The new Sorenson codec is now available for purchase at the Sorenson website.
Retail box versions will be arriving at distributors within a few weeks.

What's the big deal? The new AVC codec will offer High Definition encoding using the H.264 standard.
Bottom line: higher quality video with smaller file sizes than the current Sorenson Video 3 codec.

Will this new format be used in future TDA/ASF content?

Is QuickTime even capable of playing back H.264 content yet? I thought they were waiting for OS X 10.4.

H.264/AVC is my newest obsession. Incredible quality.
Too bad there aren't any full-featured implementations yet...

H.264 support will be in QuickTime for all platforms sooner or later. Apple would be stupid to limit it to Tiger.

Fun Fact: Sorenson 3 is actually based on a draft spec of H.264.

*BUMP*

As you may or may not have noticed, most of the videos on TDA since March 10th have been H.264

I haven't gotten any complaints yet, so I'm assuming everyone can play them.

I'd just like some input (maybe somebody could update that survey/poll on the left of the site), should H.264 be the new standard for videos on TDA, or for compatibility on computers with <1000 MHz CPU should we stay with SV3 and xvid?
