Post subject: Disturbin the peace!

I have a band and we've been practicing for several months now and we're starting to get pretty good altogether. We jsut bought some new equiment that has given us a huge sound quality(and volume) boost. ANd the neighbors have strted complaining as of last sunday, cops came, and today we got another complaint even though we played pretty early. We play at my friend's house in his garage but we like to have the door open so that the doesn't bounce back to us so much. Hence complaining neighbors, even though we practice pretty early, 6 or 7 ish.
I'm sure this is a problem with many bands, finding a place to practice. I'm assuming at least some people on this board have a band or know of some. If so hook me up with some practice spot ideas.
DISTURBING THE PEACE!
DTP!
Yeah I also was rocking too hard in my room (to John Mayer) and the lady next door came over and complained.

you can play all you want before 10. Disturbing the peace my ass. The cops can't stop you from playing during the day (thats the biggest suggestion I can give you, play earlier, like noonish on saturdays or whatnot). |

That's not true, if it's "excessive" noise then they can stop you at anytime and confiscate your equipment.
The reason we haven't been able to play earlier has been because our drummer didn't get off work till 5 or 6.
We're gonna play earlier now but in another location anyways, which will suck. Cause we're used to where we're at. Nice little set-up.

Ask your local Rec center if you can schedule some time in a room.
If that fails try finding an empty warehouse or install some soundproofing whereever you're practicing now.
Your best bet is if you know of a storage unit place try renting a unit and creating a studio inside. _________________ Bang. |

a friends of mine's band (actually they were all friends) rented a spot in a local strip mall, they played at night and as loud as they could, the nearest house was like a quarter mile away.
As for the exsessive noise thing, that's still bullshit if a cop told you this it was because he was a jackass. Not once have I had the cops called unless it was WELL after 10pm. |

Well we've been told that by 3 cops, my singer's father, a neighbor cop, and the cop that actually came. Maybe it's a state or city thing. Now we ahve another friggin problem though. My friend's dad doesn't want us to to be moving the drum set around cause he's afraid it'll break and crap (even though we'd replace anything damaged) for his and our sake. I mean most of us have jobs.
We're gonna have to figure things out today.

my college actually rents out soundproof rooms for musicians to practice and jam in, which has allowed my guitarist and i a lot of freedom in how loud we can play...you can't exactly fit a drumset in one of them, but it's still rather convenient and costs us only $25 a semester (though it used to be free...) _________________ "Life's a journey, not a destination..." -Aerosmith ('Amazing')

My friend was in a band and pretty much, the neighbors called the cops and they couldn't play for some time. It didn't become a problem since my friend got kicked out. |

hehe. funny story.
Yeah my band NEEDS me. Well maybe not "need" but they would have a lot of trouble without me. I'm the main guitarist, plus I sing.
I'm pretty much the director/conductor.
Not to sound conceited, I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to music.
