hey!
i'm kinda new here and i'd like to ask a few questions (especially to the admins and the mods):

1. does anyone here know/like the series Love Hina?
2. if you do, did you like the manga, or the anime better?
3. does anyone here know/like J-Pop?
4. has anyone ever heard of Gundam Seed?
5. if you have, how many dvds/mangas do you have (if any)?

that's all for now, hehe

A) This isn't quite the place for this,
B)does it matter if the admins/mods like it?
C)There is a whole thread on Gundam Seed
D)J Pop is a beloved of some of quite a few people here
E) I'm sure a bunch of people here have seen Love Hina or read it, but i have no idea
F) I being a mod don't even have Cartoon Network anymore, and that was my entire anime source, so no I know nothing of these things, try the animtion, or semi anime related babble discussion area

would the pillows really be considered J-Pop? They seem more punk to me...

BTW, the third DVD of FLCL contains the pillows' music video to "Ride on Shooting Star"... Anyone else seen that yet?

1. only seen a few eps of Love Hina, not enough for an opinion
2. I don't read manga and anime is way overrated.
3. I have yet to hear aything good.
4. Gundam blows in my opinion.
5. I have about 200-300 comics (screw manga) and about 100-200 animated movies/shows on dvd (screw just anime).

Who'd have thought I would end up a mod here? Pretty funny actually. I'm probably the closest thing to anti-anime this board has had or ever will.

That's why you're needed, as a balancing force. Wink

As for the questions:

1) yes
2) manga
3) know? yes
4) yes
5) like Spookmonkey, 100-200 DVD's (unlike Spooky, they're primarily Anime) and at least 2000-3000 (haven't bothered counting in all of 17 years) comics, manga, graphic novels, (insert your own marketing term for what's basically the same thing), etc. Wink

not very many comics interest me any more, it's kind of sad really. but thats what I get for leaving the culture for almost a decade.

I forgot to add that I probably have at least 200 more vhs tapes filled with animation. (I have well over 400 dvds and beyond 2000 vhs).

Spook why did you even join up here? was it because of the non-anime programs of Toonami that interested you?

And if you haven't heard any good Jpop before it would be cool if you listened to a song called 'Sarubia no Hana'. I only have a live version of it sung at a Folk Songs concert but it's not very long but very pretty. It's performed with just a guitar and two singers Smile

It's your choice though ^_~

Same here... I just finally started getting into the New X-Men series again after abandoning nearly every X-related comic after age 13... Nowadays, if and when I buy comics (which varies between "somewhat frequently" to "very rarely"), I usually buy manga and independent american comics (like the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation comics)... the only "mainstream" American comics I buy these days are stuff from Vertigo (like Transmetropolitan) or, like I said earlier, some of the New X-Men stuff...

You gotta admit, American comics nearly killed themselves in the 90's with the whole "boom" that occured... once upon a time I read Spawn almost religiously. Now, I haven't picked up a new Spawn comic in like six years...

..and I've yet to pick up any of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, even though I have a nice collection of really old Ninja Turtle comics by Mirage Studios from the 80's...

it's tough to be a fan of american comics these days...

I gotta say, my opinion on animation is failry close to Spooks. Anime is not 'better' than American animation. It's a different style of the same art form. I appreciate good animation, and action, and comedy. Hence, I am drawn to things like DBZ (action), DB (comedy), and Spirited Away (animation.) But for hte same reasons I'm drawn to the likes of Batman Beyond, Teen Titans (yes I like that show. I think it's all around good quality), Beast Wars, Captain Simion and the Space Monkeys, the new TMNT cartoon, and the list goes on and on.

But again, anime is not 'better', and it bothers me anytime anyone insists that it is. And I think Doug is at the very least SORT of close to us too in that he doens't IDOLIZE all things Japanese. So 3 of the 4 mods are as anti-anime as you can get on a Toonami board. That's really funny.
