Acording to the commercials I saw on CN, this DBZ airing would be the "uncut" episodes. That should mean that they should be exactly like they are on DVDs, but I don't think that will ever happen on a channel which little children watch, no matter what time they are going to show it.

*Edit* Don't forget to watch DBZ tonight at 10.30 PM

Last night was awesome. Now I have not seen the DVD's, but I did not recall seeing parts of that first episode. Now granted I have not seen the early DBZ episodes in about five years, time could have erased my memory. I thought the intro music was well done, and enjoyed it all. I also heard on one of the Cartoon Network promos that they were giving us 67 uncut episodes. That would take us up to the Captain Gunyu Saga. Cartoon Network has done a good thing, for once.

If someone could comment, are these episodes exactly like the DVD's? Just curious, because I was thinking of buying the DVD's. If they are the same though, my cheap ass could save some $$$.

It's nice to see these old episodes again. Back from when DBZ was good.

We get to see whiney Gohan again.

I will be doing two counters for these episodes:

How many times character A blasts character B, we see a dust cloud, character A thinks "I got him", the dust clears and character B is still there.

and

How many times Gohan says "Mr. Piccolo!"

So far it's 1 and 0...

And I doubt it will be uncut. Let's just see if we still get HFIL later.

As authentic as it was, it probably wasn't actiony enough to hold the 6-11 kids' attention.

I am hoping that the DBGT crowd is staying around to "check this out" and the ratings are getting a boost from us DBZ fans. I started being a fan around the time the Majin Buu saga started on Cartoon Network, so I had to go back and piece together the beginning episodes. These first episodes I have not seen all of them. I am looking forward to this. Especially if they include some stuff they never had before.

I still have not heard anyone tell me if there is any footage on the DVD's that is not airing on Cartoon Network. From what I hear, so far they are showing the unedited DVD version. Once the fighting starts, I guess we will know for sure.

The reason no one has answered you, Imadad, is because we don't yet know. We'll begin to get some insight around when Goku and Raditz die. If they show it all, then there's a good chance nothing will be cut. Neato that we get a signal that early on, no?

Now this is the DBZ I was raised on. For any who have not seen these episodes I pity you, for they are the foundation for every saga that came afterward. The originality died out shortly after the arrival of Trunks and was completely gone after Cell. Most consider Majin Buu to be a final breath, agonizing breath for Z that leads to the miserably tacky and cookie-cutter GT. The problem the later sagas faced is that they had already turned everyone into Ultra-Mega-Industrial Strength Super-Beings and couldn't find anymore reasonable, Japanese folklore induced, ways of making them even more powerful. So they just created Gods that ruled over Gods that Ruled over more gods, it was pathetic and trite.

Saiyan Saga is by far my all time favorite. The animation is raw and brutal, the characters don't quite feel as typecasted to "have the exact same reaction to every situation" and they actually show growth beyond just power level. Here, they all start out as mearly above-average fighters human/saiyan/namek ext. who take their first steps toward greatness. All the minor characters have some semblance of a purpose. Goku's travel on snake way, Gohan's training, and the introduction of DBZ's most dynamic character, Vegeta, are all here.

You will love these episodes or I'll beat you with a senzu bean.
Enjoy it while you can

It should be mentioned, for those that don't know, that Akira Toriyama, the creater of the Dragon Ball universe, wanted ot stop Z after the Frieza saga. That was supposed to be the final saga. You can tell, too. I mean, once you're told that, you can see the elements of completion. Frieza was the strongest thing in the universe. After that they had to resort to creating strong (the genetically peiced together Cell) and reviving strong from millions of years ago (Buu).

Why wasn't the Frieza Saga the final saga, then? Toriyama recieved SO MUCH FAN RESPONSE begging him not to stop. So we went in to the Cell Saga, in which Toriyama wished to shift focus to Gohan, and make me the main character of the series.

Fans didn't like that one.

So Toriyama made a super drawn out, convoluted, non sensical final arc, in which Gohan was totally nerfed. Thus, the crappy Buu saga. The only highlight is the fight between Goku and Majin Vegita (that was a good fight. DAMN that was a good fight.)

These first few episodes make so much more sense now that I've seen Dragon Ball, by the way. But I don't remember when Roshi died . . . they should have showed Dragon Ball leading up to these episodes . . .

Yea, I didn't remember when Roshi died either. When Goku said that Krillin and Roshi couldn't be wished back again, I was like... eh? Thinking back, I still don't remember when he died. Anyone?

My memory of events from Dragonball is fading, but let's see...

I thought Roshi died after trying to seal King Piccolo in the jar. If I remember correctly, that evil containment wave zapped the last of his strength / life energy.

I do remember the Toonami custom intro for the King Piccolo saga where Roshi says, "We will, survive." Then he collapses. I'm just not sure if the evil containment wave did him in, or if King Piccolo killed him afterwards.
