Well, except for one previously announced title- there has been a change of plans. Shocked

Bandai's press release wrote:

In early 2009, an all new English dub version [e.g. not ADV's- N.] will be released with Japanese audio and English subtitles with both a regular and special editions. From ANN:

The Japanese anime distributor Bandai Visual confirmed on Monday that it will start distributing popular anime on the Blu-ray Disc format throughout the world simultaneously this fall. The strategic shift will represent a new business model which attempts to solve the unauthorized distribution issue by doing away with regional differences in release dates and prices. It confirmed that the Freedom science-fiction anime series will be among the list of popular titles that will ship in staggered releases under this model. The discs will include subtitles in Japanese, English, and other languages.

Bandai Visual also confirmed that another Namco Bandai Group company, Bandai Channel, plans to sell downloads of its contents. Instead of streaming, the companies are aiming to sell downloads for specialized devices to protect their copyrighted materials.

Hopefully there will be standard DVDs along with the Blu-ray, but given Bandai Visual's history they may not.

And we now see what Funimation didn't pick up from ADV.

Source: ANN

The online retailer AnimeNation notes that the North American anime distributor ADV Films has discontinued the following titles:

* Best Student Council
* 5 Centimeters Per Second
* Innocent Venus
* Robotech

These titles are not among the 32 former ADV Films titles that another distributor, Funimation, announced it had picked up from Japan's ARM Corporation.

Publishers Weekly's The Beat blog reports that the North American publisher Tokyopop has cancelled the following volumes:

* Beyond the Beyond Volume 5
* Blazin' Barrels Volume 11
* Karma Club Volume 2
* Kat & Mouse Volume 4
* Kindaichi Case Files, The Burial Francs
* Lagoon Engine Volume 6
* Lagoon Engine Volume 7
* Nosatsu Junkie Volume 7
* Queen's Knight, The Volume 13
* Queen's Knight, The Volume 14
* Saver Volume 7

The Newsarama comics news website covers more details on the cancellation of Chuck Austen's Boys of Summer, one of the titles that Tokyopop had decided not to continue.

*****************************************************
Most of ADV's titles completed their release less than one year ago; 5 Centimeters Per Seconds has only been around for 4 months. Yet another reason why fans are pushing for larger releases, on the order of seasons or story arcs, instead of just a few episodes at a time.
