Time to tally up the dead... dang, these celebrities keep dropping like flies...
Bob Keeshan, who played the lovable childern's TV show host Captain Kangaroo from 1955 to 1984. Most of you in here are too young to remember the Captain, and I only have memories of an updated version of the show shown on PBS (not the original CBS show), but this guy is a legend in Children's Programming, entertaining generation after generation of children for nearly 30+ years.
Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Rogers, may they rest in peace _________________ "The principles you live by create the world you live in; if you change the principles you live by, you will change your world." -Blaine Lee

I remember, it was one of the best ways to pass the time until the school bus came. And I still use the term "Town Clown" to refer to the local marshals.
You guys had Mr. Rogers, I had the Captain. The Saban guy, as nice as he was, just wasn't the same. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

Yeah, it was quite a few years ago, maybe while CK was still running on CBS.
:edit: I was wrong. IMDB lists him as passing away in 1987, but I think his health forced him to retire before the show's cancellation.
And one of the funniest routines I ever saw was an SNL (or was it SCTV) skit with the Captain (not really) explaining how his show was cancelled as a "StoryTime" segment... _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Former 'Tonight' host Jack Paar dies at 85
Late-night pioneer starred on NBC show from 1957-62
The Associated Press
Updated: 2:53 p.m. ET Jan. 27, 2004 (NEW YORK) - Jack Paar, who held the nation’s rapt attention as he pioneered late-night talk on “The Tonight Show,” then told his viewers farewell when still in his prime, died Tuesday. He was 85.
Paar died at his Greenwich, Conn., home as a result of a long illness, said Stephen Wells, Paar’s son-in-law. Paar’s wife of more than 60 years, Miriam, and daughter, Randy, were by his side, Wells said.
“We’re in a bit of a fog,” he said. “There were a lot of people who knew Jack and loved him.”
Since the mid-1960s, Paar had kept mostly out of the public eye, engaging in business ventures and indulging his passion for travel.
But Paar’s years on NBC enlivened an otherwise “painfully predictable” TV landscape, wrote The New York Times’ Jack Gould in 1962. “Mr. Paar almost alone has managed to preserve the possibility of surprise.”
Johnny Carson took over “The Tonight Show” in 1962. Paar had a prime-time talk show for three more seasons, then retired from television in 1965. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

Rodney Dangerfield, the goggle-eyed comedian who often lamented that he couldn't get no respect, died on Tuesday in Los Angeles; he was 82. Dangerfield passed away at UCLA Medical Center, where he had undergone heart valve replacement surgery on Aug. 25. He suffered a stroke post-surgery and developed infectious and abdominal complications; he also slipped into a coma which, according to his wife Joan, he had emerged from the past week. Health complications had also attended Dangerfield during the past few years, including double bypass surgery in 2000, a mild heart attack in 2001, and brain surgery this past spring. A native of Long Island, Dangerfield (born Jacob Cohen) first hit the comedy circuit, most notably in the Catskills, in the 40s under the name Jack Roy. After becoming a businessman in the 50s, he returned to stand-up in the 60s under the name Rodney Dangerfield, and ultimately opened his own comedy nightclub in 1969, one of the first in the country. With his famous white shirt-red tie combination (now on display in the Smithsonian), Dangerfield coined the catchphrase "I can't get no respect," which would become part of the American cultural lexicon. In the 70s he was almost everywhere, in movies (he debuted in 1971's The Projectionist), television (both series and commercials) and of course the comedy stage. However, it wasn't until the 80s that he had his biggest film hits, a trio of comedies – Caddyshack, Easy Money, and Back to School – that mined his ribald, gregarious persona for laughs. Dangerfield is also credited with discovering a huge number of modern comedians, including Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Carrey, Roseanne, Robert Townsend, and Tim Allen, many of whom made recent visits to his bedside. Dangerfield is survived by his wife Joan, thirty years his junior, and two children from a previous marriage

BEDFORD, New York (AP) -- Christopher Reeve, the star of the "Superman" movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, died Sunday of heart failure, his publicist said. He was 52.
Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his New York home, his publicist, Wesley Combs, told The Associated Press by phone from Washington, D.C., on Sunday night.
Reeve was being treated at Northern Westchester Hospital for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.
"On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank Northern Westchester Hospital for the excellent care they provided to my husband," Dana Reeve, Christopher's wife, said in a statement. "I also want to thank his personal staff of nurses and aides, as well as the millions of fans from around the world who have supported and loved my husband over the years." _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. I think Chris was the third; first was Janet Leigh (Psycho), then Rodney was 2nd. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

Didn't remember about Janet Leigh. So the masses of celebrities can calm down and breath a sigh of relief that they won't be next.
