Disney executives are furious with Miramax (their subsidiary studio) right now. And it’s all to do with Father Christmas. Yep that’s right, Miramax film BAD SANTA has riled Disney's feathers due to the content of the film. The upcoming film, which was directed by Terry Zwigoff, stars Billy Bob Thornton as a criminal who works as a shopping centre Santa in the run up to a robbery. As you can imagine there’s a lot of off key action involved (Santa swearing, having sex, etc).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Does anyone remember TOTAL RECALL? Well apparently Dimension Pictures has brought the rights to the sequel. As Arnold Schwarzenegger can’t return, they’re lining up Patrick Swayze to be the main star of TOTAL RECALL 2.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

because there isn't somewhere else to put this:

J.K. Rowling's agent, Christopher Little, has been telling people that Rowling has started work on the 6th book in the HARRY POTTER series. Could this be a mistake? They haven’t set a date for its release after the delays with book 5. They might have wanted to keep this under wraps for a while.

After Peter Jackson cut some scenes from the beginning of RETURN OF THE KING that featured Saruman, Christopher Lee has been in a rage. He is refusing to go to the premiere of the film because of the cuts. Fans have streamed to sign a on-line petition to try an get the footage put back. Nearly 10,000 have already put their name to paper.

If he was younger, I'd tell him to wait until the extended-edition DVD... Wink

In a recent interview Anakin Skywalker, otherwise known as Hayden Christensen, revealed that the heavy breathing synonymous to Darth Vader will definitely be heard. He also said that there will be an amazing light-saber fight which will be the longest sword fight we’ll ever have seen. Shame we have to wait till 2005 to see the damn film.

It has long been an on again, off again rumour but finally STARGATE: ATLANTIS has been confirmed.

Twenty episodes (one hour long) have been commissioned for airing in the summer of 04. It will play back-to-back with new episodes from the eighth season of STARGATE SG-1.

No cast have been confirmed for the series yet, but the SG-1 team will make guest appearances in some episodes and they will feature in the opening two hour movie premiere. The executive producers of the show will be Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, who had the same roles on the original series.

The Sci-Fi Channel describes the series as this:

"SG-1 centers on the Stargate, an ancient portal that allows instantaneous travel across the galaxy. STARGATE ATLANTIS will take viewers on a brand new adventure, with a whole new team. In the new series, a secret base left by the originators of the Stargate is discovered in the most unlikely of places – on Earth, buried among the ruins of the legendary city of Atlantis. The implications of this amazing discovery lead the Atlantis team to a distant galaxy where a primitive human civilization is threatened by a sinister new enemy."

The Scarecrow could actually be back in BATMAN 5.

He was at one time down to be the main villain, in a script called “The Frightening” that was doing the rounds at one point. Now the word is that Scarecrow will be back in the script. It won’t be a huge part, but it will set the tone of the film and lead into the main plot.

The plan is to have him terrorising Gotham City at the opening of the film. Then, Batman will, naturally, battle him. As a result of these actions he would have to leave Gotham to track down Ra's al Ghul in London.

The actor rumoured to don the straw is Christopher Eccleston, who was last seen as Major West. Danny Boyle's post-apocalytic zombie movie 28 DAYS LATER.

These are only rumours at the moment, but I’m sure the anticipation of this film is getting all Bat fans pretty damn excited.

Ang Lee has signed on to direct BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN for Focus Features. The film, based on E. Annie Proulx's (THE SHIPPING NEWS) short story, focuses on a ranch hand and a rodeo cowboy that meet in the summer of 1961 and form a lifelong friendship. Proulx is writing the script with author Larry McMurtry (LONESOME DOVE).

Dabel Brothers Production is really aiming high. They have the rights to G. R. R Martins THE HEDGE KNIGHT, Tad Williams THE BURNING MAN, Robert Silverberg's THE SEVENTH SHRINE and Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman DRAGONLANCE: THE LEGEND OF HUMA. As well as all this they have their original comic LEGACY.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Soon we’ll be able to see what the future would be like if superhumans were the norm, along with monsters, aliens, supervillains and mad scientists. How you ask? Well, the comic book ASTRO CITY will soon be turned into a live action movie. The comic's creator/writer Kurt Busiek has teamed up with producer Ben Barenholtz and screenwriter Jonathan Alpers and acquired the film rights. Alpers is writing the script, but Busiek will be involved with the creative direction an input.
In an interview with the TORONTO STAR, actor Andy Serkis, the man behind LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWER’s scene-stealing CG character Gollum, alluded to his re-teaming with RINGS director Peter Jackson as the big ape in KING KONG. The article stated, “Serkis has an even bigger assignment ahead of him. Rumour has it he'll be the face of King Kong in Peter Jackson's planned 2005 remake of the legendary ape epic. ‘Ssssh!’ he says, giving another mischievous smile — and a thumbs-up gesture.” Only time will tell if this will pan out, but it creates an interesting new dimension to the world of cinema – digital acting superstars.
Despite middling ratings, Fox has picked up ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT (the best new comedy on television) for a full season. Fox says that (gasp!) they're actually willing to wait and give the show time to grow its audience. "We know it's going to take a while to grow -- it's a word-of-mouth kind of show," Fox entertainment president Gail Berman said. "I think it is the most inspired comedy to come along in years." To see if it would fit better in another time slot, Fox will begin airing episodes on different days of the week. Also, a four-episode marathon has been slated for December 31.
SEX and CURB will premiere on Sunday, January 4, 2004, while the fifth season of THE SOPRANOS will premiere on Sunday, March 7, 2004. This is the second half of the last season of SEX; it will only run eight more episodes.
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Michael Caine could be stepping into the formal wear of Alfred, Bruce Wayne's butler, for director Christopher Nolan in Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming installment in the "Batman" franchise.
Caine would join Christian Bale, who plays Wayne, the millionaire playboy by day who is the crime-fighting Caped Crusader by night. The script, which is kept tightly wrapped, has been written by Nolan and David Goyer.
This past week it was announced that Busiek, producer Ben Barenholtz and screenwriter Jonathan Alpers are developing the movie under their newly formed Panama Leo banner.
"It's the start of a long road," Busiek told The Continuum Sunday at Wizard World Texas. "Most movie projects don't happen, and we've gotten a lot further than most of them do. But until I'm in the cineplex eating popcorn and watching the movie ... there's a long way to go."
Busiek said he is developing a treatment for the film. Alpers will write the screenplay.
The announcement was a bit of a surprise considering Busiek had not expressed interest in developing the property as a film.
"The movie guys have come to me and I have said I'm not interested, and they go away," Busiek said. "These guys (Barenholtz and Alpers) wouldn't go away. They seemed to understand the property. It needs action, but the characters' story is paramount.
"So here we are."
Astro City is currently an independent production.
The Digital Bits had the rumor:
We've heard from a number of interesting (and we believe reliable) inside sources that Lucsafilm is currently making major new changes to the original Star Wars films - the kind of changes he began a few years ago with the theatrical "Special Edition" releases. These changes include new special effects, revised and updated shots and scenes, and new footage shot with actors Hayden Christensen (Anakin) and Ian McDiarmid (the Emperor) that would flesh out moments with their characters in the original films. For example, an aged and scarred Hayden now appears as Anakin at the end of Return of the Jedi when Luke removes Vader's helmet. Among the other changes reportedly being made are the restoration of the original "Han shoots first" moment from Star Wars and a revamped lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan and Vader. What we've heard meshes with what we've been told before, which is that Lucas has always planned to release ultimate, "Archive" editions of these films that tie in better with the new prequels. The main question in our minds now is this: will these changes be completed in time to appear on the DVD releases planned for next September, or will we have to wait until after Episode III hits theaters to see them? And if we have to wait, what versions will appear on the DVDs? Time will tell.[/b]
Keanu Reeves—who stars in Constantine, based on the DC/Vertigo comic series Hellblazer—told SCI FI Wire that his character is conflicted about his God-given mission on Earth. Constantine is entering its seventh week of principal photography in Los Angeles under director Francis Lawrence.
Reeves' character, supernatural detective John Constantine, is "a guy who's angry and ambivalent," Reeves said. "There's a line in it: 'God has a plan for all of us. Some people like it, and some people don't.' That's kind of my Constantinian take on it. Some people like it. John Constantine doesn't like it, but he likes it."
Reeves acknowledged that the character and the story are dark, but not so dark as to preclude delivering a piece of commercial entertainment. "Well, we're hoping to make a PG-13 film," he said. "I'm playing a character who is damned, and he's trying to escape hell. He goes to Gabriel [Tilda Swinton] and says, 'Come on, I'm taking demons out of little girls. Who's that for?' Gabriel says, 'Well, you don't believe.' I go, 'I believe, for Christ's sake!' He says, 'No, you don't. You know you don't have faith.' After that [encounter with Gabriel], you see my character with scratches on his back, and he's drinking some whiskey, and he's just made love with a demon. So we're trying to deliver a PG-13 film. My feet are on the floor by the bed, and she's under the covers." Warner Brothers will release Constantine, which also stars Rachel Weisz and Shia LeBeouf, in 2004.
