I cant even find anything on google about this even. But on CN I saw a commerical for "Transformers Gobots". No no no no no.... Why?!!!!!! Bad enough i have to live with Leader 1 as a mini-con. But the original Gobots were unloved didnt sell that well. And the show felt like "What if Hanna Barbara made a giant robot show". You had little kids transforming scooters (hey wait that sounds like a new show to).

Why do they disgrace the name of transformers? Sure,we the fans, have our DVDs of the movie and it features a lot of really bad hair metal. But Gobots?!

Well theres hope for Transformers:Exosquad and Transformers:MASK i guess.

btw salavaging this thread. Does anyone have Tranformers/GIJoe #1? The drawings of all of them as WWII vehicles and people looks incredible.

You mean the toys?

That commercial has been airing on CN for quite a long time.

Apparently, they're for pre-schoolers.

Gobots is actually a TV show. I used to watch it on CN back in around '95.
But yes, it fails in comparison to any transformers show (even armada)

You're thinking of Go-Bots, the old '80s toy line and cartoon that was generally seen as "Transformers if it wasn't good". Originally released by Bandai in Japan as Machine Robo, it was distributed in the US by some company (Galoob, I think) and eventually lost to TF in the long run. Later on Hasbro bought Galoob, and in the process gained the rights to the name "Gobots" and those of the characters, although they didn't get the toy molds (those were still owned by Bandai).

Upon acquiring the rights, Hasbro used the name "Gobots" first for a character, then for a sub-line of Transformers that turned into cars that were compatible with Hot Wheels tracks (this concept was later revived with the name Spychangers), and finally became the name of a separate Transformers line geared toward preschoolers, marketed first under the Tonka brand name, then Playschool (both times as "Transformers Go-Bots", but the "Transformers" part is in the process of being dropped to avoid linking the preschool toys with the more violence-oriented main line).

The Machine Robo line has been revived in Japan (along with several other '80s TF-like lines). There is technically no information on whether the line will be brought to the US (by Bandai this time, of course), but the fact that Bandai recently rushed to trademark the name in the US seems promising. In any event, Machine Robo Rescue has apparently gone over well in Japan, and transforming robot toys seem to be on a surge of popularity in the US, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the line saw a US release.

The commercial was, in all likelihood, an advertisement for the Playskool Go-Go-Gobots (as they are nicknamed by some adult fans for reasons that elude me). The commercials for the toy lines are heavy with animation (much like '80s Transformers commercials). Some of the recent toys include a video with a cartoon on it; it remains to be seen whether this cartoon is a standalone creation or an episode of a planned series.

On an unrelated note, ever since the use of Leader-1's name for a Mini-Con, fans have been hoping for more Gobots references. None have been forthcoming, unless you count Liftor and Sureshock (a forklift and a scooter--vehicles which had previously appeared as Gobots but not as Transformers), but the newly launched "Transformers: Universe" recolor line promises to include characters from many different continuities, so there's a better-than-usual chance of Gobots characters showing up.

The nobu of toys. And I say welcome as well. Thank you for all that. I bought some of the original gobots when they first came out. But the rest of the information is really good.

Well, I looked up the URLs. But I used to get confused myself, so I went ahead and basically learned what was going on with the name.
