It looks like it would cost more than a mod chip.
Also, that avatar. Ugh. |

I just bought an xbox for my bro two days ago. I would like to try putting linux on the system. Only the directions are so vague about loading "saved game information" with a usb device......and pardon me? but where the hell is the USB ports on the XBOX!?!?
Oh and then I would have to rent the game and install linux. Its almost too much hastle. But still I might just try it when Im not too lazy. |

Those four ports you plug the controllers into are the USB ports.
They just have custom connectors so you can't go sticking any USB device under the sun into your Xbox. _________________ "Robots don't say 'ye'."

Sounds fun, But those are not USB ports. Period. You CAN add USB 2.0 ports to your x-box, though lots of modding. My X-bOx is currently in the process of being case-modded. _________________ -Ixidor |

| The instructions were so much better on the show. The USB port is off of the Phantasy Star I/II keyboard adapter that fits into what I believe is the memory card slot on the Xbox controller. If you call microsoft and ask for one, all you have to pay is shipping. Now, once you have that you need a USB thumb drive large enough to hold the Mechassault save crack that will allow you to run linux on the XBOX. In the "load save games" area of the Mechassault menu, you will then notice a new save file called "Run Linux". |

| Screw it. I'll just get a mod chip and 120GB hard drive. Bam! |

I think Beefy may be right...kinda. The controller ports do have four contact strips just like a USB port. And if you think about it, when you plug a controller in....it recognizes just like USB devices do. |
