Wow: "The earthquake triggered a tsunami of up to 10 metres high, sometimes travelling as fast as an airliner"

Want to know how bitter I am? My first reaction
"Damn thats going to cost the IT business a bunch of money. Maybe it will force them to bring some back"
Then after i got over being a racist bastard I read up on it. 5th worst recorded earthquake in history. The deathtoll is starting to look like it could be one of the worst disasters in history. If there is a part of the world that couldnt survive this its that part of it.
Pray to your God that somehow they are able to recover from this. It will take superhuman efforts. But they will come out of this and hopefully never have to face it again in our lifetime.
If history has shown us one thing its that the people with nothing to start with are the ones who can recover after losing what little they have and becoming stronger because of it. |

Wow, way to be typical Americans, guys.
I just heard that hte quake may have disrupted the rotation of hte Earth. This is some serious shit people. This is a tragedy WAY worse than 9/11 ever was, only there was no instigation and no crazy terrorists: it's just science being science. But it's a really bad tragedy. _________________ anime is teh s uck

I was thinking the day after the story hit "gee, 10 times worse than 9/11 and 1/10th the US news coverage". _________________ My old sig was too long. |

oh but how can it be worse? It wasn't america that was affected
"Leading the news tonight, Local mayor accused of christmas tree fund misappropriation, in the biggest scandal in our city in over a decade, reports show kickbacks and tree embezzlement all through the local City administration...
And in other new a small tremor in Asia somewhere has been reported to have killed 10 American tourists, Government officials made a statement to the press earlier today ruling out terrorist involvement, though further investigation to the cause of this is underway,
Also the el nino has struck again...."
I can almost see a news report to that effect being spewed somewhere _________________ The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? |

As y'all have pointed out, this is not an intentional act of destruction designed to send a message. (Unless being an "Act of God" falls under that category) Yes, the cleanup is getting more press than 9/11 did, and that's because it's a foreign incident. But 9/11 coverage did not stop with the cleanup, nor was the immediate coverage all about the cleanup. Government officials speculating about the who, where, and why got a lot of face time, iirc. None of that will apply here.
Am I surprised this is less coverage per casualty? No.
Do I see any reason to complain about it? Not really.
Is this an outrage? Not at all. _________________ Krogoth uses Berserk.

but couldn't you imagine it being written off as a tremor, and be about how many american tourists were killed? _________________ The problem with America is stupidity. | I have to agree with the married slave. It annoys me to no end at how the local news channels here put this earthquake story on the back burner. Hell, the top story around here was OU preparing for the orange bowl. This is the greatest disater to happen this year and its like no one cares. |

Wow, it's really not been reported that much by America? I'm surprised, the scale is just...huge...how can it just be a back story ^^;;;; _________________ rednekbob9: 1: You're Female

Well, it's front-page news over here, but nowhere near the news blitz that other tragedies were. _________________ My old sig was too long. |

When 9/11 happened, out of the ~65 channels I recieved at the time, 27 aired nonstop coverage. I counted. Because I couldn't believe it. 27 channels were airing non stop coverage, no word of a lie.
This is Front Page news, and top story. But it isn't airing constantly. 52,000 dead so far. Hot damn, that's impossible to fathom . . . _________________ anime is teh s uck
