am i the only one that thinks an award for a game that isn't even out yet (most anticipated) seems a bit off? not to mention that "best performance by a human" seems to limit nominees to celebrities known better in other areas of the media...

even though i haven't played most of the games released this year, i guess this would be my ballot:

Game of the Year - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Best Sports Game - Tony Hawk's Underground
Best Action Game - [blank] (haven't played any of 'em...)
Best Animation - Warcraft III: Frozen Throne (open ballot vote would be for Zelda: Wind Waker)
Best Game Based on Movie - Enter the Matrix
Best Driving Game - [blank] (same reason)
Best Music: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Best Performance By A Human - Ray Liotta
Most Anticipated - Stupid...
Most Addictive - Soul Calibur II
Best PC Game - Warcraft III: Frozen Throne
Best Online Game - Final Fantasy XI
Best Handheld Game - Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Best Fighting Game - Def Jam Vendetta
Best First Person Action - Halo: Combat Evolved
Best Fantasy Game(s) - .hack...er, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

You really hit it spot on with both of those observations. The celebrities tend, at least at the moment, to get the high profile VA work on vg's. voice acting in cartoons has only recently (by that you have to thank teh simpsons) become accepted by the hollywood elite and in such-- society. With video games becoming more and more popular you will see doing VA work for a vg become more accepted and popular.

That doesn't look like a very accurate survey of what games are actually good, though. Notice that besides GBA games there are what, 2 games for a Nintendo platform. Where the hell is Wind Waker for best game? Where's Viewtiful Joe for action. These people wouldn't know quality gaming if they were stuck in a room with nothing but video games for a year.

This is a pop culture award. By SPIKE TV. The same people that thought Ren and Stimpy would be better with more fart jokes and less creativity.

Speaking of video games, what should I get for my GC this year? I'm thinking Sould Caliber and Viewtiful Joe. Assuming the limit is 3 games, what should I ask for?

F-Zero GX. It's amazing. Imagine if they'd made pod racer fun, and with better graphics, it was 4 players, AND you could see more than 50 feet ahead of you. Now make it towhere you don't die and lose the race for barely bumping into the side, add some skill level depth, and there you have it. And of course, Metroid Prime and Wind Waker, if you don't already have them).

Wind Waker should definately replace Madden 2004 on the game of the year option. Vice city does take the cake though.

Get Wind Waker CP, you won't regret it. Metroid Prime is rentable.

Def Jam Vendetta shouldn't be in there at all.

Most anticipated game will be very controvertial because Half-Life 2 and Halo 2, Snake Eater, and GT4 are on level so anything they say will probably inaccurate. Thoush I predict Half-Life 2 will win because of the whole controversy that happend with the code being leaked ad the beta stuff.
more to come...

peace

I HAVE Wind Waker and Metroid Prime. Wind Waker was WAY too easy (the only boss that gave me a hard time was Ganondorf, and even then I never died) and there were only 6 dungeons. That's just crap. There should be at least 10. Don't get me wrong, it was a great game, but it could have been better.

And Metroid Prime? Um, there was something wrong with that too, what was it . . . that's right. Too much travel. It took forever to get from A to B then to C through B and A.

I'm a perfectionist, and I say that the best game in all of existence is Bubble Bobble. Addictive little mofo . . .

You'd take BB over Tetris?

I consider Tetris the best electronic related form of entertainment ever.

Indeed I would. BB is one giant, 99 level (112 level, if you want to get technical and include bonus levels (which I got to on my NES when I was 8, without anyone telling me about them)) acid trip. You're a dinosaur, that blows bubbles at your enemies, and it actually DEFEATS them. And the items? A tiara that causes fire to rain down on your enemies? A cross that lets you spit fire, and one that fills the screen with water? You don't get any better than that . . .

Why the hell is GTA:VC on the best animation list?!?

The graphics in the game are out-dated...
Wind-Waker and Joe belongs in so many categories...
Metroid Prime? Huh where is it?

I smell a big commerical...
