Agreed. We can already celebrate our nation's independence in July. Is there really a need for another day?

-_- '

If there had been anything patriotic about the events of Sept. 11, 2001, I would feel differently. But there aren't, and there's no reason to label it as such.

it was a sad occurance. people will forget everything, as for the reasons of memorial day and labor day. to them it is a day off work that is all. people don't take the time to think about those sad events they enjoy the present freedoms

Come to think of it, why DO they call the day off "Labor Day"? Labor IS work.

According to the U.S. Dept. of Labor:
Quote:
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

If that's the case, then shouldn't people be working instead of taking the day off?

That's the thing that gets me. Labor is work, and people aren't laboring on Labor Day. Instead, they're slacking off on the couch or taking their families on vacation.

It's praising the people who work. The people who work most likey don't want to. Labor Day is how they thank them.

They make it a big deal at where I live (Near Ft. Stewart, no good entry being closed at Cool. For the last 2 years (which it's been), they always have a type of ceremony to talking about it and that's it. Darn thing wasted 30 min. of Web page.
