The only thing that really bothers me about my school is that they spend tons of money on sports and art and music, but all the intellectual clubs only run because they don't cost a dime. Debate club, Mock Trial, all that stuff only runs because it doesn't cost the school anything. Want some more cash for building the set of the play? Sure. Want some for a FIRST team? Sorry, we really like the idea of a robot competition, but we can't help you.
That and the fact that I have to write a really long essay on Macbeth today . . . _________________ anime is teh s uck

And this, my friends, is why A-Tech doesn't have sports. Then again, all of our clubs have to raise their own money anyway. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

That's also why I'm going tech school, sports are non-exsistent, it'll be kick-ass to have no meatheads everywhere (although I look like one of those aforementioned meatheads).
What sucks is that the school I want to go to is in the twon with the highest living expenses in the state, it may be cheap for some peo0ple but I may be living out of a furniture truck I'm going to buy from my grandfather( he's a weird one, if he thinks a vehicle may be useful he'll buy it) _________________ The Mighty King of Bad Ideas |

So out of curiosity, WHY are the sports teams so important? Is there ANY reason to give them more money then the art or music department?
And get this. Washinton has a statewide competition for the football teams with the highest GPAs. My school won. With a GPA of around 3.0. That doesn't say much for the sports teams, does it?
And about two years ago, there was this scandal in North Idaho, about 30 miles away. A few members of the basketball team at the local school made a porn video of one of the cheerleaders(all were underage), and when they were caught, they were almost completely cleared. Although the cheerleader later admitted to ASKING them to do that, you can bet your a$$es that if the video makers had been techies or nerd types, they would have had their rear ends handed to them by the local authorities. A lot of people were raising hell about it, though I never found out what happened in the end.
Maybe all of us should fight the injustice of sports teams and cheerleaders. _________________ Ice cream has this erotic sense to it- kinda like the one choclate and strawberries have.

I have a friend who's a cheerleader. Not all of them are evil.
As far as private schools go, sports are important. Why? Well, one of my teachers explained it to me once. See, when the alumni come to visit the school, they usually come to a game to see how the old team is doing. If the team does well, then it puts them in a good mood, which usually leads to a big fat check for the school. Aside from that, many many MANY people like playing and watching sports. But no one wants to watch a debate club tournament. There's nothing you can do but except it. It's life. _________________ anime is teh s uck

I would watch a debate club tourney if it were made available. Or maybe they need to soup it up. Add a snappy host, a chair that electrically shocks people, flashy lights, and upbeat techno music. Yeah--that'd be perfect. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

If you stop to think for more than t 20 seconds you get shocked, I'd watch that one.
I think it is a matter of "our school won a football tourney, were better now" idea going for sports. And like on person said, if you have a lettermans jacket on (most are from sports) your chances of getting pulled over a really lower, one kid was going 45 in a 25 zone and got away scot-free, becaue he had a lettermen jacket on. _________________ The Mighty King of Bad Ideas |

My high school just spent over $2 million on a new gym last year. That makes 3 gyms my school has now. Why do we need 3 gyms?
Are they going to make one of the old ones into a pool and another into raquetball courts? No, we just get 3 gyms for basketball. I thought 1 gym was enough.
Why can't they spend that much on a new computer lab to replace those crappy 75MHz macs we're stuck with?
You can tell where our school's priorities are: sports, sports, sports. |

Ah, I love my school more and more with the more of these horror stories. Our school intentionally sabatages the School Districts attempts to give us sports teams. Our gym isn't even full size with 1000 students, and we fought tooth and nail not to have the expansion built. (We were at 700 before then.) _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

Thank God for college. I went to Binghmanton just to see it, and did you know what they did after class? They had a Pac-Man competition! And a basketball game! |
