nintendo GameCube is on track to have four new titles this year eclipse one half-million unit sales, while no new Xbox title has yet to reach that mark Both Metroid Prime for GCN (#2) and Metroid Fusion for GBA (#10) appeared among the top ten sellers for all game sales in November.
With sell through of 1.3 million units, Game Boy Advance was as popular in November as Playstation 2. Game Boy represents 33% of the total hardware market. Nintendo held 46% of the total hardware share for the month of November, an increase of 11% over October. Sony held 42% (-6%) while Microsoft held only 12% (-5%).

Japanese videogame giant Nintendo Co Ltd and Japan's third-biggest toymaker, Tomy Co Ltd, said on Thursday they planned to tie up in game software sales.
The alliance, aimed at jointly promoting Tomy's games for Nintendo's Game Boy Advance and GameCube videogame systems, follows similar link-ups by Nintendo with other game developers such as Namco and Bandai Co.
Nintendo, lagging behind Sony Corp in the home videogame console battle, has been stepping up its effort to support third-party game developers to help widen the game offerings for its consoles.
Under the latest agreement, Tomy will entrust Nintendo to sell its games designed for Game Boy and GameCube, including its "Naruto" fighting game which is set to debut in March.
"We can take advantage of Nintendo's powerful marketing network for videogames. The deal will also help Nintendo expand the product lineup for its consoles," a Tomy spokeswoman said.
Tomy also makes games for Sony Corp's PlayStation 2, but about 70 percent of its software is for Nintendo's game systems as its strength lies in child-targeted character games.
The first game to be published under Nintendo will Tomy’s Naruto. Naruto is a Cel Shaded 3D fighter based on the hit anime series of the same name and is slated for a Spring 2003 in Japan.

Well its just a rumor :/ oh well.
An actual comment on the Megaton by a Nintendo representative .. don't get excited though.
NOE's head of PR, Shelly Friend labelled the whole Megaton concept as "absolute rubbish", and was apparently quite amused by the amount of speculation surrounding the alleged announcement.
In all the entertaining rumours over what the Megaton could be, many seem to have forgotten that the announcement itself was a mere rumour. There quite likely is no Megaton at all.

Um ...I heard that Square soft is makeing a Final Fantasy 7-2.....)IM NOT TALKING ABOUT FF10-2). Is that true or not?
The people who told me say its kind of more of a prequal because it starts out when Sepiroth 1st dies, not when you kick his ass 3 times in a row....and ends....um I dunno when it ends. I beleive them because they are trustworthy, but I dunno if its true. So I seek the great advice and intellect of the great TIO forum.

Your answer:
Hot on the heels of the formal announcement of Final Fantasy X-2, Japanese site Quiter is reporting that series' producer Yoshinori Kitase mentioned a possible sequel to the series' most popular installment, Final Fantasy VII, in the upcoming issue of Japan's number one game magazine, Famitsu.
According to Quiter, in an interview in the mag, Kitase says that he would like to make a continuation to FFVII -- and lots of other people do, too, including character designer Tetsuya Nomura (who recently debuted as a director in his own right with Square's immensely popular Kingdom Hearts.) Kitase goes on to say that since there are so many ardent fans of the game, they don't want to make a bad game. Consequently, concrete plans and a schedule for the game have not been decided upon.
It sounds a bit far-fetched, but so did FFX-2 until it happened. We'll see what develops in the future.
