eek, prepare to spend ALOT of money for DVDs of Kenshin.. the series is rather long.. around 90 eps i believe.
Anyway.. I agree with CC, the show was meant to be in japanese.. it's historical.. it just doesn't make sense for it to be in english.
It's like putting a show about the revolutionary war in japanese, it's just.. weird and doesn't fit.

but you know what, if the revolutionary war movie was being seen in japan I wouldn't mind it being dubbed into japanese. just as the japanese more than damn likely don't mind kenshin being dubbed into english. at least the revolutionary war really happened; Kenshin did not- it just happens to be set in that time period. It's just like the movie The Patriot, those events didn't happen, it just took place in a real time period and they tried to be fairly accurate about it. I'm sure THAT movie has been dubbed into japanese. Absolutly no difference there except one is animated one is not. So get off your big fat stupid high horse about a fucking cartoon being dubbed to the rest of us can understand it. _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

Now now, no reason to get mad because other people have different opinions.

I'm so gald I never watched subbed. It allows me to actually ENJOY the shows on TV. Silly otaku, mainstream anime is a GOOD thing any way you slice it. _________________ anime is teh s uck

Spook has a point or two.
Dubbing goes both ways. I have "The Matrix" R2 DVD with the Japanese and English audio tracks. The Japanese dub is in the area of interesting to funny.
My point is that we dub Japanese stuff and the Japanese dub our stuff. So do you think most Japanese people want to watch our movies subtitled, or voiced in their own language? Me thinks they go for dubs. _________________ "Robots don't say 'ye'."

I just read the last 2 pages so bear with me here. Dubbing isn't that bad, I mean the 'Majority' of people can uderstand it....
I've seen...and Chon has seen...EVERY single thing that has anything remotley related to Kenshin....if anyone has any questions just ask us, that is if we start coming here like I used to...sorry bout that.
What do you thinkg the best fight is or will be, I don't want to say what I think because it might spoil it for the rest of you people, but I will say it anyway becaue it won't spoil that much Kenshin vs. Saito...or however you spell it
Sorry for not being here more often, been kind busy. _________________ I am God reincarnate.....treat me like it.

I agree with that somewhat...But some Dubbing...is to painful to watch. I wouldn't call people who like subtiltes otaku, unless they filp out whenever you mention you watched it Dubbed. So Ph33r I take it you saw the New OVA then? I saw the 1st part and have to say it's a bit strange. It could be that I haven't seen all of Kenshin but everything in Seisouhen seems out of place. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." - Calvin

from what i've heard, the creator had little to nothing to do with the new ova, so it may not really be the actual ending he had in mind...anyone know more about this?
oh, and now i'm hearing of something called "character specials" relating to the series...anyone know anything about this/these, and if they'll be or have been released here? _________________ "Life's a journey, not a destination..." -Aerosmith ('Amazing')

Seisouhen is VERY confusing in the beginning, Its all about flash backs, And yes jjc is right the original creator had nothing to do with the new series. The 2nd part of Seisouhen will fill some of the confusion for you because it did for me, but its also pretty depressing to. And it is still confusing.
I have not heard anything about the character specials, but I know someone who should know about, I'll get back to you on it.
I seriosly don't like the drawings in Seisohen, and I think you need to read the manga version of Ruroini Kenshin to get a better idea of whats happening in Seisouhen because I think they introduce some other characters that are in Seisouhen in the manga, such as Enishi. You saw Enishi in Samurai X trust/betrayal, but thats the last you see of him in the series until Seiesouhen.I've never read any of the Manga, so I don't exactly know, I just heard about it. All I know is that the manga goes farther in the Kenshin then the TV series does.
I hope my explination wasn't to confusing, because when I try and explain stuff, it always turns out confusing. _________________ I am God reincarnate.....treat me like it.

Since when does like liking subs make me an otaku?
I'm not an otaku..eek. You guys DO realize otaku is an insult.. anyway.. I just prefer it subbed, I can't stand watching some of my fav animes, like Inuyasha, dubbed. It's just painful..
Yea, I'm sure japanese people have seen things from the states or elsewhere dubbed, but they probably make fun of the dubbing jsut as much as we do.. I mean come on who HASN'T made fun of the dubbings on Jackie Chan movies?
Anime is easier to dub, considering theirs not as much mouth movement in animated shows. ALthough some animes have had a good transition from japanese to english, there is alot that haven't.. It may be just me.. but I can't stand when in dubs that they have to talk REALLY fast (or slow) to fit their line in, plus many times their don't even get the emotions right, and alot of times the lines are actually changed.
I don't see what you guys have against subs, so what if you have to do a little reading? It doesn't really distract you from whats going on.. oh well.

so for the first 5 episodes, are they going accordingly to the japanese version like story-wise,not cut-scenes?

Actually anime is difficult to dub, worse than live action as there are less mouth flaps to allow for more words. That' why they change the lines; to fit the mouth movements. if in japanese whatever they say translates to "ho ho you are not of teh smartest persuassion are my young little friend hahah I feel much pity for all those you have to deal with throguhout the day" but he says all that in about 6 word flaps they sure as shit are going to change that to something like "ha, moron, I feel sorry for you" the translation doesnt matter, it's the meaning behind the words that does.
you are an otaku if you can't stand watching a fairly good dub like inu yasha without feeling pain. I have yet to hear any voice that is obcienly wrong, none of the voices direction are far off, and all the emotions are there whent hey need to be.
We're not against subs, at least I'm not. I'm against people who are willing to dismiss dubbs almost automaticly just because they aren't the original japanese. Look at Vampire Hunter D: BLoodlust as an example people were getting pissed off that the dvd didn't have the "japanese dialogue track" when in fact it never exsisted. They were complaining for no other reason than it was in english and they couldn't hear it in japanese; a language that the movie had never been intended to be dubbed into. _________________ "Veni. I'm against people who can't enjoy a perfectly good dub. Like I said before, there IS a benefit to having never seen the original: I can enjoy the edited dub a great deal more than you. And it doesn't cost me a cent. ^_^ _________________ anime is teh s uck

Ok, Sanosuke sounded like crap, they changed his personality, at times he would be polite where Sano was never polite. The same with yahiko. In episode 4, he said; 'I'm sorry for interupting..' he never said I'm sorry. Listen, enjoy it, but please check out the sub if you ever get the chance. You will not regret it, and then you will all understand. I can respect the way of thinking where someone hasn't seen the sub, but with all due respect, IN MY OPINION.. just to say it is just my opinion, that opinion is disgracing the original piece of artwork. That is like taking the Mona Lisa, putting her in modern clothes and showing her to someone who never saw the original. The artist would be disgraced...wow I can't talk to make any sense today....blahh
