I missed the original pilot last year, but this show was goddamn brilliant!
As everyone has said before, the show has a perfect mix of comedy and action, as well as great references to DDR and MTV. I also thought the animation style was great; both the characters and the mecha.

Btw, did anyone else notice that MEGAS's original head looked eerily similar to optimus prime's?

I thought that Megas XLR was !@#$ funny except for the last episode with the robot spider. Besides that the show is funny and with the nice touch of gundam thrown in. "Chicks dig giant robots"

Gundam?

Nah, if anything it takes more from Macross, but even that's a stretch. I guess if you wanted to use the staple of the unknowing civilian piloting a prototype military weapon, but outside of that not really. The only things seeminly anime are a few of the characters designs and some inside jokes. Everything else is pretty american style, yet really well done. If you didn't catch the tournament episode that is a classic staple of american comics if there ever was one. Not to mention Bruce Campell as that Marvel Villain dude.

This is such a great show. Having built a robot, I love the constant Chicks Dig Giant Robots lines.

And as far as the ratings announcment on the TI frontpage, isn't 2.5 in any group higher than usual for Cartoon Network? I seem to remember DBZ peaking at 2.1 a few days a year.

1. Really? I thought it was just a toaster.

2. Domon Kashu is a poor example of a Gundam charactre and second of all he's from G Gundam not Mobile Suit Gundam.

3.Almost all Mech shows have outerspace fighting, Macross even moreso than Gundam

4. Using a computer to pilot a robot? Name a robot that doesn't use a computer to pilot it.

5. Eh, true.

There are things to inspire the series outside Gundam than in. Here are a few examples for each point.

1. Battletech, Macross, Voltron, Transformers, Big Guy y Rusty... not everything has to be Gundam inspired even if Gundam did come before some of those examples.

2. Anakin Skywalker, Han Solo, Tom Cruise, The unified Voltron Lions, and 10 bucks says there is a half dozen more that can be named.

3. just about any Sci-Fi anything. Did you know Flash Gorden has space fighting?

4. So are you saying that airplanes that have autopilot are ripping Gundam off?

5. coughLightsaberscough, Voltron (it was energy turned solid so mlah)

Gundam is a better thing to connect Megas XLR with. "Battletech, Macross, Voltron, Transformers, Big Guy y Rusty" are true and all but everyone here knows Mobile Suit Gundam shows and would say tha they are better.
Domon Kasshu was from MOBILE SUIT G Gundam and would kick the @$$ of any the other Gundam pilots. Domon used his suit to control his robot, not a computer or keyboard.
"Anakin Skywalker, Han Solo, Tom Cruise" never piloted giant robots only spaceships...they don't count.
ANYWAY...I was just saying that Megas XLR was awesome and it reminded by of a Gundam show. I was just trying to write what I was thinking before you got all big headed with your info on anime and robots.

Not everyone would say that at all...that's why your grammer textbook says, "Never use absolutes when composing an argumentative statement". Wink

If you guys are going to waste time arguing over nitpicks, it's "Mobile FIGHTER G Gundam". Wink

That statement alone would have been sufficient.

Now let's all sit back and enjoy the show, for whatever reason (Rock-em Sock-em giant robots!). Cool

Your right its Mobile Fighter G Gundam
but I still think Gundam is better than any of those other shows
I always stand behind my words no matter how obsurd or stubborn it sounds.

Lol, last night's ep was a perfect insult and parody to G-force to all those combining robot shows. Gotta love the penetration ^_^

after missing out on the last two weeks, i finally got to see last night's episodes, and i see the show is just as good...

the slushie episode was great (the jab on hoboken was nice), but the g-force spoof was genius, not to mention the setting of atlantic city (about fifteen minutes from where i live)...the building labeled "Chump's Castle" got the biggest laugh outta me, and though i could bring up the fact that trump's castle hasn't been around in years, i think i'll let it slide...

my goal now is to get everyone i know to watch at least one episode of this show...the jersey subtleties alone should be enough for those who don't care for animation to at least chuckle...
