Well, each of the major patches is an update to 1000+ files. The downloading takes about half of the time for me, coming off a trio of T-3 lines. The rest is actually changing those 1000+ files, which takes quite a while on a slow computer. _________________ Krogoth uses Berserk.

Um...accept that your laptop simply sucks for gaming and buy a new one, and that there's no magic button or switch to press inside that'll make everything work and have the thing shit blueberry tarts out of it's cd-drive. _________________ Bang. |

Okay, I have a solution:
- Bend the laptop over your knee.
- Spank it.
- If necessary, take off your belt or get a whicker rod and whip it.
Okay, seriously, do you still have the same problem of the CPU reading as 100% in use?
(Most of these are for when explorer.exe takes up too much of the CPU.)
Some things I found via Google that may take off the load:
Switch to Windows classic theme.
Turn off fast user switching (particularly if svchost.exe is the program taking up 100% of the CPU).
Turn off transition effects for switching windows.
Turn off cache thumbnails (you'd also want to switch a non-thumbnail view).
Disable "Enable web content"/"Show Common tasks" crap.
Turn off system restore (unless you really need it or maybe just reduce how much disk space it uses?).
There might also be a spyware Browser Helper Object that Spybot and others don't normally catch. But since you reinstalled XP, I think the problem would only occur if you reinstalled certain software. |

Sorry about my post of frustration up there i'm better now ^_^. Everything seems to work now so yay for me. Don't ask how I fixed it cause I come back into my room after watching Return of the King in the other room and it's working. No more slowdown for me, now let's hope it stays that way.
EDIT: On second thought I may have just figured out what was causing the slowdown. I have a P4 2 ghz and it runs at that speed while the cooling fan is off. Strange thing is, when the cooling fan comes on now, it drops to 1.2 ghz. Anyone care to answer that dilemma? _________________ There is limited intelligence in the galaxy, but the stupidity of the universe is infinite. |

So... is doug somehow nearby FDD? This sounds like the makings for a TIL reunion? Hey, FDD--what are the chances of you being able to come to Vegas some time this summer. I'm sure you could stay at my house for a few days. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

Oh, I thought you were serious...
Anyway, the only thing I see you can do is get a new computer. Dell sells gaming laptops for about $1900. It's not bad from what I read. Maybe you could make the new one for gaming and the other for a paper holder. That way, it won't be useless. |

I find it difficult to accept that 2GHz is inadequate for casual gaming purposes. Although video memory is probably lacking in some aspects.
I'd try throwing more RAM into it, esp. if you're running XP. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

Ehh...laptops aren't really good for games anyway. But if you do keep having that strange PS / processor problem, I'd say its something to do with your BIOS settings. But I couldn't really tell ya without looking at it.
BTW, I just re-formatted as well b/c stupid member of my family got mad adware on my pc. It pissed me off, so now Im clean and running fine again. Oh and FDD, if you don't have win xp....you can always find it at kazaa. Im....not ....saying I do......*flees the scene* |

or he could just replace the faulty fan and prevent any overheating problems.
Mind you he prolly doesn't know how. _________________ The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? |
