Just like to share this tidbit with you all. I’m in the special effects business and I cannot help to notice that the Toonami’s “mascot (bluish/grey storm-trooper) is almost identical to a trooper character I portrayed back in a 1985 film titled “Star Quest. More info below:

I just added this "current event" to my Facade FX page a few hours ago. I'll go ahead and add "Tom 1" at the bottom of the banner tomorrow - banner based on Toonami characters that are based on my trooper costume...

Toonami's mascot wasn't inspired from that.

It was inspired from Space Ghost: Coast to Coast.

I do seem to recall Toonami's Mascot being a man/thing in a heat suit... Was he/it inspired by that thing as well? Damn you Toth and your ripping off of ideas!

My overall opinion is that nothing is being copied here.

The storm trooper-esque costume in the picture isn't something horribly oringinal, in the sense that its been done before. By the logic that Cartoon Network copied the idea for Tom off of this character, then the 'storm trooper' character was being copied off of every motocrosser, snowmobiler, or Biker who wears a helmet and goggles.

That being said, Tom 1 looks nothing like the character in said picture, and Tom 2 is just a sleeker, bigger, and 'cool'er colored modicication of the original.

But that's just that, my opinion.

Is "Tom1" the name of this Toonami character? Anyway I've changed the pic a little. Star Quest - Beyond the Rising Moon was an independent scifi film produced in Virginia back in 1984 - completed in '85. I was hired as a set designer, prop builder, stuntman and actor (one character being the main trooper in this film). Director Phil Cook is currently "updating" this film via CG technology and I had to dig up my old trooper costume out of the closet for some recent re-shoot for the DVD release. I really never said that Toonami "copied" from the Star Quest trooper, I'm just saying that they must have been inspired by it.

All we're saying is that the chances that whomever thoguht up the Tom character having seen Star Quest is slim to none. and this is Tom 1:

Your biggest argument is that the head/helmet looks alike. Well, go look at some motercycle helmets, they're much more prevolent than your movie and look just as much like Tom if not moreso. Basicly any visored helmet looks similar to another.
