Comedy Central has named the two new hosts for the fifth season of THE MAN SHOW: Joe Rogan (FEAR FACTOR) and Doug Stanhope. The pair will take over for Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel, who have already taped the upcoming fourth season. Taping will begin this summer on the fifth season and will air 3rd quarter 2003. "Joe Rogan is a perfect fit to take over the reins of THE MAN SHOW, as he's truly one of the guys," says Lauren Corrao, senior vice president original programming and head of development for Comedy Central. "For those who may be unfamiliar Doug Stanhope, they're going to find out what our viewers already know - he's brutally honest, outrageously opinionated and one of the funniest comedians working today." _________________ "Veni. So, with "Daredevil" seeking to maintain the Marvel momentum - and perhaps even expand upon it (both Arad and Johnson have already discussed "Daredevil 2" and a solo "Elektra" flick for Jennifer Garner) - here's the lowdown on the other Marvel movies coming your way:
"X-Men 2" (May 2, 2003) - In what is reportedly being labeled as the X-Men's "Empire Strikes Back," the story revolves around Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) searching for answers to his identity while the X-Men battle the Stryker Crusade, a movement intent on wiping out mutants everywhere. Most of the original players return, and they're joined by Alan Cumming's mysterious Nightcrawler, Kelly Hu's sexy Lady Deathstrike and Brian Fox's formidable General Stryker. Ray Park's Toad and Tyler Mane's Sabretooth are absent. The franchise, however, is considered so healthy that Mane has reportedly signed a contract to appear in the next two sequels.
As if that weren't enough, a "Wolverine" solo film starring Jackman may be coming.
"Making a movie about his origin and letting him figure out who he is may be [a] real interesting movie," said Arad.
And arguably the most bankable actress in Hollywood is in this movie. Might Halle Berry be soaring in a "Storm" solo film soon?
"Absolutely," said Arad. "It could be very interesting."
"The Hulk" (June 20, 2003) - According to Arad, Eric Bana (Bruce Banner) and Jennifer Connelly (Betty Ross) will co-star with "the most amazing CGI done in a movie to date" in Ang Lee's epic.
"Spider-Man II" (May 2004) - Reportedly, the story has Peter and Mary Jane dealing with college. While Arad would not reveal the villain, he said speculation that it will be classic Spidey foe Doctor Octopus was "in the ballpark" and that there will almost definitely be only one main villain, not two as some have speculated.
"Blade III" (2004) - This installment of the vampire hunter's never-ending battle is probably the last go-round for star Wesley Snipes. He's been itching to play the title role in a movie version of the Marvel hero "Black Panther."
Other Marvel movies looking at a possible 2004 release include "The Punisher" (possibly starring the Rock), "Ghost Rider" (possibly starring Nicolas Cage), "The Fantastic Four" and "Deathlok."
Other projects in "active development" according to Arad are "Sub Mariner," "Iron Man," "Man-Thing," "Shang-Chi," and "Iron Fist" (possibly starring Ray Park).
So it appears that Marvel movies will dominate cineplexes the next few years.
"That's the idea," Arad said. "To take over Hollywood." _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

IGN FilmForce learned earlier this week that the dream choice to portray the title of role Tony Stark in Iron Man is none other than... Leonardo DiCaprio. We held off on reporting this because, by all accounts, the young Oscar-nominee has NOT been offered the role... yet. He is simply at the top of the filmmakers' wish list, according to our sources. Marvel Entertainment honcho Avi Arad almost revealed as much to Ain't It Cool News today so that's why IGN FilmForce has decided to go ahead and report what we know.
So what is it about Leo that makes the powers-that-be think he is The Armored Avenger? Unlike Batman or Daredevil, it's not about who looks good in the suit since you'll never see Iron Man's face anyway. What matters is who portrays Tony Stark, the dashing yet vulnerable billionaire industrialist who becomes Iron Man. Whomever plays this role must be believable as a playboy, an astute businessman and someone whose (physical and mental) health is off enough to warrant putting on a suit of armor to fight crime.
With Leo poised to portray the eccentric billionaire industrialist Howard Hughes in The Aviator, he should be able to easily slip into the character of Tony Stark... once the script is written and the role is offered to him.
Iron Man is in development at New Line Cinema for a 2005 release. Smallville's Alfred Gough & Miles Millar will write the screenplay with Angry Films producing. No director has been hired yet. _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

A fire broke out Feb. 22 on the set of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban near a railway bridge in Scotland, according to the Associated Press. No injuries were reported, but production on the film was shut down and local residents were evacuated before the 100-acre blaze was extinguished by firefighters.
A scene featuring the Hogwarts Express train was being filmed when fire broke out. It is unknown when production will resume.

The Chosen One has finally made her decision: Sarah Michelle Gellar will exit Buffy the Vampire Slayerat the end of the season, TV Guide Online has learned. Although UPN and 20th Century Fox declined to comment, sources confirm that the 25-year-old actress whose Buffy contract expires in May is leaving the cult-classic series to pursue her film career full time.
Talk of Gellar's probable Buffy departure has been gathering steam for months. Adding fuel to the fire: the recent announcement that the Scooby-Doo star will begin shooting the feature Romantic Comedy in August, around the time she would have been returning to work on a new season of Buffy. As one Gellar confidante puts it, "You do the math."
And if Buffy fans think that bites, there's more bad news. That rumored spinoff starring Eliza Dushku, who plays Buffy's rival slayer Faith, is now occupying a plot at the Sunnydale Cemetery. Dushku, who had apparently been knee-deep in discussions to succeed Gellar in a Buffy offshoot, has instead signed on to headline the Fox pilot Heroine.
Still, not all hope is lost. As Buffy creator Joss Whedon, a Dushku-led series is "one of many" possibilities he's considering. Among the others: a show revolving around Buffy's kid sister Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) or sidekick Willow (Alyson Hannigan).
Incidentally, during an interview with TV Guide Online last year, Gellar said she believes Buffy could and should forge ahead, even if that means anointing a new Slayer. "Absolutely," she offered. "I don't know if it would be Buffy the Vampire Slayer per se, because you kind of need Buffy for that. But it doesn't mean that there's not Dawn and [reformed vengeance demon] Anya. There are a lot of characters that could easily go on, and I'd hope that they would."
The silver lining in the clouds for Buffy fans? Gellar's swan song will reunite her with TV soulmate David Boreanaz. As TV Guide Online reported earlier this month, the Angel leading man has agreed to cross over to his old haunt in May, so that the do-gooder vamp can bid farewell to his Chosen One at the same time as we do ours.

Sci Fi Wire is reporting that Nicolas Cage (WINDTALKERS) is in training to star as Namor the Sub-Mariner in the upcoming film adaption of the classic Marvel Comics character. Apparently Cage was overheard telling his trainer that he was training for the film.

20th Century Fox has announced official plans to make sequel to the hit movie DAREDEVIL, as well as a spinoff based on the character of Elektra. Jennifer Garner, who played Elektra in Daredevil, will star in the spinoff, picking up from where character's story left off in DAREDEVIL. Garner will also play Elektra in DAREDEVIL 2.

Marvel Comics has filed a lawsuit against Sony Pictures Entertainment, the makers of last year's SPIDER-MAN, based on the Marvel character. The dispute is apparently over a licensing agreement between the two over SPIDER-MAN. "The complaint is not an attempt to stop production of the SPIDER-MAN sequel slated for May 2004, nor is it an attempt to change or upset any of the merchandising/licensing deals that are in place for the sequel," Marvel said in a statement. Sony refused to comment.

I couldn't think of anywere else to put this:
Metallica has finally named a permanent replacement on bass, after long time bassist Jason Newsted left. Robert Trujillo, of Suicidal Tendencies and Ozzy Osbourne, will fill the slot. "I must say Ozzy, Sharon, Zakk Wylde, Mike Bordin, all the team and family members mean the world to me," said Trujillo. "Love and respect, my family 100 percent. I am very stoked, excited, and look forward to my new journey with my Metallica brothers." _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

PITTSBURGH - Fred Rogers, who gently invited millions of children to be his neighbor as host of the public television show "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" for more than 30 years, died of cancer early Thursday. He was 74.
Rogers died at his Pittsburgh home, said family spokesman David Newell, who played Mr. McFeely on the show. Rogers had been diagnosed with stomach cancer sometime after the holidays, Newell said.

According to Warner Bros., Josh Hartnett has passed on the chance to play Superman in whatever sequel is coming. Warner has announced that their next three top choices are Brendan Frasier, Paul Walker and Matthew Bomer (ALL MY CHILDREN). Screen test deals are currently being negotiated for the three and Warner hopes to do so next week. Warner has said they are not looking for someone that looks like Superman or even can act well; they're looking for someone to sign a three-picture deal.

Dean Devlin (EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS) is planning to produce a movie based on the MECH WARRIOR video games. Paramount is currently negotiating with Wiz Kids to obtain the rights for Devlin's Electric Entertainment. "Whether I write the script or help with the script or direct, I'm crazy about the material, and this is a real passion project for me," Devlin said. Devlin also said that he plans to make a $150 million movie for $100 million. "The type of CG we'd use for this movie, in which warriors battle in giant mechanized suits of armor, would be much easier to create than spiders," he added.
Personally I've been waiting for a MEchwarrior movie for the longest time (since about 3-4 days after I bought Mechwarrior 2 back in 1995). It's just unfortunate it has to be coming from the guy who gave us Eight Legged Freaks. Though maybe it will be like Daredevil and he really does have a passion for the property and will try to make the best movie possible. Though it's unlikely. _________________ "Veni. Vedi. you go squish now. see for me, mechwarrior offered a happy medium for me and mechs. It was pure fantasy, but they actually could be real in the future. Not a single japanese mech (of the more modernesque series, is in from the past 10-20 years) is acutally plausibly possibly ever going to be made. To fancy with to little function. _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

Well, not exactly true. It is feasible to make something similar to the Guntank from MSG, only smaller, and without the head (honestly, the head is only there to make them look cool.) And it might be possible to make something similar to those found in Robotech. Might. In the future.
But the Mechs in Mechwarrior doo look cool. I was hooked on Mech Warrior 2 for a quiet a long time. But I don't know how I feel about making a movie about it. _________________ anime is teh s uck
