Sounds like the Heathen bible you're quoting there. Better watch your step around the other Knights . Wink

I guess Kiyone was an appropriate way to get in another link with the TV series casts as a link fans could go 'ooooooooooo an in the other series Kiyone was a GP officer!'

But isn't that picture of his Grandma? Because that's the woman in the first few episodes of the OVA when Ryoko is thinking of tiny tenchi in the hot tub, right?

I thought Tenchi's mother was Achika?

But Kiyone works as a tie to the AU series......

This was a big source of debate over at the AIC boards. Apparently, according to a Japanese fan who has access to all of Kajishima's doujinshi, novels and artbooks, his original plan was to have her name be Kiyone all along. When it came time to produce the Mihoshi special, producer Hiroki Hayashi and writer Naoko Hasegawa appropriated the name for Mihoshi's unfortunate partner.

That's being chalked up to a flubbed translation. It was supposed to be his mother all along.

Another Hasegawa invention, for her series of TM! novels (of which the second Tenchi movie, Manatsu no Eve is a part) and Tenchi Universe, where she was the head writer (and into which the TMIL movies are tied).

But she's apparently been replaced by the new girl that's going to move in with Tenchi and the gang.
The basic rule-of-thumb we're living with is, if Kajishima didn't have a direct hand in producing it, it isn't in continuity. Confused

AS I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted...*ahem, cough, hack, hack* ACHUM!

Tenchi 4:27
"When the fans saw this creature, the Mihoshi, they laughed at her foibles. Then the fans cried in sympathy for her mishaps. Then they cheered for her compassion."

Tenchi 4:28
"The fans then decreed, 'The Mihoshi is surely no fool, but a blonde and bronzed goddess!' And the fans rejoiced. So goes the formation of the Holy Order of KOME. And it was good!"

Well, in the first Tenchi movie (TV continuity), his mother shortened her life by releasing all her Juraian powers against an enemy they were facing. She died when he was really young (no more than 5 is my guess), and she looked a lot like the picture of "OVA Mom." Now, I don't know if in the OVA that's how she always looked, or maybe there's a reason like in the TV movie.

Amen. Laughing
As far as Kiyone's prematurely-aged appearance, I'm sure there's a story behind it. No idea what though.

Maybe Noboyuki is such a stressful man to live with that she prematurely grayed?

<-- I think that applies more to THIS Nobuyuki. Razz
All I know is Kajishima's not talking about it. It's like THE biggest secret in the whole story.

This "new image" thing must be weekly or something. Just a link this time, saves bandwidth.
Warning! Cute PG-13 content!

Chalk it up to technology. The new computer-aided drawing that all the animation studios have switched to makes it easier to produce art that good-looking, if proper care is taken during production.

And on an unrelated note, if my "Babelfishian-to-English" translation is correct Wink , we'll have the Kiyone mystery explained to us in OVA 3. Source: Mr. K's homepage, in the question & answer section.
