Gotenks? Finky-foo! He's too smug. I would want Gohan to win. When he came back with his amped up ability, THAT was a fun fight to watch.

Although, he did have the honor of killing Cell . . .

So Piccolo. I know, it's a REALLY long stretch. He's no where NEAR strong enough. But lets say he was. I'd love to see him kick Buu's ass. He's all confident and calm and its great watching him fight.

Why didn't Gohan just go super saiyan? He could have killed Buu easily before he absorbed Gotenks and Piccolo.

Because if he had, he would have destroyed the earth, at least according to one translation of the manga. The Mystic powerup from Old Kaioshin drew out all of Gohan's normal potential, giving him extraordinary power in his normal state. Think of shouting at the top of your lungs in a crowd as going Super Saiyajin. With the Mystic powerup, now have an electric megaphone, making your normal voice just as loud as your shout. If you screamed into the megaphone, you would blast out the eardrums of everyone around you, akin to Gohan going Super Saiyajin after the Mystic powerup.
Another explaination is that the powerup negated his ability to transform. Pick whichever version you like.

But the old Kai told Gohan "just do that super saiyan thing you always do". Vegito went super saiyan and he didn't destroy the earth.

yeah, thats a very good point! hmmm.... I bet gohan wanted buu to suffer just as he made the people of Earth suffer. (That's the mistake everyone makes) lol. so he didn't go super saiyan just yet. Confused

No, the Mystic power-up canceled out Gohan's ability to transform.

And GT shouldn't be considered because even though Gohan did go SSJ2, that series wasn't planned by Toriyama.

The old Kai hasn't been around since before Saya-jins existed. (75 million years ago, I think?) When Gohan got mad Old Kai (Rao Kaioshin, I think is his actual name) for goofing off during the ceremony, didn't you notice Gohan's eyes? They were Blue. Like a SSJ. But his hair wasn't blonde.

I see it this way. For starters, Rai Kaioshin could never predict what the hell the power up would do to the SSJ state. There are just too many unknowns. Second, when Goku first went SSJ, it was an ENORMOUS powerup. Its as if he went down a differnt path, like a shortcut. The powerup from Rai Kaioshin led Gohan down a third path. If he could have gone SSJ, he would have. He needed to at one point, no? He had the chance, no? Maybe it would have killed Dende and Mr. Satan, but there are still the Namekian Dragon Balls.

In short, I see it as Gohan being fused with his SSJ state. Like any other fusion, it not only combines the power, but amplifies it too.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

wel, then why would that power up effect his SSJ form? i mean, all the old kai do was awaken HIS sleeping powers. this confuses me...

The sleeping powers are the various transfomations. It's like fusing his SSJ state with his normal self. Think about it. It's not like Goku could transform from when he was a baby. And it's not like once you transform you stay that way forever.

Something else I just thought of, could Rai Kaioshin's upgrade also add some power from the Oozaru (big monkey) state? Thats like a 4th road that Saya-jins can take.

On a side note, anyone else thing it's really cool how SSJ3 Goku has pupils?

You know they were always going on about Gohan's hidden power for ages, all through Frieza, Cell and all that but as soon as Goten came along all that was out the window, and he was my favourite guy as well!

ok, lets end this mysic gohan discussion.. hmm.. what is everyones fav. sagas? i like the saiyan, frieza, cell games, and fusion (super buu) sagas. it's too hard to choose just one. and umm, that list is just in order of time of occurance.
