Post subject: Cartoon Network uses word that all the White Bois can't
In my local newspaper today there was a short article about how a new show, which follows the exploits of the tweenage Chris Rock growing up (side note: sounds like it could feasibly be a good show. I'm skeptical only because the only good sitcom to be made in the past 5 years has been Scrubs. (Fuck you reality TV.)), is going to air on CBS, and USE THE N-WORD.
Now, I mention this for two reasons. The first is that we recently had a discussion about this dreaded word, so I felt it appropriate to mention this. Now, if anyone can get away with saying it on Broadcast TV, it's Chris Rock. And according to the writer of the episode, to not use it would be more awkward than to use it. Kids are cruel. And this is about Chris Rock's life. So I say KUDOS to CBS for being bold, and I also express hope that this will somehow aid a long process of de-powering this word. (I would love to see all racial slurs simply de-powered. I already don't give a shit if I'm called a Cracker.)
But anyways, the second reason has to do with the Title of this thread. I mean, what does Cartoon Network have to do with CBS? They aren't even owned by the same media conglomerate (CBS - Viacom, CN - Turner.)
Well, it turns out that two cable networks are going to be using the N-word, too. There will be some show on FX that will do it. And also, The Boondocks, on Adult Swim, will use the N-word as well.
This surprises me for two reasons. First, this is a new step for Adult Swim. They've aired middle fingers, buckets of blood, more sexual situations than I ask for, and now they tread the mark of racial slur?
The second reason this surprises me is HOW THE HELL DID I NOT HEAR THIS FIRST ON THIS DAMN BOARD?!?!?!
Seriously, I was pissed that I had to hear this from my newspaper, which is usually weeks or months behind on "trends" and whatnot that appeal to my demographic (The 18-24 year old male. The single hardest group to market to. And we're proud of that. But it doesn't make it easy to GET what we want when no one knows that to GIVE. Including my damn newspaper.)
Seriously, I blame Nobu and Daikun. And Bono for good measure. And half of FDD for absolutely no reason.

So, you're blaming me before you blame you yourself.
Hell, I don't even have contributor status, let alone mod or new monkey.
I bear no responsibility for this.
Besides, do you know when the last time I watched either [AS] or Toonami was? _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

I've been blaming everything on Bono since the first day I meant him. World Hunder = Bono, All War's Ever = Bono, Madonna = Bono, 9/11 = Bono, Me not having a sandwich right now = Bono. _________________ -Ixidor

If it's not that bad, then home come if I called someone it I'd get shot?
And it's ALWAYS Bono's fault that we don't all have sandwiches.
And yes FDD, half your fault. Don't get mad at me, I don't make the rules. It's just that way for some reason. _________________ anime is teh s uck

The newspaper is incorrect. It's not CBS getting the show, but UPN (damn that channel).

Eh, UPN sucks. Odd you should update this now though, as my local paper had an article on the Boondocks today. If it's correct, that Word shall be used in the first episode on October 2nd. And the animation screen shots I've seen look STELLAR. I'll have ot wait to see how they look in motion, but this looks to be far and above anything we've EVER seen fromm an Adult Swim original. Also, according to the article, Adult Swim PWNS the 18-34 year old male crowd, by FAR, for the entire 6 hours that it airs. As in Letterman and Leno are getting none of them. AS just pwns.
And I have high hopes for the Boondocks. I've always liked the comic strip. Don't get to read it that often, but when I do, I like the style and the content. _________________ anime is teh s uck

Comic strip about black kids. By a black guy. Uses the word nigger.
I'm not real clear on how offensive that is. Or on why that one word holds the taboo torch so steadfast.
